@qamp749 currently we have domes built in Europe, we have just launched in the states, the first to be put up on the states will be in Florida, Illinois and maybe California. The race is on to see which is built first. If everything goes to plan the domes in Florida and North Illinois will be started in about 2 to 3 months
@@gaiadomesolutions ok nice. How does it go against the cold weather? I know in the hot weather they will do great because of the airflow and fire resistant but how well does it do in a cold environment and wet environment?
@qamp749 Hempcrete is a great insulator and can help lower electric/gas bills. Both for heating and cooling. It has a great R-VALUE rating for local code needs similar to any standard insulation. Moisture regulation is better than a standard home, as Hempcrete is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs and releases moisture to regulate humidity levels. And does not mold, condensate and etc Noise reduction: Hempcrete is quiet and can help reduce exterior and interior noise. Better than standard insulation Resilience: Hempcrete is more resilient to the elements than many other traditional building materials. And will last longer. In fact, hemp also gets stronger the older it gets, and hemp structures are known to last hundreds of years
@lovebriget3663 that is a large question and volumes could be written on the advantages and disadvantages and pro and con of each. First, both are fairly easy to build with. Next, Hempcrete is not load baring where aircrete could be. Both are resistant to fire and pests. Both can be formed into many shapes and colors. But hemp has a few extra advantages, it is a carbon sequester and pulls in more carbon than it emits, it is also a Moisture regulating: Hempcrete is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs and releases moisture to regulate humidity levels. So it is better for regulation of humidity than aircrete. Noise reduction: Hempcrete is quiet and can help reduce exterior and interior noise. Where concrete of all types bounce sounds, hemp absorbs sounds. Hemp is more sustainable and does not require chemicals to grow, build or maintain. Concrete is much harsher on your health and the planet. Hemp can be grown and turned into hempCrete every 120 to 180 days, year round. In the end hempcrete is the winner with even much more to say about it. But aircrete has made many wonderful things. Our primary focus is hemp but one day we may use aircrete as well.
What a great interview, scott. Anita has so many interesting things to say and add to the conversation. What a background! Wishing her well on her adventure on her land and what she wants to do with it all. Looking forward to seeing her again in the near future.
As world we complain about our massive CO2 output however when there was dinosaurs on earth the CO2 was higher and hemp uses CO2 to grow and replaces the CO2 with oxygen. The governments are destroying the planet by forbidding our hemp growing. Yet they allow most things that create CO2 yet the only thing they care about is money ie pay $20 to offset your carbon emissions. Bastards

Scott, This was an absolutely awesome video interview! You had my full attention all the way through it. I was fascinated at the end when River discussed the rainforest stain and the mountain sealant! I had always intended on using hemp wood in my dome so I appreciate having so much more knowledge about it now. Thank you, scott, and also to your guest, River.
@@gaiadomesolutions I would love to make hemp cement dome homes, one of my dreams! Frank was ahead of his time! House on the rock is captivating and futuristic, still, time has not yet caught up with his achievements. Do you build?
@jonisolis9645 there are a few ways, but the safest abs healthiest option we have is a cashew shell sealer that can be used which can completely seal and clear coat or you can add coloring to the sealer for what ever color you want. Lastly, you can sheath it like a normal home.
When I win the lottery I will be in touch. Renting a caravan atm wondering how anyone can afford to build their own home in the current times we're facing.
@Gotchalol-u7s costs vary depending on what you want to make it look like. Things like, what size do you want, how fast do you want it, do you want the hempcrete insulation, will you build yourself vs others building it for you. Do you have land already, do you want the smooth look or a shingled look, do you want an off grid package or standard and etc. That stated, they can go from about $100k all in up to about $260 all in. They could go for more again depending on many factors and maybe even less than $100k of you were real frugal
Scott do you feel spraying is better than hand? I'm sure it's less labor intensive and faster but are there benefits to doing it by hand vs spraying? Does it have impact on the benefits or structure?
@t.j.7451 the jury is out on whether it's stronger blown vs hand packed. Some say if blown properly and completely it could be. As for me, I'll likely lay mine by hand. The reason is, once it dries it leaves a beautiful pattern. I plan on exposing it to the inside of my dome so we can see this pattern. Once exposed I'll seal it with a lime sealer and it'll look amazing. Blown hempcrete does not leave this same pattern.
Working hard to get my bus ready to go off the grid again this winter… it was a tough one last year… the pups were big troopers and we learned great lessons. I miss the Florida winters, but we really wanted to get out of our comfort zone to learn new skills and face new challenges.
I have been looking for a product and community just like yours. After living around a few countries and having an awesome Tribe, we truly understand the value of what you are creating. Hempcrete has been a passion, and we would love to collaborate. How can we connect? Massive congrats for the great work. We need this more than ever✌🏼😊🌈🌎🧡
@Martinn959 yes, you can use whatever insulation base you desire. The kits we sell come with wood wool as the original insulator but that can be replaced with anything you want.
These Domes you build are absolute bueaty. I am getting one of these for sure. Exactly the curvy flowing structure I require to get my mind outta these boxes, squares, and coronors most structures are created from.
@KoRtZ3 if you go to our gallery, you'll see that even our interiors are rounded, with a little imagination you can turn clay plaster into anything you want, gaiadomesolutions.com/en/gallery/ when you're ready we can help your dream become a reality
This is what I’ve been looking for for two years. A small community of dome homes where people live not as air BnB entrepreneurs but dwelling in the dome homes with others doing the same thing nearby. I am struggling to find where to buy land to do what you are doing but I don’t want to live in the middle of nowhere far away from any one. Can you share your thoughts?
@savethecoconutgroveplayhou548 well, land closer to society will cost you more but if you're willing to pay the price I'm sure you can make it happen. As for me, I prefer the quietness of rural places. Depending on where you live will determine prices and availability. We live in Florida and will be building a larger dome on our land, communities of domes will come from us very soon
@Alle8ia they can be used as extra rooms or additions to a home, they can be a stand alone tiny home as some people love. These particular units are being built inside of a vacation resort area as rooms for people who are visiting.
Awesome stuff, Made a year around green house out of hemp here in central Oregon. Was able to survive 20 below freezing pretty easily with just 1 heater. Plan on using geothermal and or sand battery for future builds. Would love to try a dome next. Love the stuff and it is the future no doubt. The fact it is fireproof as well is underrated especially in my area where fires are a yearly occurrence.
I have always wanted to build a dome house out of Willow here in the UK. Hemp seems to be quicker grower and a more sustainable resource yielding more than one product from each grow.
@loftninefivefour4611 the cost estimate depends on several factors, such as how much DIY you do vs hiring someone, how elaborate you make it, where you purchase the items for it and etc. That stated, I have the estimate for the one in the picture. The labor cost about $61k and the materials cost about $140k Furthermore, that one was created by a professional builder and they did not look for inexpensive alternatives items to build it. But, another way to look at this is while I'm building mine (starting in about 2 to 3 months) I'll be doing most of the work myself to keep the labor cost down (I'm hoping to keep labor cost between $10k to $15k) and I'm going to try to keep the materials cost down to $80k to $90k. These are all estimates but should give you a general idea. Thanks
