My mother said when there was a program about Ellis Island, my father left the room. She found him teary eyed remembering entering the great hall holding his younger sister's hand, overwhelmed by the huge room teeming with immigrants.
My father and several of his siblings came through Ellis Island as did my my 7 months pregnant maternal grand grandmother and my mother's older siblings. In 1904 a local newspaper noted my mother being the first Greek baby born in Batavia New York. Her father's candy shop in Erie PA is still in business. In Beaufort SC at the chocolate shop, there are two pics of the Pulakos candy school in Erie
I had relatives that I never met go through Ellis Island. My mother found them in their records when she was doing her genealogy. She actually submitted our family photo to them.
