Do the oil change on the trans every 40-50l miles and this would not happen, I have a 5.3 v8 8 speed, since 0 miles I use it for towing my 8.5x20 enclosed trailer, always hauling more than 7-9k pounds and I had never had any problem, truck currently sitting on 300k miles mark, transmission shifts like new, so key factor is, DO THE MAINTENANCE ON THE TRANSMISSION!! The trans is not bad, is the stupid owners that think that this fluid is for life, yeah right think that and you will make gm multi millionaire buying their transmission for not changing the oil
I had a 2007 300,000 miles was in accident and total loss trans worked perfect Now have a 2014 232587k trans works great you know there are service recommendations if you follow those probably not going to have an issue
I'll bet most of these owners never serviced the transmission. If they believed the dealer bs about lifetime fluid that's their fault too for being gullible.
All GM, Ford and Ram transmissions fail. A mechanic told me it depends on a lot of factors. Servicing the tranny around 70K helps. Not romping down on the accelerator also helps. Replacement of the temperature valve is a good idea. Stay away from oversized wheels. Lastly, NEVER throw it in reverse or drive without coming to a full stop.
I tuned my 6L80e transmission with a Hypertech tuner by increasing the line pressure and adjusting the shift points early in its life. That got rid of the hesitation and now it has 208,000 miles on it. I have consistently changed the transmission fluid and filter every 30 to 50,000 miles by dropping the pan every time.
I'm retired now after 40 years as a tech, and in the shop I worked at I'd say we replaced 50 GM transmissiions for one of every other make combined. Same ratio for engines, wheel bearings, A/C condensers, timing chains, etc, etc.........In other words, a trend had formed.
I have an 88 extracab, 107k, kind of rusty in places, the dash is sunburnt from tan to dark brown, Got an 88 plastic bed liner, who knows what the bed looks like, Ladder rack and cross bed Weather Guard tool box (rusty too). 17 mpg , it is still runs good. Dog gon heater cores shake until the pipes that go through the fire wall leak, done 4 of them in the last 36 years. Still though, a good little truck.
During Covid, some lady went viral for trying to turn that depressing situation around. Tired of seeing people, depressed and upset because of being locked inside she started putting rubber ducks on jeeps that she thought were really cool looking along with it, she would put a note that said you’ve been duked. I hope this brings a smile to your face. ( obviously, she probably collected rubber ducks, ) Because she went viral, it started a trend, and now owners will buy their own ducks as a symbol that they have a cool ride. There are also many people that still go around putting ducks and notes on Jeeps.
I have a 2007 garage Queen loaded Tahoe with the 4L60 I believe that’s what they came with . 4 speed for sure, made it barely over 200k miles never even towed & lost 3/4 gear getting onto a highway, shifted at 3k rpm’s to get up with traffic and boom 3/4 gone.
Quick question my brother. I have a 2006 Ford Taurus and I have problems passing smog. Took test and came out that it has a small leak EVAP system leak detected and I talked to a mechanic and from the start he wants $250 to diagnose my car not including the start of my car fixture. Any recommendations?
Got a 2015 chevy tahoe with 131k. Zero issue's with motor and tranny. Regular oil changes, normal wear and tear part's changed on motor. On the Tranny side, not one issue.
Yeah, most ppl don't upkeep regular maintenance on pretty much everything. They think they can drive something magically until it breaks down. Most ppl don't even know how to check their transmission fluid. It's not the vehicle most times but the operator that is at fault for shortened life spans of vehicles. Let's keep it real.
Dont know crap about GM but im original owner of my 2001 ram which almost looks like the day i bought. I use it all summer to tow my 6,800lb boat. I change trans filter and fld. Every 25k happy to say its still perfect
