Please stick with jig. I’m getting snag losing favorite, how do you deal with losing favorite lure?
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 11 часов назад
Don't let it sit on the bottom. one way of using jigs is to use them like spoons. Losing lures is part of it - the best way not to lose lures is not to use them. When you lose lures while fishing with them for the first few times, it is part of what we call LEARNING. It is the cost of learning...as Kelvin would say, it is your tuition fee.

@vsonic86 You should note the bottom depth. You can do this by when the lure hits the water, you count 1,2,3,4 etc till you know (line sack) or feel the lure has hit the bottom. Once you know the magic number, repeat and count but keep it below the number you know so that it will not hit the bottom or more to be sure it never gets close to the bottom. I use this method for years and nothing works better. Also, different jig/lures weights and designs will fall at different rates obviously so the more you use specific favorite ones you will know how they act and behave. I do shore jigging so if you are more out in the open waters you also need to consider currents. Hope that helps you.

Could i use thread instead ?. Very usefull , furled leaders are expensive here in the UK about £7- £8 each . Thanks .
@TheFishingKit
@TheFishingKit 16 часов назад
mono for me is easier - just pick out the leader size you want...like take for example, 4lb, then when you make this leader, you double and quadruple the line in the furling process, so you have 4x4 strands, then 4x2 then you loop in your 4lb test at the end...you get a perfect taper! cheap as chips too! but yes, you can also use thread.

How not to break a rod - knowing immediately if its a snag or hookup haha. The guy i know once had a snag. And while trying to jerk the rod, after 10 seconds, the reel started to scream. Long story short, 20kg amberjack didnt even realize he was hooked. And they can go up to 50kg. No he didnt catch it, just played with him 5-6 minutes, it was super light gear for such monster fish

100% on rods rubbing or micro fractures 👍. I was kinda hoping for accidental hookups we sometimes hook large stingrays while on 1-4kg rods. Usally we can get them to the boat but lifting them from the bottom, I all ways get a little nervous. I try to keep the rod angle to the line more straighter and use only a little rod lifting. This puts more presssure on the reel and uses the drag to pull the fish in. My solution on a long road trip is to wrap the rods in a sheet/ blanket. You wrap the rod do a full roll then add the next rod and do a full roll, keep going till your out of rods or need a new sheet/ blanket. Once wrapped you can use string to tie the bundle. This keeps them all seperate from each other so vibration and rubbing on each other is mitigated.

I have this running joke when I take inexperienced friends fishing with me on the boat. When they arent catching any fish and start getting restless, I sometimes offer to switch rods...and lo and behold, I still keep catching fish and they still don't. Moral of the story: You can have the best gear, but if you dont know how to use it; you've just wasted money... That being said, the more you do understand and know how to fish, the more specialised your tastes and needs invariably get. Do I NEED an expensive Daiwa Kohga Air rod with a Saltiga IC reel to fish with sliders? No! But do I like the overall tightness and effectiveness of this setup for this specific technique? Yes ! So did I spend money for nothing? Most probably, No !

@TheFishingKit 3 дня назад
Cheap doesn't mean to say its useless, as i mentioned in the video - the consistency in quality of products for cheaper gear is hit and miss, if you get a good one they can function as well as the expensive ones - if you get a bad batch...bad luck. Consistency in quality is high in more expensive gear, less risk in reliability issues.

My view on this is kind of different because my experiences have been different from other people - for me, the more you learn and acquire skills, the more you become specific in your fishing and see these things as tools - much like a chef and his knives, you develop preferences and this shapes your buying habits - end of the day, an expensive rod and reel in the hands of someone who just started fishing is not going to miraculously catch a marlin for him in a swimming pool.

Mate, i loved and agree with your perspective. To answer your question, Expensive gear doesn't make you a better angler but you would appreciate it if you are. From my personal experience cheaper gear can make you a better angler since you learn how to land what ever the sea hummers you, with considering the weakness of your gear and that takes you to different ways of fighting. May lose some time but definitely may lose with high end gear too. Appreciate very much your channel mate👍🎣💪 Thank you♥️

You make a amazing points, its about target species and gear accordingly. I don't have a lot of expensive gear but my expensive gear i have is exactly as you pointed out for bigger hard pulling fish. I fish with sienna's 4000, they are a fantastic cheap reel that handles heaps of fish but are 320g for the reel alone. Paired with 10 and 15lb line and a cheap glass fiber rod they catch 90% of what i fish for from flathead, whiting, and snapper. I have some more expensive setups like a legalis lt 2500 and it has more drag than a 4000 and is 250g total combo weight. Its a much nicer setup for soft plastics and casting all day but also more expensive, from $100 to $200 price difference. My heavy setups for tuna/ kingfish/ shark are $300-500. These setups i use are fairly budget friendly considering what you can spend on fishing gear.
