King County Metro is the largest transit agency in the Northwest. We provide bus, paratransit, vanpool and water taxi services, and operate Seattle Streetcar, Sound Transit Link light rail and Sound Transit Express bus service. Thank you for riding!
MetroFlex cut driver pay by almost a dollar per hour, and currently charges drivers between 40 and 45 percent of their GROSS PAY for gas and rental of the vehicle that they drive. Would you give up 40+ percent of your gross earnings to drive for a company that cuts driver pay and offers ZERO benefits? (Drivers are 1099) BOYCOTT METRO FLEX
Congrats, we did nothing but paint buses red and close bus stops making them harder to access. Rapid Ride is just service cuts disguised as service improvement.
We've already had electric buses for ages. Trolly wires are more efficient, and should be expanded. Hell, our trolly buses already have had batteries for ages, too. There's nothing new here except the pit you're throwing the money into.
There is a reason they don’t expand the trolley network and install new miles of wire. It’s expensive. Metro is currently working on the 48 electrification. Most of the route is under existing wire but small portion along 23rd are not. That small 2 mile stretch is costing 14 million and will take 10 years when completed in 2026. The other is maintenance. It’s cost King County metro 3 million dollars every year to maintain current trolley service. That’s 1.17 for every mile of trolley service. Battery power has its flaws but it’s far cheaper to build and maintain.
