Long live the OG 404! Really helpful video. Here’s hope everything’s well and you make a comeback soon. PS: at 4:42, you mention that you *copy* the sample over the different pads where you’ll then chop. How do you copy from one pad to the other? I always thought the OG 404 didn’t have that copy function. I’ve always resampled when I wanted to copy.
This really highlighted on some good points making beats on the SP 404.. Just wondering why the Boss 202 was used for the original sample (just for pitch and crackle?) and why not just sample from the record directly to the SP 404? Just curious if it buys you anything other than pitch and crackle..? It's not like the SP 202 was being used to MIDI and following the SP 404 it was just sample and then record what was sampled onto the SP 404 then the SP 202 is out of the workflow at that point. My guess here is you get that effect and pitch out of the way that you really desire then you can have a cleaner easier workflow once you record that onto the SP 404 which makes sense. Man.. really good stuff though I like how you explained things in a simple way.
Which has the worse bpm counter XD i feel like the 202 looks like its might actually be a bit better. Ughhhh the pitch shift is really tempting my wallet right now lmfao
Works 100%. Used this method yesterday, only regret is not adding the shielding to all of the pads haha. Now my cancel/remain/record etc pads are still slow and have to press hard but the bottom pads are all lightning fast. Gonna take it apart again and repeat the process for all the other pads in a few days.
this is a leaning experience to see your process on the sp, ive been using pattern mode but I like the freedom the resampling method gives you with the effects and all. One question, is the pitch down in the sp202 only processing effect you used on the sample ?
Hi man nice video. I was wondering if you time-stretched the sample. If so did you do it on the sp 303 or somewhere else because the sound is really clean! Every time I try to timestretch on the 303 the sample becomes quite glitchy with clicks in them. If you can share some tips I would really appreciate it.
I know a lot of people advise against using hardware only, but could I make one minute lofi beats with a 202 solely? I originally wanted to cop an OG but I might just say forget it and go for the 202
