When i was younger( mid 1980s) my older brother had bought a 1970 state police cruiser at auction. If i remember correctly it was a galaxie 500 429 interceptor. I remember it registered 140mph and he showed me 120 in it on a long straightstretch. He didnt take care of it and only kept it for 2 years
I remember when dad bought a brand new Galaxy 500 in 1971 model just like this one only lime green with a 351 Cleveland 4 barrel traction lock 9 inch rear in it love that car wish I had it now !
I owned and drove daily for three years this same vehicle until it was destroyed while parked by a hit and run coward ! Your car is a very fine example of Ford offerings
bought a galaxy 500 2 dr sport roof. Only had 56k original miles. Big 390 2bbl automatic. It was parked infront of my mothers and was hit in the rear end by an angry teenager whod taken off in her mothers car. Completely destroyed it
It looks just like the car used in the US TV show "The Streets of San Francisco" at the start of the series. '71 was the first year for the fan-boosted power ventilation which was standard on cars without air-conditioning. It's rare to find a rust-free car like yours and one with a cloth interior in good condition.
Had the same car with the same 351W engine, but a 2-door hardtop. The highway MPG was consistantly in the mid 20s. I can't imagine the 302 or the 240 six did any better.
I’ve got the same colour on my ‘71 convertible with magnum 500’s, great car with 35k miles on it. It was a bit slow with the 351 but AFR heads, cam, four barrel and headers made a big difference plus I get heaps better mileage.
@@thomasottervig8523 I had the same conundrum as mine was completely original but I kept all of the stock components so all can be returned to stock. I had to do it as I have a ‘71 coupe with a hot 429 that runs mid 12’s so the convertible felt like an absolute sloth. I also have a pretty rough ‘71 custom that was ex US embassy here in Australia that I want to restore but use a 4.0 litre Barra with a single turbo, should be a great sleeper.
As a kid, Dad had a 71 Galaxie 500 4dr hardtop. Maroon/maroon with a black vinyl top and full wheel covers. 351, PS, PDB, AC and an AM radio. That's what you got as a company car for a middle level manager. They sprang for the clock, visibility group, and - at Dad's request - heavy duty suspension lol.
The hubcaps are now installed. The car was according to the Marti report delivered with black wall tires, so I stick with them, since I am a sucker for originality. ;)
If kept in tune and the rest maintained properly that car would run a half a million miles. Those 351W engines are some of the toughest that Ford made. I've run one 390k miles and it still ran great, it leaked from every seam, but it ran great.
Beautiful condition! I had an almost similar 1983 CX20 Pallas. Apart from being green metallic, I think the only difference was that it had rubber protectors on the chrome bumper sides, and rear headrests. And yours has a much nicer interior colour (in fantastic condition).
Love the car, love the look & exterior color. But that green interior. I hate to be critical but can’t that be dyed brown? I’d be curious. If the interior matched the exterior that would be the only improvement this car needs. Other than that, great car you’ve put together.
