Hard enduro GNCC edition! Sometimes it's easier to go all the way down the hill once you fall, but that can be scary at a place like Snowshoe! In addition to the suspension thing below you might check out some of Moto Academy's body position videos. Chest mounts can be deceiving but it seems like you're kind of riding behind the bars with your hands rather than diamond grip / head over number plate. When you ride that extra few inches ahead, when the bike goes sideways like this, you have the positioning to wrangle it back instead of going along for the ride. Plus have more angular momentum in the first place so less likely to get kicked sideways.
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. I have been doing better getting forward when braking and turning in, but will also think about that while standing and hitting whoops.
You are one tough SOB that is for sure! LOL We have a Harescramble in a place called south Alton up here in Nova Scotia and it’s can be a mine field of rocks and deep water and mud of it rains. Lots of swearing usually going on, LOl! I do love a mud race.
As exhausted as you were following your excursion off the bank, you made a ton of good line choices and gutted it out! Real good on ya! That was a great ride!
Oh man, I did something similar in a local hare scramble last month. First lap. Got a great start. We all hit the first steep hill and I charge up the first line to make some passes. Halfway up I hit a branch and went sideways. Had to turn quick and run back to the bottom to make another run. Collided with another rider at the base and went off into a deep ditch. It took everything I had to get the bike out and I realized my race was done. At 65 and just getting over some injuries it just made me feel old.
looks like your rebound was too soft and kicked you up and sideways. trying going in your rebound a few clicks to settle it down in high speed sections
Thank you. I appreciate any guidance or suggestions. Setting up the suspension to work good as fast as my right hand wants to go is one of my struggles.
@@philipcaudill626 This is one of my strengths. While I don't run, GNCC, I run same class as you, have multiple championships. You can clearly tell your suspension threw you sideways 100%. It was not you! To combat this I suggest 2 things. 1) Go in a 3 clicks on front and rear rebound. Keep in mind that any time you stiffen rebound, it effects compression, so when going in a few rebound clicks you may have to go out 1-2 compression clicks to regain compliance. Also, on the rear, don't worry about low speed compression as much, it only effects compression on BIG hard landings like jumps. The high speed adjuster is where its at for offroad. To calm down high speed rear end kick back, go OUT 2 clicks on your high speed. Without knowing your weight, bike and springs, this is a good place to start. Try it this weekend and let me know how you make out. Also, I see you run a late model KTM 2 stroke, you want that rear sag around 108 (yes 108). Get some of the weight off the forks and onto the rear shock and let the shock start doing most of the work (as it should).
@@95jersey Wow. Thanks for the suggestions. I have nothing to lose by giving some things a try. I actually softened it a little for my last race and left it soft for this one because of the rocks and sharp edges I'd be seeing. My biggest problem is that I'm racing on weekends and don't have a good place, or time otherwise, to do some serious testing. Thanks again.
For some reason i always thought GNCC was one lap.. never really watched or looked into it. Only just recently thought about going to the one coming up in october (same race)
The morning (AM / 'Amateur') race is 2 hours - roughly. The Pro race is 3 hours. This is a great race to do. Nothing is real technical and the crowds and activities there are awesome.
Thanks. I'd like to add voice-over to the videos - but I've tried and it takes a long time. Good video of your race too. Probably come race with you guys again at Ditch Banger.
I feel like everyone always counts out the vets.. nah not me. Ya’lls ability to and stubbornness to stay upright is rather impressive!🤣 I will never not love racing you guys, you all rock🤘.. i always try to learn a lil sum from vets. And always so damn nice to others Edit: i spoke too soon about falling.. but its okay lol
Thanks. I struggled a bit here but did better on the sand this time than I have yet. I wish I had been able to get back up quicker though. I lost too much time on the ground and getting rolling again.
Thanks again. Maybe it looks easier than it is. haha. There are some very more experienced guys out there that make me feel slow. But I'm still learning - and having fun - so, I'll keep going and trying to improve.
No- didn't come close to winning this one. haha I had a really bad first lap that put me back to 10th. I rode better the next two laps but only made up one more position before the end. I did get more valuable experience in the sand though.
The guy you bumped on the Kawi is my friend. He did go down and was stuck momentarily on a log. I rode with him yesterday and he is all good with it. Rubbin's racin'. I enjoy your videos. Keep 'em coming!
Yeah it was tiring. Good - I swerved too and went off but luckliy didn't catch a log. Regardless, I would have let off or stayed on that far left line if I had seen ya sooner.
Hi. Yes, I did enjoy myself. I visited a couple of local breweries and the local people were very nice. I like the terrain and track too. I look forward to coming back next year.
Good ride brother. I had some of my best gncc finishes at power line park . survival of the fittest at that race. Hope to ripp with ya again sometime soon. #44
Hi. At the GNCC races, I chest mount it - only because they make a stink about it and I take their 'protest' claims more seriously (because I care about the championship points this year.) At other races I run a chin mount - which I think, and like, much better.
Thanks. Yeah, I have the speed sometimes but making too many little mistakes. yes, falling and getting the bike up and rolling takes more energy than going hard for 20 minutes.
@@philipcaudill626 I think it’s just a good quality video, keep it up! I race the afternoon bike race so I always love watching videos after the race.👍
@@joshconner1078 Thank You!! Based on the track improving a little over our race - or maybe just getting used to it - you hopefully had a better track than our first lap. It didn't seam like there was any run-up to the big hill climb, and everyone was waving us around - so I figured there were more guys getting stuck and blocking the lines than were making it up clean.
For sure, but yea our track was pretty tacky for the most part but the hill was still tough had about 10 feet and a 90 degree turn for a run up hahah it only seemed a few seconds slower to go around it
What settings are you running in your gopro? I just started putting one on my son in youth but can't seem to find settings that don't take forever to upload, but look good as well? Thanks
Hi. For the basics, I'm running 4K, 60 frames, HyperView, max stability. It does take quite a long time to process and also upload. I usually merge the videos overnight and then its 3-5 hours upploading the 4k to youtube - depending on the video length.
Yeah- I haven't for so long, so hopefully I can go as fast as I'd like to without worrying so much about tucking it or not staying on line. Once I get the rear adjusted now to keep up with the front I'll be able to get on the gas sooner with more confidence as well.
Thanks a lot. It was actually a lot better this race. lol I've been lowering the fork air pressure, below the recommendations, more and more and that seems to help. For here, I probably should have taken a click or two out of the compression - huh ?
@@philipcaudill626 ah air forks, there lies your main problem. Get the 6500 spring conversion ASAP or you will be forever struggling. If you still want to run air, I'd recommend no higher than 130 PSI even on fast stuff. Fellow A Sup Senior rider here. Your just way to stiff here. hope it helps next race.
Nice ride, that course looked awesome, I really appreciate your description, gives a great overall perspective of the race and how you finished. You also dispelled an assumption I have been under for a long time; even A riders take a bad line and dirt samples on occasion. We have our first race in Iowa this weekend, can’t wait, first race in the 50+ C class. At least this year I am not the oldest one in the class this year! Thanks for the video and making us old guys look so good, good luck at the next race!
Thanks a lot. I'm working on adding some commentating during the video editing also. I tried it on this one but the audio levels were bad so I had to scrap it. Oh, I take more than my share of dirt samples. haha Most of the time it's because I'm riding over my head and experience. I have gotten better at pacing myself a little better, and not going all out the first lap, so I'm not so exhausted half way through the race. Good luck in your race ! Maybe we'll run into each other if you go to one of the GNCC races out your way in TN or IN, which I plan to hit.
AWRCS is a great series. Real good people, nice tracks, usually less than a minute through registration, special family events and music at certain events, excellent banquet. I've raced all over the east coast and it's the best run series I've done.
The infamous “uuugghhh”. You either knocked the wind outta ya, or broke some ribs lol, not in between, and both make you feel like you’re about to die 😂 glad you were all good
It was bad enough I got x-rays. They said nothing was broke. But then I fell a couple times the following weekend - and stretched out my healing process. lol
Awesome job! I watched the crash video as well.. took a pretty hard hit. Watch 29:22 to the end to see how much smoother your corner exits are. Also, I think it’s great you recording your races! Go back through and look at how many straighter paths you could have taken or carried momentum better in certain sections. Could shave minutes off your time instead of seconds. Anyway, I’m subscribed! 💪👍 keep em coming
Thanks chili. Yes- that's why I started recording - because I want to get better and I notice things I can have then worked on. Even where other riders are going or where they're getting on the gas etc. - that you really can't isolate while racing. I'll have The General GNCC up in a day or so.
Watching my video, I saw that I almost got too sideways in the same spot my first lap too. Thanks. I'm on the mend now. Just finished the GNCC in GA yesterday. What a slop-fest that was.
Yeah, just some really bruised ribs. I rode the following weekend - and shouldn't have. I've got The General this weekend. My only goal is to stay on two wheels and finish.
The best way to figure them out is to follow their facebook page. This link should get you to the picture of their schedule facebook.com/photo/?fbid=899995722133680&set=pb.100063697806341.-2207520000
Great riding dude. Super fun to watch and thanks for bring us along for the ride. Keep rippin.👍 Having a guy cart wheel in front of ya😮😮 just had the same thing happen to me this last weekend. Not sure there is anyway to be ready for that stuff to happen
Thanks Randy. yeah, the bike standing up, broadside in front of me was a surprise. I ducked and hit his clutch cover square with the top of my helmet. I think that's where I also got a huge bruise on my left leg. ahaha.
They went to a 2hr format last year, so I'm thinking we did 4. It's tough to get a 5th lap based on the leaders and our start back from them. A lot of this course was all new this past time and some other sections I had recognized we ran opposite direction. AWRCS does a super job with track layout.
