Jarod Shelley ok I see where I live FFs use blue lights or blue/white lights with no sirens and there's one fire department the personal can't use lights or sirens unless there in a fire department vehicle like a fire truck ambulance or command unit.

Have you hateful people ever tried getting to a place in thick traffic and had some jerk doing 20 in a 45 driving in front of you when you knew you might be the only person there to help save an 8 year old boys life after he had just been pulled out of a swimming pool and drowned? Or to a car accident where someone is pinned inside of there car bleeding to death and you knew that you were the closest to the station to hurry up and respond to the station and go pick up the rescue truck with the vehicle extrication tools? Have you ever been to a call at 3 am to a rest home where only you and 1 other person had to pump an elderly mans chest for over 25 minutes in the back of an ambulance to try and save his life from a heart attack?? I would immagine not. Not all volunteers speed, drive recklessly, or break the law while responding to an emergency call. Pull over out of our way when we ask for it with our lights! It might end up being your house or loved one we are coming to save without expecting a thing in return!! We work our asses off in training, sacrifice time away from our family, go without sleep, and risk our lives at the drop of a hat no matter what time it is when that pager goes off without expecting ANYTHING but respect in return. It is very dissrespetful to people who genuinly car about other people enough to do all of that.

+FireFighter#47 I would much rather have a paid professional firefighter/paramedic show up at my house any day. Atleast they come when needed, and I won't have to wait 5 dispatches for 1 piece of apparatus with 2 "firefighters" to show up while my house is burning to the ground. The volunteer fire service is beyond antiquated, and its days are numbered.
@DDFJ1230
@DDFJ1230 8 лет назад
Hahaha so one dept that cant get their shit together means all of them are like that? I don't think so. Over 75% of ALL fire departments in the US are volunteer. And you should also know that the only difference between a volunteer and a career firefighter is that one of them gets paid for their work. There is no such thing as a firefighter or paramedic that isn't a professional and in order to be a functioning member of a department you have to be PROFESSIONALLY trained first. And until you have seen the years of training and time we have sacrificed with our families you have no room at all to talk trash about any fire department.

Ever taken into mind that there are multiple FF1, FF2, Rescue & EMT classes? Training for most firefighter certifications take over a year to get while taking 4 to 5 class days from 6 to 10 pm all year. Not to mention rescue and emt certifications

This Chief is well aware of the problem with low IQ COWBOYS, like the Rambo who identified hazardous intersection from 887 feet but didn't hit the brakes until 96 feet.............. "Chester Fire Chief, Steve Heyn, testified that Chester Fire chose not to equip personal vehicles with emergency lights because of a concern that the firefighters would drive “like cowboys,” (3) the collision occurred on the 4th of July, which Bauman knew would cause an increase in traffic, (4) Bauman saw Gabriel's vehicle at least 887 feet before the collision and heard Cheryl say, “Oh no, don't go,” and (5) Bauman did not attempt to apply the breaks until 96 feet before the collision". ========== Too many zeroes anxious to play the role of super hero. 3 Doors Down song Kryptonite.

A lot of people have wrecked responding to calls but that's because they weren't smart enough to listen to their FD. Don't make yourself another emergency. Take it slow and get to the firehouse safely and efficiently

Ya, some people... you just can't fix stupid. However... I'll bet that with a little bit of effort (about as much as you did) I can come up with a comparable list where "paid" firefighters are being prosecuted for STARTING the fires that they are putting out !!! because they were bored ! Don't blame the volunteers... yes, some people can get carried away, but that doesn't mean that some others won't be there to save your life.

Correct !!! 1) A volunteer firefighter in Missouri who was responding to an emergency in his personal vehicle with lights and siren on, has been charged with reckless driving. 2) Volunteer firefighter Matt Ousley was ticketed by the Holt Summit Police for reckless driving when responding to a fire call. 3) A volunteer firefighter from Portage, Ohio has been sentenced to 9 months in prison for causing an accident in 2010 that killed a 24 year old man and seriously ... 4) ALAN WILSON ATIORNEY GENERAL The ... been complaints that some volunteer firemen are driving their private vehicles in a ... consequences of his reckless … 5) S.D. Southport volunteer firefighter suspended after arrest for impersonating cop I have been an ACCIDENT FREE driver for over forty years. The ONLY time I was almost killed was by a slack jaw, volunteer clown who was; 1) Speeding 2) Passing at an intersection 3) Traveling in the wrong lane If not for pausing an extra second at the stop sign, and glancing to my right, I would have pulled out into MY lane and been struck by this brainless buffoon. The low life hillbilly Hoosier thought he was James Bond and entitled to violate traffic laws en route to some auto accident. I came away with the impression there are far too many mental defectives involved in this volunteer activity, who are actually king size losers looking for a reason to bolster self esteem.. Wasn't surprised when the CHIEF acted casual and failed to exhibit the appropriate concern.

Find a brain. Another moron who can't handle reality. Citizens don't benefit from idiots with a super hero complex who kill themselves and endanger the public. FIVE DEAD AHOLES.......good riddance A Ridgeville, SC firefighter died in a POV accident, Sunday afternoon, while responding to a fire. "At around 4:30 Sunday afternoon, a truck was traveling on Horseford Road in Ridgeville when it went off the road, struck a tree and killed the driver. A Virginia firefighter was killed Saturday afternoon while responding to a call in his personal vehicle. Josh Smith, 25, was a member of the La Crosse Vol. Fire Department, according to reports. A member of the Tar Heel Fire Department died Thursday evening after getting into a motor vehicle accident while responding to an emergency accident, according to emergency workers. David Hunsinger Jr., 23, has been identified as the victim. AMORY, Miss. - Authorities say a volunteer firefighter was killed while responding to a fire call. Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said in a news release that 18-year-old Jacob Anthony Carter of Amory died at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo Sunday after his SUV ran off the road, overturned and struck a tree. The accident occurred just before noon on McCullen Road south of Amory. Officials say Carter, who was a firefighter with the Becker-Athens Volunteer Fire Department, was not wearing his seat belt. These EXPERTS address the problem of mishaps by VFD screwballs in POV.......... www.firehouse.com/forums/t104559/ Mike Wilbur wrote an article for Firehouse Magazine (Nov 08) EV Ops section titled "Warning: POV's Kill". It seems to me that maybe that should be titled "Warning: POV Drivers Kill". Not to get into symantics here, but a vehicle never killed anyone. It's usually been the immature, reckless, untrained, or irresponsible drivers of the POV that cause the accident that kills someone. Two of the Three examples given were of FF's age 25 and under (one being a cadet!!). I don't know the statistics, but I would venture a guess that a majority of POV deaths occur when the driver is 25 or younger. (post legitimate stats if you have 'em) I've seen and heard A LOT of debate on POV responses and POV light and siren authorizations, but no one EVER seems to get to the root of the problem; the guy behind the wheel. I can understand that it might be hard to determine an individual's level of responsibility; however, age, training, and driving history should be a MAJOR deciding factor. I'll even admit the way I drove my POV when I was 24 is vastly different than today. Simply put...I've matured. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 19:00 - For this week's Company In Service training, Deputy Chief Bill Kelly invited the DSFS to "reinforce good habits while responding." DSFS Instructor Mark Dolan (Mill Creek FD) presented information both from video and from Delaware State Law, that is pertinent to all members in the Volunteer Fire Service. "Our reputations are on the line every time we get behind the wheel" he exclaimed to the class of 31 volunteers ranging from new license holders to veteran operators for company. According to VFIS (Volunteer Firemen's Insurance Services) "one of the biggest risks regarding volunteers is they think they can respond as an emergency vehicle" which isn't the case. We would like to thank Mark Dolan for presenting the material. We would also like to remind all of our members and our brothers and sisters that may respond to the next call for service, the 25% of all LODD are from traffic accidents and as Instructor Dolan said " guess what, all of those were 100% preventable." Prevention starts with us. Safe Driving!. This CHIEF refers to slack jaw clowns as cowboys......... Chester Fire Chief, Steve Heyn, testified that Chester Fire chose not to equip personal vehicles with emergency lights because of a concern that the firefighters would drive “like cowboys,” the collision occurred on the 4th of July, which Bauman knew would cause an increase in traffic, Bauman saw Gabriel's vehicle at least 887 feet before the collision and heard Cheryl say, “Oh no, don't go,” and Bauman did not attempt to apply the breaks until 96 feet before the collision. -

I started out as a volunteer @ 16-25. Then when went full-time. The first 20 years were a blast. The last 9 officially suck. Can't wait to retire in one more year. My point is this, when I look back over my long career, my fondest memories are being a volunteer. The comradery and social dynamics were second to none. Good luck with your recruitment.
