The first call is that the runner made it extremely barely in time before the catcher tagged the runner at the plate towards the runner's L leg. I say that the runner's foot hit the plate about 1/15th of a second before the tag happened when I review it on the replay. There I make the final ruling - RUNNER IS SAFE AT HOME!
The most difficult challenge types are likely the batted balls that land at the foul line or very slightly to the R of the foul line, and if the umpire does not have the right angle to see that ball, it will be hard for the umpire to rule it fair ball or foul ball.
The one about your foot coming behind your knee is incorrect. Your back foot must cross the pitcher's plate. It has nothing to do with crossing your knee. Yes, those two areas are very close in proximity, but the rule emphasizes the rubber, not the knee.
My son-in-law a Veteran of the Day at Yankee stadium, also at another game, caught a homeone ball ~ with his left hand and a glove. He is a righty. Aaron Judge was impressed with the catch.
I think the balk on 2:58 is the “tap the glove with the ball” thing that he does right before the pitch. Maybe the ump missed it on the other pitch? It’s worth that an umpire can be wrong about any call, including a balk.
This is exactly what this balk was. We call it "cracking the egg twice" or "double tapping" (not official terms, but little league educational terms). Once the ball comes out of your glove, it can not go back in again unless the initial removal is during the process of proper disengagement.
Most calls involing a force are made on sound: if the ball hits the glove before the runner makes the base then the runner or batter-runner is out (so long as the fielder's foot is on the base).
I might actually have a shot at this career I got a majority of the place calls correct which is good news for me since I start umpireing school in January
I think the suspension was more retribution for the stuff before the bs started. He is good for baseball and does not deserve to be ramped like he was. Everyone has areas to improve, but not everyone has taken positive steps to be a better person as he has. He just wants to put his best against the best. I don't think he heeds the mlb to do that anymore.
For an Idiot wearing a Webster jersey Who decided to wait till the end of the year during the two largest media markets In the league to become the only fan during the Entire 2020 mlb season to attend a game. The lowest fan attendance at Fenway park all time the lowest attendance during Ny Bos rivalry game all time a Guiness world record that Will Never be broken! Ya that wasn’t worth the 5 hours they held me in the hospital! Meanwhile the football and hat I threw on the field are sitting in some mlb players trophy cabinets agh the irony!
