Welcome to Cities by Jake! A little about me, I'm a Architect by Day who loves Urban design. I have a Master's degree in Architecture with a focus in Urbanism. (Side note: Urbanism does not equal Urban Design. They're similar but different.) Some other hobbies I like are photography, Videography, VFX & the great outdoors!
I've always loved building games, Sims, Sims City's, Lego etc. So if you are the same then you've come to the right place!
I just spent 10 minutes trying to figure out why I suddenly had a red outline around the video. I thought I pressed something. Its you with the game on pause. Duh. Good video :)
If you want the rail lines to cross the roadway without a conflict point, it is better to keep the rails at ground level and bridge the road over than to go the other way around. That’s what the city I work in did. The rail line was an at grade crossing with gates and everything but it created a massive jam whenever a train came through around the time of shift change in the nearby factories. So they bridged the road over the railway and the traffic improved greatly. It is much easier for cars and trucks to bridge over a railway than the other way.
Given how much traffic a business/industrial area creates, you might want to consider changing the main highway intersection into an actual interchange. Perhaps something like a SPUI?
Not yet, my PDX account is still set up to my personal account/name. I need to create a new account with this name and then I'll be able to have mod lists, Save As, and Custom Maps!
very nice video tho def gonna start watching you now! it would be a nice to have some timestomps, eg: video start, city start, building highway, builing network, ... keep it up tho!
I don't think calling it Cape Coral is appropriate since it doesn't stick out enough to be called a Cape. However there is actual cape to the North of the town(following the shore). What about Long Beach? Since its a long beach.
A suggestion: I noticed during the last time lapse that there was an empty green area surrounded by trees and bushes. It is on the intersection of Moore and Manor streets. That’s the perfect spot for a little park called “Moore Manor Memorial Park”. There used to be a manor house there owned by the Moore family that tragically burned down during the night. Only the family patriarch, Michael Moore survived because he was out of town on a business trip at the time. He established that park in memory of his wife and children who perished in the blaze. 🪦
I like it! I'm going to step away from this area for a bit & focus on the industries in the next few episodes, but I will address this when we return to the area!
Your videos have given me much insight in how to make CS2 more enjoyable. TY. I do however would like some of your input. I have an asset Large Apartment Complex. I can select it, but once I try and place it by a road, it will not let me put it where I want, it says distance too short. I am thinking about making a city of apartment complexes, but cant until I can place where I want one to be placed. Any thoughts about why I can not place the apartment complex anywhere there is a street or road?
🤯🤯 yo hold on, I didn't know the borders could be edited like that, does that mean that modders found out a way to move the borders freely? And also be able to have more than one starting point? So this is the potential of what modders can do??? 😵 Why not add these features in the game officially Colossal Order, it could make things more realistic, having a mechanic that allows people to move the borders, add starting points and even make realistic territories with the borders 🤯🤯🤯
@@CitiesbyJake ooh this makes things easier, I thought it was a mod. In few years I feel like square tiles will not be a thing anymore, so they can recreate maps from real life location and keep the borders as the original to make the game more interesting 🤔 I hope it becomes a new meta, because if just few people use it and it doesn't get popular and official maps never try to modify the borders it's going to be tough...
Wouldn't the alley way behind the town hall be better suited as a continuation of the normal road. Since the normal road has to go around the town hall, people would much rather take the route that avoids the extra distance which would be the alleyway. So it would probably prevent traffic and improve the look if you upgraded the alleyway behind the town hall to a normal road.
For now it’s a one off, I do have a story based build in the works! Just need to finish the map. If more people want me to continue this build then I will!
Agreed! Glad I found it on PDX! Yeah the water in CS2 isn’t great, currently using a mod to scale in down to be more realistic. Plus the physics is challenging to work with. Hopefully they adjust it in the future!
Bro, you have you turn off snap to surface. 2nd from the right. That is from the new mods for assets. That's why your roads are riding up the trees like that.
