Damn I had no idea he had that hate for Buffalo & even made that quip about preferring Houston in that interview Did Bills fans boo him or give him alot of hell when he finally arrived in Buffalo?
Buffalo fans should really hold this against him… despite being beloved now. That was 3 years he could have started earlier and could have won a super bowl. Instead… we got a guy that was 29/30 until he made his first. Time wasted and potentially a title that never happened due to his selfishness.
What are you talking about? Kelly took a losing team to 4 consecutive Super Bowls. You can't blame him alone for those losses. The first one was from a missed field goal.
@@adamwarlock3530he also was already 30-years-old by the time he went to his first SB. Maybe if he would have signed right away, the Bills could have gotten 13 years out of Kelly and wouldn’t have suffered for those 3 extra years
I don't blame him for not wanting to play in the cold. I'm from the, Midwest. It's basically cold from October to, May. Last year it was still 30 degrees in, June! We get all the weather. Tornadoes, earthquakes, thunderstorms, sleet, snow, hail etc..hell I've seen it do four of those things in one damn day. It's always windy, and there's nothing to do. I really get where he's coming from. Lol
Jim Kelly was such a class guy, just as good at times as Elway and Marino. 4 straight AFC crowns. 4 straight SB's . Think his toughness and decision making really helped the Bills get there. And the likes of Bruce Smith, Cornelius Bennett, Andre Reed and Thurman Thomas helped. How's he doing these days, heard he had throat cancer. Again, Kelly came from the great QB in 1983.
People asking how the Bills lost four straight Super Bowls? Look at this man right here look at his stats one of the main reasons why we lost four straight Super Bowls is because of the way he performed
The lost to 3 really good teams. If they played the 49ers of that era they still would’ve lost. The top AFC teams were behind in overall coaching and defense.
@@jonmolina948They might’ve beaten the 49ers in 92-93. The 49ers weren’t overly great those two years. The Bills went into candlestick park and beat the 49ers in 1992.
Yeah, cuz he was on his ass and under constant pressure in 3/4 of those Super Bowls. The Bills line play on both sides of the ball is why they lost the last three Super Bowls. Look at Thurman Thomas’s stats as well in the last three Super Bowl losses. Give Kelly and Thomas the lines Emmitt and Aikman had and they win all four.
Works pretty good for you though didn't it Jimmy? City embraced you gave you a lot of money in which you have not paid back what about that night club you once owned in the Main Place Mall?
Tampa? Steve Young was there. Steve went 3-16 as a starter in Tampa. They were a terrible franchise back then. So bad, Steve wanted out and he got traded to San Francisco for two pucks a 2nd and 4th and then backed up Joe Montana for three years.
See I’d agree if not for one thing ALL of the Best player would got to one team. That would lead to a lot of wasted careers (which if you haven’t noticed it’s what’s happening now, even with the draft).
@@kghostthegreat no they would not. A team only signs 2 or 3 quarterbacks a year and has a salary cap but that's irrelevant. It's against every HR rule I know of.
Seems to me it worked out well for all parties involved in the long run with Jim Kelly signing with the Houston Gamblers. For Kelly, it allowed him to play immediately and develop on a professional level. If he had signed with Buffalo, he would have sat behind veteran Joe Ferguson. Kelly also had the opportunity to develop as a passer in the run and shoot. At the same, time Buffalo was going 2-14 in 84 and 85 so it might not have been the best environment for a young QB. When the USFL folded, the Bills had a more polished rookie QB. Also, Kelly's experience in the R&S would serve him well running the K-Gun that got the Bills to the Super Bowl.
The k gun stem from the run and shoot offense..on difference is in the 4th wr is a TE in da k gun...alot of the passing concepts and principles are simliar
I'd forgotten how much shade he threw at us - "Would you rather play for Houston or Buffalo, I'll stop right there" 😠😠😠 very glad Josh Allen had no such qualms and will lead the Bills where Kelly never could
The USFL was awesome. Some groundbreaking offensive styles It was great back then. Having both leagues. When the NFL was worth a crap. The NFL has been an unwatchable product for years now. Supposedly the USFL is coming back. Hope they fit in the Gamblers somehow. Dope uniforms and logos. One of the best in the history of the game.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sg_Xj8D4wpc.html Look at the 2:02 mark on the linked video. This narrative about Bills Mafia only being white people is foolishness and not sure where it started. Because Bruce Smith met some racists in a bathroom in 1991 ? This is a franchise that had Marlin Briscoe and Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel as QB's.
It's been written out of history in Buffalo, but Kelly wasn't well-liked when he finally came to Buffalo, after all this had happened, then he went 10-18 in his first two seasons (not counting the strike games) with less than impressive numbers. He was getting booed in those days (watch the first half of game 6 of his 3rd season vs. The Colts to hear him being roundly booed at home in Buffalo - I was there.) Ironically, that was the very game where Kelly-Thomas-Reed was truly born, and they went on to win that one.
I don't think it's been written out. His first years of growing pains NFL ball have been overshadowed by his Super Bowl run of the early 90s and K-Gun offense. His mediocre QB play was still greater than the mid-80s Bills. When he signed in 1986, there was a rush on Bills tickets the next day.
Banana Joe that nightclub he own owned in the Main Place Mall he's stiffed a lot of people all those Mercy flights were all paid for other than Jim Kelly as well
Bills played their HOME games in another Country a couple times a year for a some seasons about 10 years ago. Idiot drunks not knowing how to behave destroying property, racist slurs being shouted like its a bodily function by the overrated bills mafia. Yeah that's some great culture there. I loved it when the fans didn't show up wanting the bills to move, those were great times
I saw Jim play for the Houston Gamblers, in that run and shoot offense. He was incredible. It was like watching a young Joe Namath, only Jim was healthy below the waste, and he could move.
@@RichV20 I will say during his early years when he decided to run it was surprising. He had some speed. Nothing crazy obviously. In his later years though..not so much. Lol
@@andyc9979Yep, Jim could move pretty well for a few years. His arm was a cannon back in them days. His legs started taking major hits in 1992 in the season finale at Houston, and then a few weeks later in the Super Bowl vs Dallas he suffered that game ending same leg injury. Dallas went for his legs. John Randle of the Minnesota Vikings put a cheap shot on Kelly’s knee in 1994 ending his season and the drive for five. Jim had some moments in 1995, but he was never the same. By 1996 it was clear Jim had no legs under him anymore and Jim retired.
Those Bills Teams were awesome but Buffalo as a state sucks (with all due respect). They should be glad that for 4 consecutive years, the Bills made them, at the very most, the 2nd most important place in the world in the NFL...
First, don't knock your own mom down. You never know when you get something you don't want. Lol. Second off, though, is to learn that just because it's something you don't want does not mean it's not best for you.
Now it’s impossible for him to leave the city of Buffalo. Despite not winning a Super Bowl here in Buffalo he means more to this city than anyone could ever imagined. He’s so well loved here in Buffalo that it’s mind boggling and his two beautiful daughters are as die hard Bills fans as this great QB was. He doesn’t have the Kelly club suites named after him for no reason. He’s been through hell and back but his toughness, determination and his faith with God and support of the fans get him through the rough times.
I'm a Chicago Bears fan and have nothing but Respect for Jim Kelly. I was at his HOF induction because my family went there for Dan Hampton's and they were the same class
sean cotter my dad lives in Rockford Illinois and is a huge Bears fan. I have respect for that organization as well as I went to the Bears vs Bills game in 2014. That was the most fun away game I’ve ever been too. That stadium and fan base was phenomenal.
