this is my guess (once i dont know the specifics about the dress codes of this ball), there was probably a explicit demand to the new way contestants to bring the silver/platinum in their looks, you can notice that some of the chops, including the weirdest ones where the person was chopped right in the beggining, they were using black or did have mainly some color other than silver as dominant in their looks.
