I've learned I'm related to the Oxendine and Jacobs.My Daddy's Mother's Mother was Henrietta Jacobs- Robinson. My Daddy's great-grandmother was Sarah Oxendine-Jacobs. I'm really trying to find out more about them. I did some research and learn that they're in Lumberton, N.C., and goes all the way back to Oklahoma. When do you all have family reunions?

My paternal Grandmother was Ethel Shavers. Her Father was Andrew Jackson Shavers, Jr. His Father was Andrew "Andy" Jackson Chavis. His Father Willis Chavis (1802-1892) His Father William Chavis (1770-1857)
I relate to that statement about the family being one thing in South Carolina and moving to North Carolina and becoming Lumbee. It seems like that when you follow the paper trail. But when he said, “they knew there was a settlement there and they knew they had relatives there and they didn’t have to be black or white there”. That helped me understand why my family left SC to come to NC.
I am currently researching my ancestry. I have done an ancestry DNA test and am waiting for it to come back. However, in my research, Ishmael Chavis is listed as my 4th great grandfather on my ancestry tree.
Was watching this to learn a little about the history of the now Carolina area tribes as I'm part Cherokee in Alabama. Enjoyed learning the Chavis tie to my near local Poarch Creek Tribe. Also, as a farmer having worked with SC Crop Improvement to grow Cheraw soybeans in SE Alabama, so nice to hear a little history on the name, settlement, & tribe. The name I've traced back, with little research, is Perry.
I have an aunt who was a Locklear. Her husband is my dad's brother and he was a Floyd. They are both deceased, but they had three children, Gary, Sandra and Randy. They lived in Olanta, South Carolina when I was young. Not sure where they are now. I knew my aunt was Indian, but I never knew what tribe she belonged to until recently. That being, the Lumbee. I believe my aunts family came from North Carolina.

Im confused where christian is in the tree, i have nancy but nancy doesnt have a mom named christian? I know at the end you say shes not the mom, an that another mom abused her... But whats her name?
