W3ll, the uppers are solid and fairly comfortable. I found the soles to be harder then a 2 year old dog shit. It literally feels like I'm walking on concrete. Gonna give them a try hiking but I'm dubious.
These shoes are GARBAGE. The original Alpine sneaker (2019 - 2022) was far superior in both design and color choice. I bought two pairs and I've already had to be reiumbursed by Merrell for one of these that basically started disentegrating after a single month of wearing them (worn indoors only, no extended activities). The 2nd pair I literaly use only as house shoes, and they're already starting to come apart like the other pair. Ever wonder why Merrell has regular sales that put's these shoes at 50% off? These are listed for $100 but they're maybe a $30 shoe if that. Imagine paying $100 for a pair of sneakers, wearing them for 3 or 4 weeks and looking down one day to see the sole delaminting, the suede completely destroyed and the pull tab ripped off. Merrell should go back to the ORIGINAL alpine sneaker. Color schemes like Moss and Beluga were awesome... and unlike the recraft, they hold up. I have two pairs I purchased in 2020 that - while a little beat up - haven't shows any signs of degradation, delamination or damage that the new "recraft" has. Merrell totally dropped the ball on these and you should avoid buying them.
Such a great video Sandeep, and it was so nice to meet you down in Dorset, even though I wasn't hiking! Loved seeing your purple Dorset outfit being made too. (I'm Sarah's mum by the way) 😍
Merrell's Moab Speed 2 is the latest in hiking footwear, combining the experience from their top-selling Moab boot with cutting-edge advancements inspired by athletic hikers globally. Plus they look pretty sweet!
QUESTIONS: 1) What is the purpose of the D-ring below the laces? 2) What is the purpose of the elastic strap across the tongue? 3) Biggest mystery: WHY is the triangular fabric patch on the heel just above the outsole velcro'd into place, rather than permanently stiched or glued?
The ring allows you to attach and wear gaiters with your shoes. The strap across the tongue is there to tuck your laces into after you lace them to keep them from snagging on sticks and whatnot when trail running.
Merrell have always given me the worst knee pain. I bought the shoes years ago and thought it was a one off..then silly me I bought the boots and same thing.
Would these shoes work whilst sockless? For hikes that crosses rivers and cause the shoes to get wet? Do these shoes dry off fast when wet and as the hike goes on?
I've worn Merrell boots for years but have recently been very disappointed. I've tried 3 different versions of "waterproof" boots in short order (Merrell has generously replaced 2) and none have been waterproof in any sense of the word. This includes Gortex and non-gortex versions. I'm giving up on the Merrell brand.
