I heard this band in London some forty-odd years ago. Bought their cassette tape, but after decades of abuse, it's sadly gone. Could you upload the rest of the album?
I just watched the whole series, at least what is up on YT. I have followed the Watersons, Martin Carthy , Ewn MacCall, Peggy Seeger (Pete & Mike, too) for my entire adult life. I have collected trditional songs since I was 3. No kidding. At 84 I am still teaching many of them when I can get a group. Much harder since Covid. I love the wonderful stories, which allow us a window into history. This series is precious, please don't ever take it down. Frankie armstrong's Tam Lin is fabulous. Ewan once said that the ballads require as much from the audience as from the singer. He akined it to doing shakespeare. Oakland CA
I haven't heard this song in ages This song I have no doubt filled many nightclubs worldwide 💜 👏 It still sounds as amazing and as good in June 2024, as it did when it was first released back in '93 March 1993
He once sent me an email and his first solo album. 😢 The best in every way. It was a true high point of my life. Thank you Cathal and wherever you may be now keep their bloody feet to the fire.
Greatest vocalist and lyricist in rock n roll history period full stop. And now dead. Dammit dammit dammit. He wouldn't have wanted to live to see what a sorry pass we've come to is literally the only positive spin I can put on it.
“Send you up the river like you’re looking for Kurtz..” Direct reference to Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella ‘Heart Of Darkness’ upon which the 1979 movie ‘Apocalypse Now’ was based. The character of Colonel Walter R Kurtz in ‘Apocalypse Now’ was played by Marlon Brando and was based on the ivory trader character Kurtz in ‘Heart Of Darkness’. The famous words “The horror, the horror.” also came from Kurtz in ‘Heart of Darkness’.
Got a straight man crush on Jez Williams he’s an underrated musician/bassist and he just looks so Manchester (before it became African/Afghan/Hindu/Muslim obviously)
Martin Carthy never sold out on his art and for that should be much commended. He was also never afraid to air his opinion on any subject. He would never have made it as a politician! Love all three of 'em.
Been searching for this song for decades. First heard it mid 90s on a random mix tape that had no track list and only had the "ciao ceaucescu bald headed male whore" part stuck in my young brain.
