Joan's encouragement at the end is so sweet! Almost as if she's passing the torch of destiny to him. ❤️Chris went from regular kid to icon now, just from people recognizing his brilliance (edit) and Chris busting ass in the business and sculpting his material into valuable comedic gems.
Chris Rock recently said that the awkward end to his set was because he switched up the order of jokes, but the band only knew his closing joke, so once he said that line, they would then play the music. He decided to move up his closer because he thought the opening jokes didn't go so well. He knew the closing joke would get the crowd back into it, then he probably had another 2-3 minutes of material before he was done. You can see his reaction to the band, not immediately realizing that they were only playing because they heard what they thought was his final joke.
He said once the reason he froze at 3:10 is because he re-shuffled his set in his head & moved up his closer. The band had been given that joke as his outro cue, so they played him off early. He's clearly thrown. Cool to see where he started.

I remember him talking about this event. He told the band what his last joke would be and they would start the music immediately after and Joan would come to him. He got mixed up and told the joke much sooner than he intended to, hence the short set and the confusion he had at the end.
