There is no way you can keep track of all the cultures and you will inevitably end up in a position where you have to improvise, following the golden rule. There's no way you can satisfy all the cultures and there is no way all cultures can or should be adapted to. The best thing you can do is interview people and try to find an understanding where you reflect on your own culture and theirs. It is simply impossible to adapt to all the cultures there are. I for example do not like the way Madeleine talks; I find it aggressive and demeaning - do you think she would have been willing to change that about herself? I strongly doubt it, it simply just wouldn't have been fair and it would require a more extensive amount of time where you reflect on yourself and the people you give care to. If there's one thing that disturbs me about Madeleine's theory of culture care it's that she makes it look too simple and I find it rather naïve. That's not to say that all of it is bad but I don't find it to be convincing and not always useful, sometimes harmful even.

I argee! I think it´s Important to have her thoughts in mind. We do have to be sensitive about the culture and cultural differences as nurses. But I feel like Leininger puts people into drawers based on their culture. As if every one of the same culture had exactly the same beliefs and as if we could nurse for example every Muslim the same way. As if there was a pattern to follow for each culture. But that´s too simplified. Today in our multicultural world you can’t expect that every one has the same beliefs just because they have the same religion for example. You always have to go into communication and be open minded for your patient´s expectations and wishes. Everybody ist different and unique and it´s not as simple as Leininger makes it seem to be to provide a cultural congruent care. Her thoughts are important though. It is important to consider a patient´s cultural background but you have to keep in mind that it´s a lot more complex.

Good thing you preserved her own words. Today in academia, we have postmodernists that would take her theory and morph it into their socialist agenda.

Sam Seymour I was commenting that so much education needs to be preserved. I'm proud that someone preserved her words. Many are trying to undercut history and re-write it. I'm thankful for whoever posted this so that the nursing profession can remain a true science

why she doesn't actually explain her theory. she only talk about trust and respect and modality of care but fails to explain her theory. what a useless interview. I found her theory to be very abstract, and was hoping this video will help. please make another video to explain your bullshit sunrise model

If you don't understand her theory because you're dumb, it's not her fault
@Morgow1
@Morgow1 2 года назад
@@alguien7100 I find it rather fascinating that you can call somebody dumb yet claim that you support the respect and care of other cultures and viewpoints. The fact of the matter is that not all things about cultures are good; much of cultures contain what can be perceived as very negative and disrespectful aspects of life to others. What Madeleine's theory fails to understand is that not all things about culture is good and respectable toward other cultures. You simply cannot respect all aspects of a culture as some aspects of a culture does not respect other cultures viewpoints. It is therefore rather naïve to set up a model which tells you that you should provide culture care when you have a culture of your own that does not agree with something of another culture. She makes cultures seem too easy to understand. The fact is that cultures are a lot more complex subjective and harder to understand than she makes it out to be. I for example do not like the way Madeleine talks; I find it aggressive and demeaning. Do you believe she would have accepted and agreed to change that about herself in order to adapt to my cultural values if I told her to? No, I don't think so. It wouldn't be fair of me to demand that of her and it wouldn't be fair for me to receive care from her. It would require a longer time of reflection to find an understanding, acceptance or denial of bad aspects of cultures within oneself or someone else.

What is the significance of how old a model is? The Pythagorean theorem is known to have been used since the First Babylonian Empire 1894 BC - c. 1595 BC and is still used today.
