The fucking dread watching this, how could they have ruined this storyline? I think they introduced the army of the dead too early. They just kept dragging it out. But this episode was so good
Yara, Ellaria and Olenna were right. Shock and awe was the play here. She should've marched on King's Landing immediately. Cersei would've been forced to pull troops back to defend the capital. Olenna would've had time to rally the Reach's army to press Casterly Rock and any retreat back to the Westerlands. Ellaria would've had time to rally the Dornish army to march North to hold her positions in the South while she marched North to help Jon. That's the logical thing to have done here. Had she pressed the attack, Jamie and Cersei wouldn't have had time to rally support from the Reach and coordinate as effectively as they did in countering their movements. Who TF was going to rally to Cersei's side "because of foreigners"?! The only Westerosi leaders with intact armies left aside from the Lannisters were literally IN THIS ROOM. The Vale was in the North, allied to Jon via Sansa's proxy. The Stormlands and Riverlands didn't even have armies left at this point. This is why she needed Jorah or Barristan at her side still. She needed a capable tactical advisor with knowledge of Westeros, not a political advisor.
Crazy part is she didn’t even have to destroy the entirety of King’s Landing to take the iron throne. This was way before any of Cersei’s real army was amassed. She could have easily broken down the gates, marched her way through King’s Landing with her armies, Drogon, and Rhaegal, AND Vyserion in tow and just taken the throne from Cersei. Who would have possibly tried to stop her? The common people never would have dared. Most of Cersei’s army would have immediately given up once they saw the power Dany held. And even if they fought, they would have lost. And she could have done it all before the Night King ever showed up on Winterfell’s doorstep and kept all three of her dragons. But instead, she chose to listen to a man who had openly stated how much better suited he was at politics than war.
This scene blows. It's meant to wrap up the fact that the Brotherhood sold an innocent kid to be sacrificed, and due to creative bankruptcy, that kid is now fighting alongside those same people who sold him. It's not "hehe grow a pair, we're all hard men", it's "none of this makes any sense and is uttery dumb", AKA Game of Thrones.
I don't get it. The entire war was to get lyanna back. When it actually came to retrieving her, robert was like "nah, too bothersome. Ned go get lyanna with these 4 other lads. Watch out for arthur dayne tho"
Whenever i see scenes like this and in the earlier seasons, i find it truly incredible the potential the showrunners wasted on this series by the end. A show that could have stood the test of time had its last 2 or 3 seasons completely unravel the years a build-up and cultural relevance. Only to be left with something people would rather forget and move on with.
Theon is sooking because he didnt know forsaking all his oaths to house stark and robb, capturing and destroying his home where he grew up, r*aping and murdering everyone there was the wrong step. Worst writing ever.
It’s a great scene but they really jumped the gun I think. For some reason, the writers pulled out almost every trick they had up their sleeve in the last two episodes of season six and left themselves with nothing to work with in the last two seasons. That’s partly why the last two seasons sucked.
I like how Theon kinda smile after Jon walks away at the end there. It's like he's simultaneously recognizing that Jon effectively called him his brother, and right away his brother is giving him shit like a good brother does, and I feel like he appreciates it, cause you could see in season 1 how much he enjoyed shit-talking with the other guys.
A siege would have starved the population and caused it to slowly rot. They should have taken the city directly. The Golden Cloaks' loyalty could have been bought with the threat of the dragons and they could have opened the gates to Dany's armies, or used the secret passages beneath the Red Keep to break into the city, as Dany did. made in Essos. Tyrion, you screwed up. Olenna Tyrell would have made a better Hand of the Queen.
