12 years is insane. A proportion of us won't even be around in 12 years. Replace his usage of "years" by "months" and it starts to make sense.

The book says to let the organic matter decompose for at least 6 months, not 12 years. It says to stop piling it on in October then use it the next spring. In October start filling in the next heap, starting by moving the less decomposed top section of the old heap onto the new heap to form its base.

I like self sufficiency as a term more than homesteading. It seems like it can more broadly apply to different living situations, and not just living on a large piece of land.

I noticed a circular motion with the cigar-wet stone...is the stone aluminum oxide impregnated... I've also learned to use a whipping stick to further align the burs. scything is a dream, no more loud gas mowers for me

What you eat for the 12 years while you are waiting for fertiliser to be available?

I’ve loved these books since high school. I share much of the ideals. I’m an anarchistic. My path is one that’s different.🐸🍺🔪🔥

Thank you for your video. At 2:50 you said that you plant your salad greens in february. It’s still very dark in february, do you use grow lights at that time of year?

I have an idea why the books tell you to use sulfites: this is probably standard practice in the industry where they brew thousands of gallons and might have to pay millions in legal fees in case of contaminations. Homebrewing is a different animal altogether. If you have a spoiled batch you just chuck it out.

Where did you buy the book? I'm finding a lot of hard to verify whether they're knock offs or originals, reprints or new editions, whatever, etc. Did you find the genuine book, or some compromised incarnation of the original? Hopefully and updated one... not one that is stuck in the 70s or hinged on information that is unreliable in the current times.

Great points 👍. Love seeing the honeybees working on the lavender while you're being interviewed. Hello from the Kentucky mountains USA 👍

"In winter we clear it all off, leaving no place for slugs", "By Christmas this will be covered with chickweed". Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?

8 years to fill a small compost pile? Not using it for 12 years? What the heck are you talking about?

If you wait another 50 years you'll get very nice compost plus its very sustaineble way to make your own soil.
