Since 1998 I've have a website devoted to The Greatest American Hero. I've spent the last 4 decades collecting material about the production and interviewing people that worked on the series. With this channel I hope to share rare video and information I've put together over years with other fans of the show and spotlight the hard working cast & crew that took a regular guy and made him a hero.
Love it 🤘,thanks for all you do here, I think every episode was special in its own way, if your a true fan of "The Greatest American Hero", have a great week 🤘✨🤘📺🎥
As a kid, it was all the superhero stuff I was into. Watching again as an adult I appreciate everything else that was going on. I think It was one of those shows that dads could enjoy with their children. Bill was also great in 'House'.
Yes the episode is real, the teaser is my creation that I did for fun since one doesn't exist. NBC ordered a pilot presentation in 1986, when the network passed on it the presentation was padded out to make a full episode and it was added to the shows syndication package in the late 80s. It doesn't currently run with the series.
William Katt was born crazy for his successful role as Ralph Hinkley, a high school teacher who became a modern day “superhero” through trial and error. Robert Culp was no slouch either. He portrayed the gruff, no-nonsense FBI Agent Bill Maxwell who used Ralph to help stop criminals from breaking the law. And the lovely Connie Sellecca (of future “Arthur Hailey’s Hotel” fame) was ADA Pam Davidson, Ralph’s girlfriend and eventual wife, who assisted the two sometimes on their missions.
I hated the voice over for Ralph.... I remember watching this at my sisters.. I recorded this at her home... I still have this on tape provided the flood and restoring what was saved from the flood being stored in the gerauge... Even though my brother in law cut on me... U was a happy camper and it was like I was back in 1981....
Pull up on the stick! :LOL Could not resist.... This one really put Ralph though his paces.... This is one of the best epispdes... Right there with Spoilsport...
This is the best channel just saying people do alot of household names heroes but personally since The Greatest American Hero is my favorite Hero I am glad this channel exist and I think this is the best channel
Great episode, thank you for all you do, shared to my page, does anyone of you, have a Facebook, I could add you as a friend? Thank you, have a great weekend 🤘💯🤘
Your welcome Rich, as always thanks for watching! There's a Trivia Tidbits coming up in a day or so about Now You See It. Many thanks for sharing the Archives work. I'm not on Facebook and I've never put the Archives on Facebook but if I was I would certainly add you as a friend. Thanks for asking.
👍 Excellent job, I still can't wait for vfx you will cover in season 3 flying but also other vfx if u can please this is a beg I know I don't have PATREON but if u do the season 3 and other effects man that be cool information
Thanks! I will get to season 3. I'm looking for some other visuals to use mixed in with the the flying shots to give people a good idea of how the process worked.
Hey dose anyone have more Fox Family Channel promos commercials from 1999 like when they shown live action superhero 🦸♂️ movies 🎥 marathon like when they shown Batman Returns (1992 Movie) Superman (1978 Movie) The Flash (1990 tv pilot episode) and The Greatest American Hero (1981 Tv pilot episode) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 Movie) so do you have that on your RU-vid channel?
My channel is only about The Greatest American Hero not superhero movies in general. Sorry I did not record anything that contains promos for any of the movies you are talking about.
Yep, that is true. It's one reason I'm posting the teasers for old fans to enjoy that remember seeing them on the original broadcast and new fans that might never have seen them at all. Thanks for watching!
If I had a real super suit with actual powers I would wear it with zero issues. Once being seen wearing my suit with actual super powers the jeers and any heckling would vanish over night and you would be loved and even worshipped.
I agree Johnny! When I managed to get my hands all the ratings for every ABC broadcast of TGAH I was sad to see how low this episode placed for the week.
You're welcome! They didn't do a bad job cutting that together, and since I've never met very many fans that caught this on Fox Family Channel I thought people might find the story of all the edits interesting.
Always love these , thank you, always brings back memories of growing up, family, school, friends, every week waiting to watch the next episode, thank you for all you do here 🤘💯📺💭📺💯 awesome
You got me on that one Rich, I don't know. Either someone in house that Fox Family used to voice their material, or a freelance voice artist they hired on a case by case basis depending on their needs.
Thank you for all you do here to keep the memory of this series alive. I never paid attention or knew about the syndication anomalies until I started seeing your videos. Thankfully I checked my tapes and I do have the Pam Davison credit as well as the Pam Hinckley credit for Connie on my old Betamax tape episodes of “The newlywed game and “Live at Eleven” Eventually I’ll have to re-cut and re edit some of these episodes that were badly truncated on the Dvds
That's what I've slowly been doing with my HD remasters of each episode, returning them to "as broadcast" with those credits, etc. Nice job hanging onto those tapes!
This is one episode I saved on my original ABC Betamax recording. My copy has the trailers and mid station break as well. Recently transferred it to DVD. I remember the season started late in fall 1981 due to a writers strike and baseball play offs. Which I guess was the reason for the baseball episode to be aired first. I remember watching Spoilsport the following week thinking why wasn't this one used for the season opener!
I thought the same thing about Spoilsport working as the season opener back then, and imagine my surprise years later when a friend that worked at the local ABC station gave me a dozen or so GAH photo's with press sheets attached and I found out it was originally supposed to be the season premiere. I have a question about your Betamax recordings. Could you please drop me a line when you have a moment at tgaharchives@gmail.com Thanks!!!!
Very nice. I too have original ABC episodes I recorded on Betamax at the time, and mine have some of the station break bumpers. These look like great recreation! Thank you for all your dedication to this. I love the original trailers and hated they were removed for syndication.
Thanks, much appreciated!! I love them too, and was really disappointed that at least the Cannell Productions created teasers for season 2 and 3 weren't included. I recorded the series back in the 80s using the Betamax format as well. :)
Heck yeah he did! He was good at playing a creep too from time to time, good actor. I missed a chance to interview him a couple of years before he passed away. I regret not making time for that. I'm sure he had many great stories to tell about his career.
I had never wondered how these shots worked. It's really cool how much effort and creativity were put into these. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and cool background pictures!
You're welcome, glad you liked it! The production didn't have big bucks to spend, but I think most of the time they pulled off for 80s tv. There's more flying FX videos coming up in the future.
Hello, hope all is well, with you and yours here. I would like to thank you all for the most amazing job your doing with the archives. I forgot to ask, if I haven't already, but who was the announcer of these promos? I wish I would have thought back then, to send for his autograph, he actually did more promos than GAH. I wish you all a great weekend, keep up the great work, take care. Sincerely: Richard
Hey Richard, all good here at the archives. Our shooting location special agent just discovered the name of the school used in the pilot movie. Working on a mega episode for the pilot locations, hopefully out this summer. Thanks for asking and the compliment it's much appreciated! Hope all is well with you. Fool3SufferingFools is right on the money about Ernie Anderson. If you search Ernie's name here on YT you should find a interview or two and one that shows him working recording voiceovers for ABC. Thanks for watching!
@@sesamestreetclassicmusican2278 You are correct William S. Hart High School in Newhall, Ca was used in the hour long episodes. :) It's a totally different location in the pilot movie. We've been looking for that location for awhile. The mountains in the background when the bus leaves the school parking lot was a huge help in locating the school.
I don't like the new songs either. Pretty much takes one out of the moment, especially if you were used to hearing the originals. Strangely enough after the music change the series ran on Retro Television Network and Eve of Destruction was intact! I thought maybe the episode had been returned to it's original form after all the uproar. That wasn't the case since every broadcast I've seen after the series left RTN are the mucked up music versions. Was it an accident RTN was given a copy of OS with original music, or done on purpose? We probably will never know.
No white box for Davidson, and not when it was changed to Hinkley either. Only one with the box was Culp's Maxwell credit. I would love to read the contract stating that the "Bill Maxwell" name credit was to be in a box. :) Sadly the shows credits are monkeyed up pretty bad now and we will never seen them officially returned to the way they first ran on ABC. That might be a project someday to post a series of videos on the Archives website documenting the credit changes.
I was 16, and I loved this show, Ralph was awesome 😎, Robert Culp was a laugh riot, with his straight man delivery.. And, well Connie Selleca, need I day more ? Thanks for sharing this..
