I vaguely recall reading that after WWII the US compelled all European countries to sign over their cinema or, in other words, that henceforth 70% of all film shown in Europe would be American and Deneuve knows this very well. Her father working with the NAZI is no more difficult to believe than many major US corporations working hand in hand with the NAZI during the War. There are numerous well-researched books on the subject for anyone who cares to know more about it.
The only person crazier than the guy who came up with "Parapluies" is anyone who can sit through the d***ed, boring, painful, criminally irritating thing.
The only film I ever walked on was Repulsion, which I found repulsive. While I catch Parapluies de Cherbourg whenever I get a chance, one of my all time favorite movies.
Catherine gives a new definition of beauty, eclat, and intelligence in acting. A very great actress and lady. She is one of the truly great actresses of the 20th and 21st century Garbo Monroe, Hepburn, Taylor,, but with frehc chic and true class! Vive Deneuve!
@sgtcrab1 and you think, you can compare that? killing an animal for its fur is plain cruel and rotten. people used to do that millions of years ago, because they had no other way to keep themselves warm. today, it's not only unnecessary and terribly old school, but it's disgusting. have you ever seen the way minks and other animals are kept or the way they are killed? rabbits, for example, are thrown into hot water - alive! think about that...

@euphoria30ful : It just proves you don't speak French well. She speaks English in the interview, and she uses typical words native Frenchies would use, like 'relations' instead of 'relationships'. Plus, you can recognize she has a typical French accent. Apart from that, she's great. But she kind of looks fat???? Weird..... I still remember her when she was younger and very pretty. She's aged quite well though.
@euphoria30ful You obviously don't understand French. Hers is perfect. Directors agreed on the fact that Deneuve is the only actress who can speak very fast and be very articulate at the same time, something tha the people she works with do appreciate. Everybody understands her, she's got a clear & beautiful voice and her unique carreer in modern cinema speaks for itself. She's been on top for 50 yrs. Not many actresses have been able to reach such a status, have talent and remain mysterious.
I loved these two together so much. I really miss them. I am watching Jimmy's wedding right now and Matthew and Anna should be there. They may have had their own baby now as well.
What makes Catherine so enjoyable as an actress is her beauty, both in and out making her movies a hell of a lot of fun! I am a voyuer and love to watch a beautiful woman who can act!
well, she's the most beautiful woman on earth, but I hate the fact that she's wearing fur... don't get me wrong, I love her, but sometimes I would like to spank her for that, like in the beginning of Belle de Jour^^
