RIP Pearl!! I grew up playing ball in Brooklyn in those years. At the 36:50 mark, "Paul Brown had him for 4 years...". I believe that's incorrect. I recall Pearl transferred from Norman Thomas HS after 1 year, and then played 3 years at B&G HS in Brooklyn. Please let me know if I'm wrong.
Thanks for posting, what a great memory. Some fun facts from this game: 1- Illinois' entire starting 5 all played over 50 minutes in this game. All five are still to this day in the school's top 10 for minutes played in a game. 2- Just a few days after this 4OT affair, Illinois' next game would be a 2OT win at Iowa. And still with no bench. 3- Illinois center George Montgomery is the father of current NBA player JaVale McGee.
Thanks for the upload, as always. Really nice shallow cross from Petrino at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PIEWs20pAmY.htmlsi=cTm9Zx3DTp7L7_JB&t=2329
I remember watching this game like it was yesterday! I was in 7th grade at the time and as an ND fan growing up watching FSU lose was something I cherished greatly! This game provided great banter with some classmates the next day at school. Living in PA, Penn State losing to Northwestern in Evanston only adds to why this weekend of college football resonates nearly 30 years later.
I thought is was funny they were talking on the side line about the orange shoes a new company let them have to wear. And guess what that new shoe company was NIKE.
Bobby humphrey and the running game of bama went crazy on this day. I think bama didnt throw but like 6 passes in this game.Tennessee kinda hit a bump in the road from 86-88
Thanks for posting. What an incredible season. There will never be another like it. I feel bad for younger Buckeye fans that didn't get to experience 2002 as it unfolded. You missed out.
Hilariously dumb comment at the end after the fans stupidly rushed the field with 26 seconds left. "It cost them an opportunity, I mean, they probably wouldn't have scored anyway, or they probably would've. . .knowing coach Osborne, probably would not have forced the ball in to the end zone. . .but still! In a big game, if they'd had the chance, and they were behind, it would have made a lot of difference." If Nebraska was LOSING this game, why would the fans rush the field on a play that didn't result in a go-ahead touchdown? They were ready to storm the field because Nebraska was leading, and this interception clinched the game. Pointless and stupid comment 😄 Also very disappointing to see our fans storm the field like that even though the clock wasn't at zeroes. Too much Sooner magic for years to that point to storm the field before that clock expires.
This Ohio St defense was nails. Their offense had a bunch of playmakers but they got overshadowed by this elite defense. How many chances did Michigan have in this game to score and once they crossed mid field Ohio St’s d said nope not going to happen. Easily one of the best defenses of the past 25 years of any of the national championship teams
Here’s hoping more 1999-2007 sec games down the pipe. These were great years for the sec. 1999 and 2007 were exciting seasons. The 2001 season was wild as well. Lots of games were moved from 9/11 to the end of the season , and they were like playoff games. Not many full games from the 1999 season on here. Thanks for posting.
I was one week from graduating from Paris island…thank god I was there and not watching the Tide. Mike Dubose was such a horrible coach. After he got fired from Alabama he was hired at my old high school as head coach. Never won a game in his only season.
