The sad thing is that when we were born, we were told from birth what bronze age god book we believed in and who we were. now the younger generation on a whole of the last 25 years arent as worried about unionism nationalism loyalism republicanism. They have equal rights and great opportunities. And not being stuck to one small area like we were, they see other religions and countries and on social media can talk to people all over the world live. we only knew what our immediate circumstances were. bronze-age books like the bible whether catholic as i was or protestant, has to constantly be reinterpreted to fit science findings. 100 years ago catholics and protestants trusted the bible's description of the world having 4 corners and was 6000 years old and was created in 6 earth days. physics medicines historical fact is not in the bible or the quran or any sky-god text. all pre-science era stuff. religion causes more divisions and conflicts, but going forward young people dont take that to their children. science saves lives. warns of hurricanes, earthquakes, prayers dont.peace and love is all we should have for eachother whatever you look like or where your from.
I don't believe that man when he says he is in prison based solely on his statement admitting the crime. When it comes to statements of any kind in the British legal system, they are worthless. You must find evidence to prove or disprove a statement - that means the prosecution. Otherwise it is worthless.
The conflict that changed world history, made Britain the great country we are and spread our values to the world. All because of Walker's little white lie...
Driving around ,,4/5 drunk "men" kidnapping any Catholic and tortured for hours getting cut piece by piece.thats the LEGENDS OF LOYALISTS. ALL LOYALISTS WERE RATS AS THEY SEEN THEMSELVES THE ARMY,FRU ,AND THE POLICE WERE ONE AND THE SAME. MANY WERE IN LOYALISTS PARAMILITARIES..COWARDS BY NATURE.
I’ll never understand attitude of loyalists. I mean they are no less Irish than Republicans or Catholics they have all the right to be apart of a free and fair and equal Ireland 🇮🇪 yet they are subservient to England and have freely given up their right and chance for something better
I’m Welsh and lived in Ireland and was asked if we had the orange order etc, England don’t largely neither do wales, no one cares over here about shit like that mental
Shaped Europe is that the same UK Ireland and the UK who are now taxed to the hilt forced locked downs forced vaccines who are now under the thumb of a Corrupt Government owned by elite Bankers even if James had of won things would still ended up the same under the rule of corrupt Gangsters .
I wonder would Mary poo give up her Donuts for a week? And What has importing Blacks & Muslims in 2024, got to do with Ireland's Struggle? ''NOTHING''!
A sad event for Ireland, along with Newtownbutler, the Boyne and Aughrim. My upmost support to my Irish Catholic brethren from Spain, maybe one day Ulster will wake up and join the rest of Ireland, united under the same flag and Catholic faith, with or without a king. Sadly, Ulster was essentially robbed from the Irish and settled with convenient protestant settlers from its sister island, converted into a British protestant colony.
55:28 "The Jacobites were finished when they failed to take Derry." I'm sorry but this is just plain false. After this failed siege, the Jacobites fought at the Boyne, and after the Boyne, they fought at Aughrim, two years after the siege of Derry, so no, the Jacobite cause in Ireland didn't immediately come crashing down after Derry, nor after the Boyne.
You should have used its original name of Derry as it didn't needed to be updated for the illegal ruling class that has dominated Ireland for the past 600 years. A terrorist ruling class I once supported as a British soldier who spent 2 years in Lurgan from August 1973 to August 1975 where I came to understand we had no right to be there as an occupying force, I soon got out of the British Army and came to hate such evil imperialism.
I'm happy to see that the paramilitaries exist in better conditions than in the 80's, they look like political prisoners again in 1990. Wearing their own clothes, eating well. To think that most of those men would serve 8 more years of internment before Good Friday saw them back into their communities for good. Christ almighty, I've been deep diving into Northern Ireland history all day long. I have scotch-irish and cherokee ancestry. I feel a profound kinship with the Irish Nationalists and hope to visit Belfast and Derry/Londonderry before I venture below the horizon.
Funny how the interviewer asked the Unionist guy why he didn't join the RUC to Fight the IRA terrorists . Didn't he realise he was talking to a terrorist 🤔 oh no wait only the IRA ware terrorist 🙄 if you murder with a union jack tattoo your not a terrorist 😂😢 sad so many on both sides died..RIP
I will tell you why. Because he was on a different hunger strike that took place earlier in 1981 that was ended by the then-OC of the striking prisoners, Brendan Hughes, before anyone died. This was for two reasons. First, because the weakest of the hunger strikers, Sean McKenna, was close to death and Hughes had promised McKenna that he wouldn't let him die. Second and more importantly, the British government had appeared to concede their demands but had actually double-crossed them. When the document laying out the terms arrived, it was vague and open to interpretation. That is the reason why Bobby Sands launched a second hunger strike later in 1981, which led to his and nine other republican prisoners' deaths. None of the people on the first strike were on the second, probably because it was deemed that they had already sacrificed enough and would not have been in good enough health to participate in a second fast so soon after their participation in the first.
My dad's in this. I remember finding out what he had done. No matter what side your from they're all terrioists who kill innocent people from both sides. They shouldn't have been released. Murder is murder no matter what way you look at it.
That’s twice now that King’s have went up against the Ulster Scots and lost. It is not a good idea to fight the most militaristic element of your own population.
We now know today that the Loyalists were formed to put fear into the innocent Irish Catholic People, and later on agents for the Security forces to mix it up with Republican targets. The British Security Services led the whole dirty war with Lies and fear, manipulation, and media control. A Shocking History.
Is it the case that republican men were actually in the same h-shaped building as this loyalist men, just yards from one another ? It is not clear but that seems to be the case, from P Taylor's remarks. If so, why was it this way ? Surely common sense would keep the two sides far apart
No, the prisoners were segregated according to paramilitary affiliation. Even different kinds of republican paramilitaries had their own wings, i.e. IRA prisoners had their wings, INLA separate wings. Ditto for loyalist paramilitaries: UVF prisoners were on different wings to UDA/UFF prisoners. Loyalist and republican prisoners might at times have been housed in the same H block, but not on the same wings.
@@peterbolton6193 actually, my question was whether the IRA and UVF were ever in the same H shaped building, and you say possibly yes. I only asked because with only a short corridor between the two wings, the potential for shouting abuse, causing problems must surely have been greater with one's mortal enemies only yards away. I'm surprised the prison authority chose it that way.
@johngraham1785 I believe what you are describing did sometimes happen. It was arguably one of the reasons for LVF leader Billy Wright's assassination by the INLA as the LVF was housed in the same H block as INLA prisoners (see here: magill.ie/politics/murder-king-rat-billy-wright). Some believe it was deliberate, but that's another story. But the tensions you describe were not as big an issue as you might think. There are reports that republican and loyalist prisoners got on well much of the time. I have even heard that if one side needed a bag of sugar or butter or whatever and the other side got their food rations earlier then they would throw over what they needed and then the other side would repay the favor next time. That sort of thing. Billy McKee opened up dialogue with the leadership of the loyalist prisoners when he was in Long Kesh. There was even the occasional friendship across the divide, such as UVF prisoners Robert Bates befriending IRA OC Brendan Hughes and even thwarting an assassination attempt against him by other loyalist prisoners.
@@peterbolton6193 that would appear to be the case looking at the documentary. I'm just amazed that this co accommodation was considered appropriate or prudent in such a highly charged prison
My 8th great grandfather Abraham Blair took part in the siege and was later granted tax exempt status by King William for his efforts. He left for America in 1718 where he founded Londonderry, New Hampshire.
@@zenjen1295 I didn’t say there was specifically, if you can read my comment properly. But there are 8 places called Londonderry in the whole world. The name must have come from somewhere.
@@themaskedman221 Look, it’s the historical name for the place. Same as Kingstown for Dun Laoghaire and Queenstown for Cork. My grandmother remembers when it was called Kingstown. In my country Canada they are starting to rename places, including my town, and I can see the insidious agenda behind it. I’m not a fan of renaming places. So when they start renaming everything and everywhere as the replacement continues, just know it was started by the Irish. Same with the tearing down and blowing up statues, and not even replacing them with anything decent. That started there too. I personally would have much rather seen a nice statue of them all in front of the GPO instead of the stupid “Needle.”
England's England& Ireland 's Ireland. Scotland 's SNP. F**k Off England we've had enough of giving you'd oil, electricity,,etc, etc, etc,,, Now Scotland is For Us,, the Scots. G.T.F. b4 we start a S.R.A.
I remember getting into the RUC and all the SF men standing telling all their sons to get home. But it was ok for us doing the dirty work and all the Provo SF sons went on to do well at school and universety all teachers now all did well and all us mugs got nowhere
A was at that interment March were Gerry Adams spoke in the city centre on the way down we got hammered with bricks n bottles raining down on us it tells u there was bands from Glasgow was early 90s we got attacked at lower falls they the loyalists came from a school then the republicans chased them off a was hit by bricks n bottles though not my head other parts of my body the band sergeant was shouting keep playing look forward as people in the band broke lines for 2 minutes or so one member a drummer was hit n head with a stone was bleeding was a great parade though was glad to get to city centre as before that the bands were rerouted we republicans were not allowed in city centre in Belfast and Glasgow so it was still a great parade as before we never got passed the lower falls the years before 🇮🇪32
