So, being the healthy girl, you try to adress this doubt and you take it all out there and ask them how they feel about you. And then, they basically tell you they toyed with you the whole time. The one person who you thought saw you as more as just the convenient person to fulfill their needs. This would be so soul crushing

Im a long time stardew valley fan and I love seeing all the differing paths you can take with each candidate. My head canon about the flower dance is that harvey was trying to imply that he wanted to ask [the player] to dance, but [they] didn't pick up on that, so Maru drags him out on the field so he doesn't feel so bad. Like wouldn't it be soooo cuuuuute is he had a crush at first sight and Maru clocks it immediately??? 😭💕
As a disabled person, I actually really like that there's negative consequences for calling penny out. That's the way real life is sometimes. My ex boyfriend was a wheelchair user, and I would often point out when people were acting ableist towards him. Even if they were receptive to my feedback, I generally was seen as too uptight or strict, even unconsciously.

Hi! I've been watching a lot of your videos (they're super good btw) and I wanted to leave my thoughts on this one regarding the bisexuality tangent because I slightly disagree and wanted to share my perspective. To be clear, I don't disagree about the fact that this is a very heteronormative game despite the minor bits and pieces of queer inclusion. I also wouldn't consider this game particularly great queer representation because it's not really representation and more providing options for people. And I also agree that Alex is probably the only character in the game whose story is meaningfully changed by whichever gender the player character is, including Leah here. I also think it's a shame that any and all queerness can be completely bypassed if you want. This all I completely agree with. The thing for me is that I have a hard time feeling like it truly lessens my experience with the game. It comes down to the fact that I know ConcernedApe is (as far as we know) a straight man, and I really don't expect or want most straight men to try to write a dozen interesting and unique queer stories. Not only do I agree that this would be a ton of work, but I also highly doubt it would produce the best results. You just don't know what you don't know, and there are plenty of times where well intentioned people produce less than stellar art by trying to be inclusive. The stories and characters we got are, for the most part, really compelling, and I'm personally glad that I can marry whichever character I want and anybody else can as well. I think the counterargument to this would be that we shouldn't baby straight men regarding how they handle representation, which I don't really have a counter to. As far as any of us know, the motivation for this could've been profit driven or nefarious. But I personally really don't think so. On this note, I would really love if there was queer representation in the game outside of the ability to get with any bachelor regardless of gender. It would be really cool if the game had an older gay couple, or if you could get some of same sex pairings of bachelors and bachelorettes together if you don't marry them, stuff like that. But also, I remember being 15 when I first played this game and being so thrilled that I could marry a boy of my choice in Stardew when that really wasn't something I got to do a lot in games before then. I think that should count for something.

Mmm… I’m generally considerably more attracted to people of color than white people- I’ve dated three white people and 12 POC- but I haven’t had any interest in Maru because I just find her glasses really unattractive. If you were playing as a man and Kel was still a woman, you would then be put in a situation where you as a man are given the option to punch a woman in the face. There would have been way more backlash to that than a man or woman punching a man, or a woman punching another woman. I think that’s why he did that.
i couldn’t possibly disagree more with your takes on demetrius. i at least understand why you’d sympathize with him, since you projected your autism onto him (very convenient if you ask me🙄). he’s definitely not autistic imo, but i can’t / don’t want to type my own analysis out in a comments section, so i’ll leave it at that. all i’ll say is your take on demetrius is incredibly unpopular in the community for a reason lmao. perhaps you’ll reconsider some of your interpretations of his actions and dialogue in the future.
I just wanted to add on here that your discussion around bisexuality really hit home to me. I have had every single thought, internal conflict and confusion as you. I wanted to do my undergrad thesis on this very topic (bisexual individuals in straight-presenting relationships) but my prof thought finding participants would be too difficult so i had to move on from that idea.
ALSO when ur friends with sam he says he plays the guitar when he's lonely and then once you're married he says he hasn't felt the drive to play guitar latelyyy... bc he's not lonely anymoreeeee
i think the cleaning thing and how she grows to like it is also a thing about not only how she opened herself up to other perspectives, but also how she learned to be more positive about life in general. instead of thinking “dirt is bad cause i get dirty and it’s a bother” she thinks “dirt isn’t that big of a deal, especially when you get dirty while having fun. it doesn’t ruin it and having to shower later is worth it”, instead of “cleaning is a chore. i hate chores cause i need to put effort into them” she thinks “if i clean, i can make the place more comfortable and clean for the people i love”. the same is with how she starts doing charity work and being more open to other people. i think before she might’ve been not only stuck in her perspective, but also in her own head. she was self centered. and kind of closed off. she viewed things in a negative way and it was all becoming a chore. a thing of “well if i do that it’ll be less of a bother” “i don’t want to do that cause it’s too much work”. i never thought of it before, really, but that kinda makes me understand the perspective of Haley having depression at first better. she’s thinking in a negative way, she’s closed off and doesn’t really want to do anything. and she gets kinda stuck like that. everything gets boring. i think her love for shopping is also related to how she likes the instant dopamine of buying things. as well as the fact that having new clothes is probably a part of why she was popular at school. i don’t think she exactly has depression. i don’t know how to put it. her at the start of her arc just kinda reminds me of myself when my depression got bad, i guess. and yeah i 100% agree with you on the 10 heart event. i felt rlly uncomfortable with the fact that we don’t even ask her and we’re supposed to think kissing her randomly is the right choice. as a big Haley fan it pisses me off too.

Penny could ask George to move, he could be grumpy because of his character, then the choice of “that was kind of you” and “you should’ve just left him alone” would be less about his autonomy and more about his character. i guess he could not agree, considering his character and everything, but for the sake of the event it could be like a “fine, whatever” thing. the problem we agree or disagree with is just about whether it’s good that she helped him, or she shouldn’t have done that cause he’s embarrassed now, or something like that. again, i don’t have personal experience and i might be wrong, but i just feel like if concerned ape is not up to get other people to fix the scene with him and handle the topic with the care that it deserves, the next best thing would be to remove the issue entirely. making it about George’s character, not about his disability, avoiding leaving people with a feeling that they need to go against their morals in order to gain friendship points.
What an amazing, well-thought-out deep dive into Harvey's character. This gave me even more of an appreciation for ConcernedApe's game-making and storytelling abilities. I've married Harvey in every save file (probably because my IRL husband is so much like him-loves coffee, fear of heights, mustache, etc., haha). I think maybe the reason she doesn’t like when the player says they aren’t strong, is because she was trying to be a lil nice/flirty and they wrecked what she was doing by being self-deprecating. It’s like that vine that goes “why can’t you just take the freaking compliment”. But I think your point about her relationship to strength is still true and very interesting
I always figured the reason she doesn’t like prismatic shards is the same reason she doesn’t like diamonds, it’s that she feels like you’re trying to buy her off like in the scene with the bracelet, and it’s kind of an early indication that she doesn’t WANT to be materialistic, even if she kind of is at first

Leah shows the symptoms of trauma, which overlap with autism and adhd. I wouldn't say she's autistic. Her story shows a previously abusive relationship. I think the confusion between crossover symptoms and looking at symptoms alone is the reason for overdiagnosis of autism. I had the same misdiagnosis. I've been in treatment for a couple years for PTSD and my symptoms have been lessened. I'm also an artist. Creativity doesn't equal neurodivergence.
