The sad thing is that when we were born, we were told from birth what bronze age god book we believed in and who we were. now the younger generation on a whole of the last 25 years arent as worried about unionism nationalism loyalism republicanism. They have equal rights and great opportunities. And not being stuck to one small area like we were, they see other religions and countries and on social media can talk to people all over the world live. we only knew what our immediate circumstances were. bronze-age books like the bible whether catholic as i was or protestant, has to constantly be reinterpreted to fit science findings. 100 years ago catholics and protestants trusted the bible's description of the world having 4 corners and was 6000 years old and was created in 6 earth days. physics medicines historical fact is not in the bible or the quran or any sky-god text. all pre-science era stuff. religion causes more divisions and conflicts, but going forward young people dont take that to their children. science saves lives. warns of hurricanes, earthquakes, prayers dont.peace and love is all we should have for eachother whatever you look like or where your from.

I don't believe that man when he says he is in prison based solely on his statement admitting the crime. When it comes to statements of any kind in the British legal system, they are worthless. You must find evidence to prove or disprove a statement - that means the prosecution. Otherwise it is worthless.

A sad event for Ireland, along with Newtownbutler, the Boyne and Aughrim. My upmost support to my Irish Catholic brethren from Spain, maybe one day Ulster will wake up and join the rest of Ireland, united under the same flag and Catholic faith, with or without a king. Sadly, Ulster was essentially robbed from the Irish and settled with convenient protestant settlers from its sister island, converted into a British protestant colony.

55:28 "The Jacobites were finished when they failed to take Derry." I'm sorry but this is just plain false. After this failed siege, the Jacobites fought at the Boyne, and after the Boyne, they fought at Aughrim, two years after the siege of Derry, so no, the Jacobite cause in Ireland didn't immediately come crashing down after Derry, nor after the Boyne.

You should have used its original name of Derry as it didn't needed to be updated for the illegal ruling class that has dominated Ireland for the past 600 years. A terrorist ruling class I once supported as a British soldier who spent 2 years in Lurgan from August 1973 to August 1975 where I came to understand we had no right to be there as an occupying force, I soon got out of the British Army and came to hate such evil imperialism.

I'm happy to see that the paramilitaries exist in better conditions than in the 80's, they look like political prisoners again in 1990. Wearing their own clothes, eating well. To think that most of those men would serve 8 more years of internment before Good Friday saw them back into their communities for good. Christ almighty, I've been deep diving into Northern Ireland history all day long. I have scotch-irish and cherokee ancestry. I feel a profound kinship with the Irish Nationalists and hope to visit Belfast and Derry/Londonderry before I venture below the horizon.

I wonder why Raymond McCartney didn't have the stones to die during the 1981 Hunger Strike like Bobby Sands and the other one's did!!
@peterbolton6193
@peterbolton6193 27 дней назад
I will tell you why. Because he was on a different hunger strike that took place earlier in 1981 that was ended by the then-OC of the striking prisoners, Brendan Hughes, before anyone died. This was for two reasons. First, because the weakest of the hunger strikers, Sean McKenna, was close to death and Hughes had promised McKenna that he wouldn't let him die. Second and more importantly, the British government had appeared to concede their demands but had actually double-crossed them. When the document laying out the terms arrived, it was vague and open to interpretation. That is the reason why Bobby Sands launched a second hunger strike later in 1981, which led to his and nine other republican prisoners' deaths. None of the people on the first strike were on the second, probably because it was deemed that they had already sacrificed enough and would not have been in good enough health to participate in a second fast so soon after their participation in the first.

Is it the case that republican men were actually in the same h-shaped building as this loyalist men, just yards from one another ? It is not clear but that seems to be the case, from P Taylor's remarks. If so, why was it this way ? Surely common sense would keep the two sides far apart
@peterbolton6193
@peterbolton6193 27 дней назад
No, the prisoners were segregated according to paramilitary affiliation. Even different kinds of republican paramilitaries had their own wings, i.e. IRA prisoners had their wings, INLA separate wings. Ditto for loyalist paramilitaries: UVF prisoners were on different wings to UDA/UFF prisoners. Loyalist and republican prisoners might at times have been housed in the same H block, but not on the same wings.
@johngraham1785
@johngraham1785 26 дней назад
@@peterbolton6193 actually, my question was whether the IRA and UVF were ever in the same H shaped building, and you say possibly yes. I only asked because with only a short corridor between the two wings, the potential for shouting abuse, causing problems must surely have been greater with one's mortal enemies only yards away. I'm surprised the prison authority chose it that way.
@peterbolton6193
@peterbolton6193 26 дней назад
@johngraham1785 I believe what you are describing did sometimes happen. It was arguably one of the reasons for LVF leader Billy Wright's assassination by the INLA as the LVF was housed in the same H block as INLA prisoners (see here: magill.ie/politics/murder-king-rat-billy-wright). Some believe it was deliberate, but that's another story. But the tensions you describe were not as big an issue as you might think. There are reports that republican and loyalist prisoners got on well much of the time. I have even heard that if one side needed a bag of sugar or butter or whatever and the other side got their food rations earlier then they would throw over what they needed and then the other side would repay the favor next time. That sort of thing. Billy McKee opened up dialogue with the leadership of the loyalist prisoners when he was in Long Kesh. There was even the occasional friendship across the divide, such as UVF prisoners Robert Bates befriending IRA OC Brendan Hughes and even thwarting an assassination attempt against him by other loyalist prisoners.
@peterbolton6193
@peterbolton6193 26 дней назад
@johngraham1785 That did sometimes happen. For example, in the 90s LVF and INLA prisoners were both housed in H6.

So when they start renaming everything and everywhere as the replacement continues, just know it was started by the Irish.
