Gato joins the example set by John Coltrane, reaching for the stars at the climax of the piece, going beyond the climax, the next level. Coltrane did this using a technique never matched in history. Gato just reaches for the stars. You need to think of Gato coming in after all the others have done their improvisations, and Gato expresses the next level. Gato uses SOUND, not harmonic chord technique to reach or achieve the next higher level. This was the goal of the great John Coltrane, may he rest in peace. However Gato uses the upper harmonics to add the sound that we all hear but never find expressed, the 13th, 15th harmonics, the sounds within the sounds. Sax players can reach these sounds by constantly practicing the upper harmonics of each note.
