The International Jack Benny Fan Club is a 501(c) community which is dedicated to preserving and sharing the life work of the comedic star of stage, screen, TV, and radio Jack Benny.
I actually met Jack Benny in Toronto, Canada. He was giving a charitable concert at Massey Hall, playing his Stradivarious violin. I was a starry-eyed, eleven year old at the time. Mr. Benny was courtly, warm-hearted, very attractive and generous with his time. And I left, walking on air, with an autograph.
Phillip's grandfather had one of the smoothest, yet most powerful voices of his era. Almost didn't recognize "Floyd" without his shears! Jack was the master of mugging. Thanks for the post.
Were there attempts to contact PhIl's daughters? I know his son died about twenty years ago. Not sure he stayed in contact with his father. It is an unknown quantity.
Hello Phillip, I've always been a big fan of your grandfather AND your grandmother. They have brought a lot of joy and laughter to my life. Thank you Phil, Alice , and Jack!
Lara - please moderate your narration style. You offer lots of good information, but it is difficult to follow you. You talk normally, then you speed up. You speak in a normal tone, and then when you come to the end of your sentences you drop your volume so that we can barely understand you. If you just speak in the same manner throughout your narration, it would be much easier to listen to you.
Big fan of the Harris/Faye radio show, less so of Benny's shows over the years, though he was a landmark comedian. Great to see Phil's physicality and facial expressions! A whole new layer hidden by radio. Some of his appropriations of black culture are hard to stomach today, perfectly acceptable at the time...
I understand that in real life Mr. Harris was a modest reserved man, the opposite of his public persona. Bing loved being around him because he made him laugh.
My grandfather and Phil Harris were vaudeville partners back in Indiana until my grandfather left the stage to marry my grandmother. Unfortunately I know little of their history together.
Jack Benny was a superb violinist who was so good he knew how to play the violin badly very well. He played a duet with Isaac Stern at Carnegie Hall. Video on RU-vid.
I realized I missed this but it is a timed speech as you can see the photos flip. That’s why it’s a “countdown”. I obviously could talk about Jack and the cast for ages!
Thank you. Jack Benny was the best!! He gave us hours of laughter 😃. He was a pioneer. Rochester was the true star 🌟 of the show. All the best lines. He and Fred Allen had a fantastic back and forth
The great Howard Mc Near!! Dock on radio version of Gunsmoke and ,of course, Floyd the hwrber and countless radio appearance. He was the only member of the radio cast to appear on the TV version of Gunsmoke. of
I think around 1977 Johnny Carson had Mary Livingston as a guest on The Tonight Show some three years after her husbands , Jack Benny's death . She appeared first and she did not much to say and she did not stay too long . After she left the show continued with other guests . I consider this as one of JC coups in his tenure because Miss Livingston had become by this time a recluse with her husbands death . However she it because of JC's love for Jack Benny . I have seen this episode again on Antenna TV , and I do not think she made any other TV appearances until her death in 1983 .
Here's a bit from Carson that aired on Mar 26, 1987. Dick Cavett brought a tape that Johnny had made back was he was in college. It was mis-filed under 'animal husbandry' of all things! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ArpeSt18AOc.html
Rich Little with his genuine true blue honesty, it is so refreshing! Thank you so much for you getting together. I loved seeing Rich in Las Vegas in 90’s.
I really wish there had been mention of the house directly across the street from Lucille's. It's my understanding that she originally wanted to buy that house but it wasn't obtainable so the Arnazes settled for buying 1000 Roxbury instead. The house I'm referring to was just torn down about a year ago despite there being a petition to save it.
lived on angelo drive up benedict--used to ride my bike to el rodeo along roxbury and wave to lucy who always answered with a smile and wave...met jimmy steward and others thorugh my dad in the business and it was a magical time to grow up in the 50s!!!
@@fromthesidelines, I recognize your first name, middle initial, and your last name from comments left for The George Burns and Gracie Allen television show. There was an individual who had their shows grouped together by Seasons AND Episode numbers, BUT NOW that person’s hard work is gone and the few shows to find to watch are missing several Seasons & Episodes. Do you know what OR who messed up that other person’s hard work? I can not remember how to spell the person’s name, but it is OR was something close to: jefront…
