The earliest church "fathers" attest to at least Matthew and Luke having been written in Hebrew , that were eventually translated into Greek . There is NO Yeshua in Hebrew scripture sources as the Messiah.. The messianic christian fraudulent movement invented that name. Also there is no Hebrew new testament ever found. The koine Greek papyrus p75 oldest original Christian New testament 125ce. The original Septuagint 72 rabbis were forced to translate into Greek was only Genesis to Deuteronomy only not the rest of Tanakh. The Lxx Septuagint later was put together by Hellenistic apostates Greeks. This Yeshua thing is all over the place.. Nonsense

Despite (or maybe as a result of?) is unconventional views on areas that are considered to be pseudoscience he made one of the most important contributions to solid state physics buy predicting the Josephson tunneling effect in superconducting circuits, for which he was awarded a Nobel prize. Don't you think it's better to judge an argument by the facts and reasoning adduced rather than identity and or reputation of the author? Even Einstein was famously wrong on many things i(ncluding superconductors, which were only explained by bardeen Cooper& Scrheifer in around 1956)

im at 16 minutes, im not exactly sure where he is reading this but the josephus writing i read on Yeshua is very very brief, yes"if it be lawful " comment is said, and that many jews followed HIm, so to me thats the highest praise you could probably give even, though the rest he read off i have not seen in the josephus writings, josephus from what i read does not mention a reserection or any of the rest.

It's very precarious to let someone get away with defending Isreal stealing historical artifacts by arguing that they weren't storing it properly. It's the exact same argument used in colonialist plundering, and any critical questioning exposes the flaws in the argument.
Since living is an act of politics, and so is the practice of scholarship, I really recommend everyone watch the video "The Israeli General's son who now calls to an end of the apartheid state" to picture Israel driving truckloads of plundered valuables from Palestine in 1967.

Regarding seculars staying at monasteries. I'm not sure Dr. Schiffman is aware of this, but monasteries of various religious traditions usually have adjunct facilities to house secular supporters living there temporarily. I know this because I've previously stayed in two Catholic monasteries, each for a month, a Pink Sisters abbey, one Armenian Orthodox monastery, the actual Shaolin Temple itself, and the Daoist temple on Mt. Wudang. All these monasteries have centuries-old living quarters for outsiders that used to be meant for housing either lower-commitment members of the sect, traveling missionaries, or just secular supporters (sects need money from somewhere) or interested outsiders, and these facilities are furnished like hotels according to the standards of the era. That's why they now function as tourist accommodations. They are an important part of the sect's outreach to the wider public. I think a Roman bath at Qumran makes a lot of sense when you consider how Josephus describes Essenes living in cities and participating in the Sanhedrin. They can't all be cloistered sectarians. The Pink Sisters are a good example of this as they are a very strict cloistered order who take an oath of total separation from the mundane world, yet they have facilities for male tourists to stay in (separated by literal iron grating and fences from the cloister itself). I was allowed in to accompany my mother, who is a longtime secular supporter of the cloister.
The only question I have about the Dead sea scrolls is how can we trust the Israeli government about the truth. People invade countries based on fake history.

If there was this new Jewish sect that had this massive charitable, and philosophical movement going on prior to the war why wouldnt josephus mention it? Have you heard the evidence that Nazareth practiced Essene rules on avoiding human waste in fertilizing crop fields? Very likely that it had a sizable priestly populace just like Qumran. Yet Jesus also denounces elements of Essene life.
@@Hambone3773 The Essene followers of Christ had to break the vows they made to the elders of the Qumran community. Jesus liberated them from the vicious tyranny of that religious cult. They wrote the Gospels in gratitude to their savior.

@@carlharmeling512 Exactly. And that story makes a LOT more sense if they are Essenes or Sympathetic to Essenes since Essenes were much more strict about anti-Hellenism and continual ritual purity and Jesus basically said God would send the Messiah to the Gentiles.
Jake, thank you for interviewing Dr. Schiffman; what he says really contributes to my understanding of the Qumran / Dead Sea Scrolls. But it's a pity that they have no mention of any historical Jesus. Curiouser and curiouser.
The Qumran scrolls content predate Christianity suppose the jesus movement flourished in the late 1st/2nd century. So i doubt there would be any mentions of historical jesus
