Hi guys! I wanted to thank you very much for this video! Thanks to you I had money in euro to pay for all the things that were cash only (took it in Vlore like you). I just came back from Albania but shortened the holiday from 2 weeks to 10 days because it was the worst destination I have ever been to. Apart from Sarande which has some potential as a seaside resort, it is not to be recommended. They have a huge problem with bacteria E. Coli contamination due to sewage going directly to the sea water. My friends suffered. Take a look for example at the Lungomare google reviews. There is garbage and terrible smell absolutely everywhere at the beaches and in the towns. Even the picturesque Ottoman villages are full of garbage and stray dogs. Roads are full of dead animals rotting in heat (from cats and dogs to donkeys and cows!). Albanians drive like madmen and there is no code of the route. The more expensive car has priority. I could go on like this forever frankly. Of course there is literally no food for vegetarians (I lost 2kg). And everything is much more expensive than Greece or Croatia, yet there is no comparison about the level of service and quality of goods. I have never been so happy to come back from my holidays. You guys were very lucky not to get gastro, contamination, driven over or simply robbed.
Durres is ancient Albanian city, inhabited since ancient times by early Albanians, Illyrians, more precisely the Taulanti tribe (Illyrian) lived in Durres and its surrounding areas. The Taulantii are among the oldest attested Illyrian peoples, who established a powerful kingdom in southern Illyria. They are among the peoples who most marked Illyrian history, and thus found their place in the numerous works of historians in classical antiquity. The name is not Greek, but Illyrian or Albanian, coming from the Proto- Albanian language: the word Dyrrah (which means door 🚪 or port, in modern standard Albanian language the door is called derë/ dera. First it used to be called Epidamnos-Dyrrhachion, then in later Dyrrahium in latin until now: Durrës. It’s purely Albanian and nothing Greek. 👍🏼
You guys are very nice and I love your video. Enjoy your trip to Albania. I am thinking of visiting Vlore soon. Any advice for a long term apartment rental.
Please come for the fun and leave history to historians. Greece has stolen a lot from us and it is not going to stop. Wright now want to steal city of Himare by supporting a terrorist as a mayor who is pro greek and anti Albanian. You have offended everyone by saying that Durrës comes from greece.
Actually you can really be informed about history, culture and geography of the Castle in the Museum you didn't enter. Also you can learn about the legend of the Castle. Those underground tunels you said were used to go down to the river. The wells were to get water from underground. Also about the bombings you said, the Caslte was bombed heavily by Montenegrin forces in the First Balkan War in 1912.
Hi guys. I like everything about your video, including your beautiful eyes, except this- 0:46. I don't understand how people can still believe in Greek fairytale. My dear friend, the city of Epidamn, also known as Dyrrachium, was built by the Pelasgians and Illyrians, who are considered the direct ancestors of the Albanian people. This means that Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and Persians did not exist in their historical form. How can the name "DURRËS" come from Greek language when Greek language itself is believed to have evolved from Albanian language, which is considered the first language spoken by humans?” so i think you should leave history to the professionals, and as a sweet couple you are, you should enjoy your vacation in Albania. Anyway i enjoyed your video.
The city of Epidamn Dyrak was built by the Illyrian tribe of the "Taulantes" = ( "The swallow"-english ) in the XIII-XI centuries BC. The first inhabitants of Dyrrah, before the Illyrians, called protoilers, Pelazges, built the first prehistoric settlements in the surroundings of this city. In the conditions of a Mediterranean climate, the most suitable area for habitation was that of the Erzen River (Ululeus) and the Western Lowlands around it. On the coast of Durrës Bay, the first center or harbor named Dyrrah was established. According to ancient authors, this city was founded by two kings of Illyrian origin named Dyrah and Epidamn.King Epidamn built the fortified part of the city in the southeast of Durrës Mountain, while his grandson Dyrrak built the Port that has been named after him for many, many centuries. From these two names, the name Dyrrah-Durrësi survived to our days, for its role as a harbor-port. The real name of the local king Dyrrah was also identified with the peninsular configuration of the relief, expressing the existence of two slopes (two beats), which are visible when entering the Gulf of Durrës.The city developed more rapidly to enable it to replace the role of Troy, becoming the most convenient connecting point between Pelegian Europe and Hesperia populated by Tusca and Dardana. In the 10th-8th centuries BC, the Taulante Federation was created: States with Dyrrah as its capital. In the 7th-3rd centuries AD, the Taulan Federation transformed Taulania into the main Illyrian state of the Western Pan-Adriatic Lowlands, making Dyrrah the capital, the most comprehensively developed "Door and Window" city in Europe. In the 2nd century BC to the 10th century AD, Western Europe was known as Durrës, which was an independent state within the Roman-Byzantine Empire. Please be well informed about the ancient history of our indigenous people in the Balkans. I hope you had a good time in our country. You're welcome!
I like your promotion about the video, but I don't like that you're saying that durres are found by Greeks that's not good at all. That's albanian 💯 Greeks. Have nothing to do here.
Without history the place mean nothing and without mistakes we will never learn and grow. I like history everyone tell a different story from different prospective and we believe that we can never know the full truth. But a bite of history is always nice and adds a lot a lot of value to our experience.
Correction to your video do some research before you OFFEND a nation older than God - Durres was not founded by Greece - Dyrrachium is an ancient Illyrian Port of Entry which the Word Dyrrachium is Albanian in fact and not Greek -Dyrra means Door which thats where the 1st legitimate trade began in 7th century BC it was the largest port of entry or door (dyrra)of entry of that time in the entire region hence why Rome attacked and so forth.
well they didnt offend me as an Albanian thats how they read the history they just read the main important thing to read about the illyrian Albanian story part you have to go deep durres was lived firstly by the illyrian tribe of taulanti then the greeks arrived and renamed it
That was a bite of the history my friend and we are here for the fun not for conflict. Tip for you the less you are attached to 2000 years old stories the more you are happy and always remember it is in the past. Learn the history before you make a video for a country and a city. Show respect. You guys are one fucked up lame couple. Totally stupid and brainless. This is Illyrian territory and the city is found by the Illyrians. It had always Illyrian habitats. It has nothing to do with greeks. Half of the current greek land is Albanian land they have Albanian origin. Fake greeks have been manipulated and manufactured history for a long time. Go educate yourself before you make another stupid video.
You should say sea and no ocean cause is not ocean however your video is amazing thank you and welcome to Albania 🇦🇱 anytime. Greetings from an Albanian in Michigan
