I watched the video of the derailment many, many times and I heared the boy talking in the background. I just could believe that the boy would be responsible for causing this derailment. And trust me, he had gone too far and he will hugely for this. All he did was to cause this derailment and to get views. I really hope that his channel will be demonetized for that train crash. Even though, he tried to ruin the reputation of all trainspotters along with train crew. I've watched that video when it came out first. I knew something was off. Guess he's goin' to jail. No one should mess with trains, as it could be way worse.
The train that set out the hopper did so a couple of days earlier. To set out the hopper, that crew had to remove the padlock. I've heard no mention of what happened to that padlock. Whether the kid removed it or not. Whether it was even there. As for the kid parking and walking the area, all rail fans do that. All railfans also find out when trains are coming so they don't have to wait forever. There is no video...at least none that I've seen...showing the kid tampering with the switch. I'm not saying he didn't do it but I have yet to see any actual proof that he did and I think a good lawyer could get him off.

Former maintainer here. Are you saying this kid moved the siding switch after the train took the last automatic, and had no idea until he saw the switch target?
IM NOT a railfanner, but it seems to me the idiot threw a switch, the engineer missed the switch signal AND THEN the engine derailed. HE DID NOT derail the train. He is still a moron.
They apparently canvassed the area for video and found out he parked at another grade crossing nearby, walked down and messed with the switch, and then walked back to his car and drove to the other crossing, where he set up to video the whole thing.
First there is his story, about removing a defective coal car and not realigning the switch, they would have still had to realign the switch to reconnect the two halves of the train. At worst they forgot to put the lock back on afterwards and he still flipped the switch. But I also want to see that video where he walked the tracks to the switch which hasn’t been made public and likely won’t until a FOIA request after a convection.
