As a Pink Floyd-fan, I did found Andy Jackson's solo records very interesting, and his melodies and arrangements always gives me a surprise when I am listening to his albums. Sometimes I wonder what would had happen if he was invited to make a new record with a established band that has lost their keyboard player (and bass player). It is just the odd time signatures that may "offend" a Pink Floyd traditionalist, if I may joke a little bit. But that is part of the surprises we meet on his records. I am looking forward to hear Andy's new album.
Recently came across this podcast and I am quite enjoying it. You have mentioned better sounding recordings that are higher gen copies. Since yeeshkul went down, I don't know what to look for to know I'm finding the best source.
this is a really beautiful, intimate, respectful interview (kind of a masterclass really) more about Roger than Syd, which is the side of things that is rarely explored
Great Podcast guys. Ron's knowledge of Pink Floyd is hard to surpass, he has brought pleasure to many over the years & the Floyd community owes him a great debt. Happy to call him my friend.
1:23:10 Wuhlheide, not Waldbühne.;-) Yes, it was the worst Roger Waters concert I've seen. The band was unrehearsed (at the beginning of the tour), the first half was in daylight, the lightshow was invisible und not as good as it was later on during the tour (I think Brickman joined later in the tour)
I also agree about Rogers 99 tour, it was my first and definitely my favorite of all the Floyd related shows I've been to, and I recorded it. Getting to hear the AtD material and Dogs specifically was amazing and watching Doyle play with his unique style was incredible.
Yikes. He had classic adult onset schizophrenia and she actually thinks it was bad trips. Mental heath was dreadfully misunderstood back then. My Mom got sick during the same era and was mishandled, but she lived a fulfilling life to 70 because of me. I'm glad Roger had his Mom and sister.
Great that Ron praises the people that recorded all these gigs to great risk; its lead to an absolutely invaluable historical record. Most especially to see, how with things like Dark Side how it evolved. God bless 'em! Actually aren't Floyd regarded the most bootlegged band in history?
I’m excited to watch this! I go way back with Ron when I worked at Hip Cat Records in Wheeling,IL. He would come to chat with shop owner. For those who know, Hip Cat was the hub for PF fans. I learned a lot of PF music, shows etc from him and Jon Rosenberg. So glad you got him on your show
Also great to hear Mr. Rick Barnett get a shout out. I also knew him from Hip Cat. He was responsible for the highest quality live recordings I’ve heard. He even brought his amazing gear to a number of my band Allá’s shows. I’m going to share this episode
Thank you for the interview. This explains quite a but about the "why" without it being asked. Regardless,Thank you Syd for some wonderful music. I wish that you could have "found yourself" before you lost yourself. RIP
she recognises that he was an artist but says he shouldnt have become a musician. Are you hearing what your saying. Music is art. She seems to think him becoming a musician was his downfall. cmon. Syd went through some CRAZY shit and she just writes it all off. he has helped soo many people, including me, through his music. Nonetheless i understand that this is her opinion and she obviously knew way more about him than us but its just such a shame. Shed learn soo much about her brother if she listened to his music.
Great podcast guys. I wonder What happened to their PA system? The live recordings were compromised completely. No clear vocals.Where was the Management? Why didn’t they fix the PA? Their PA sounded fantastic on look of the week in May of 67 I cannot understand why they would not take of that issue🧐 Who owns the Floyd’s material? Where’s the videos of the roundhouse in July of 67? Clearly there is a cameraman filming Syd playing. Games for May? Are there any recordings before September of 67? I also think\wonder there must be videos of Syd staring into crowd and not playing. I wish there was more of early live Floyd.
I completely understand Rosemary's dismissal of her brothers lyrics as 'not serious' but feel it is informed by her mourning the loss of Syd the bright and energetic sibling prior to his drug induced breakdown. Syds lyrics were often playful, but they could also be darkly brilliant and alive with atmosphere. It wasnt just some game he was playing.
Just a quick reference help in Pos and Cons, to have a ride or get a ride can be a slang term for sex in UK. The Arabs with knives, are probably morphing surgeons with scalpels from the car crash in the dream😊 great listen as always. And Kaos in London x 2 were both very well received at the time
Hence the title of the bootleg “Thanks for The Ride” having a different connotation as well! Not sure about there being a car crash in the dream, unless you mean the explosion at the start of the album? I always thought that was a film playing on TV.
For me, the greatest songwriter ... since 1972 when I first heard PF with AHM and Echoes in the music classroom, I was 14 years old ...the next big thing was ObC and then all the old and new stuff from his brilliant work with and without PF ... above the level of Dylan, Lennon/McCartney ... because he treated the really important things in his lyrics, wrote and perform them without scissors in his head. For me the Shakespeare in Rock Music and a great everyday inspiration ...
20 years old, I bought the momentary of reason album the day it came out. Loved it and went on to see Pink Floyd in 1988 in Germany, Maimarktgelände. At the time I already new most of the older material. Started a Pink Floyd tribute band called "Interstellar Overdrive" in 1997. Together we worked out to play most of the songs from "Piper" to "The Wall". We never touched the newer albums for several reasons. People love it and that's what keeps us together 'till today: Echoes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QWInOb5BkdA.html Greetings an thumbs up for the work on your cannel ...
A great intervew. Thanks Rosemary so much. I have loved Syd since I was 18 (now 53) He is still my favourite song writer. His story and art has inspired me always to think outside the box. Also his unfortunate plight has inspired me to be very cautious in ways that he was not,. Your brother is amazing and one of the greatest song writers I have ever heard
I would like to learn more info about him between ‘71 and his visit on abbey road, fat with shaven eyebrows and head and not there mentally… In his last interview in 71’ he talked how was worried about his future and he said that he would like to form a band and generally seemed self conscious
Worth remembering that in 1993 PF released the first anniversary release of TDSOTM (20). Hence the album being played in full and mentioned on posters/ads for TDB EC dates..
