This looks very exciting. We're planning on visiting for the last week of August and look forward to joining. I might even kick off a new RU-vid channel with this trip. See you soon!
We look forward to having you! Feel free to mention us in your vlog, and contact us directly if you want us to mention your experience on our channels!
We took a food tour with Marius which was fun. Along our walk we stopped for nibbles of various foods, including a cookie, chocolates, cheese, raw herring (not as bad as you think and never pressure to try), and bitterballen. These were truly just a taste, not s whole meal so if you didn't want to try something you weren't missing out too much. I would still recommend at least tasting things since you won't know if you like it until you've tried. Marius gave lots of history information along the way and was kind enough to mark our favorite stops on the map. Bring your own water on this tour!
The poles are made of elm wood. As long as the wood is submerged it won't rot. But water is pumped out of the ground. This causes the peat to shrink and the poles to rot. The result is that the houses are 'dancing'. 'Drunken' would be a better description btw.
What about the old warehousesleaning forward to the channels? Is it true that this was easier for taking goods as they wouldn’t hit the facade or the same reason as leaning to the left and right?
Because they're not straight ;)
Hi Jaap, nice vid on our past! I think "nether" refers to the "lower" lands as opposed to higher lands (where the rivers come from) and not so much "below sea level". Looking forward to #2!
I have heard a lot about your walking tour!! and even saw sky high reviews on your TripAdvisor page!! Each and every guide seem to be highly recommended! <3
this is probably one of the most helpful ways of understanding how the free walking tour concept works! I used to be skeptical about taking a tour before in Europe because the "free" walking tour seems too good to be true! But knowing that you aren't really forced to pay a certain amount puts my mind at ease.. that i wont get ripped off or something. :) And i like the video illustration too !!
My tour guide was Sam and I Have loved the walking tour. He is a very good guide and he took us to several different places. It was wonderful, much better than others tour I've ever done. Congratulations Sandra - Brasil
