How many unique patterns does it have? I say "patterns" instead of "states" because the particular colors do not matter.
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing Месяц назад
I has 4 patterns for permutation, (solved, one move away, two moves away and diagonal swap) and i believe 6 patterns of "rings" orientation, so I believe there are 24 patterns total

What's up with the weird perspective? It looks like an opposite or inside-out projection.
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing 3 месяца назад
It's 4^4 but with 1° 4D FOV so cells are flatten in 4th dimension so it can be used as 4x4x4x1, also i like side faces to be close to the Inside cell so the puzzle looks more like physical one
@MelindaGreen
@MelindaGreen 3 месяца назад
@@TymonHypercubing But it still looks wrong. In the limit you'd have an orthographic projection, but this looks like it's gone past that into some weird unreal zone where the closest edges are shorter than the furthest ones.
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing 3 месяца назад
Ah ok, if I understand what you mean, this effect is caused by wide 3D FOV I use to see more of internals of the puzzle 🙂
@MelindaGreen
@MelindaGreen 3 месяца назад
@@TymonHypercubing It looks like a bug to me. It could be that the slider you are using lets you to take the FOV out of range into negative numbers or something. The effect is a bit like a "front face culling" bug something like ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GWN-MNHoX-w.html
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing 3 месяца назад
Oh, you are right, my 3d FOV is actually set to -15° ... I don't think its a bug tho, values go from 120 to -120 and on -120 HSC sais ORP EKAUQ 😂

During the corner orientation step I believe you would have been able to move all 4 corners onto one of the smaller faces and oriented then there instead of misorienting 2 edges to orient the corners on the long face
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing 7 месяцев назад
Yes, you are wright, great point, this only works when there are exactly 4 or 8 corners missoriented tho

Is there a need for specific expertise or background to design something like this, or is it mostly trial and error?
@TymonHypercubing
@TymonHypercubing 8 месяцев назад
I don't think any expertise is needed, I've started completely from scratch. You just have to know how you would like the piece to look, then bringing it to 3d render is not that hard, it's mostly drawing lines or simple shapes and settings dimensions of them
