I liked and subscribed. I forgot how to do it and clicked on this link because it was short. This was explained more simply than I've seen it before and shown so simply that I know I will remember it in the future. The other videos on this channel look interesting too. I'm going to try the pinafore apron next. :D
I love this!! I have a dress that Is a 50s style tea length bridal gown but I had to have it so I'm dying it pink!!! For a confectionary dream dress ^-^
Whoo Nice! :D That looks like one epic pirate outfit! I will always have a weak point for them poofie sleeves, but those pants are not wrong either! (also really loved the last short combined with the music, that was a great moment of editing 👍)
This was suuper helpful and very good explained! One of the most basic skills that might be often overlooked because 'everyone knows it right?' Thank you for providing such a short but to the point tutorial! Your filming is also very good, it was very easy to follow and see what you were doing. 10/10 love it!
Thank you very much! This was one of those skills that I had never even heard of when I first started historical work, but it has quickly become indispensable. I’m glad you found this video useful!
I’m glad you were able to figure it out!! I don’t know what on earth I did wrong to end up with such a wonky first try, but it was probably my bad for sure. I was just grateful someone was able to help me fix it lol
Love this! ❤️ I want to find a fabric mystery box now lol. Usually if I have a fabric that I wouldn’t use for clothing I’ll make little handy sewing projects like pin cushions, pattern weights, ironing board covers, etc. There’s a lot of cute ideas for stuff like that on Pinterest. 😄
Got a pirate (folklore outfit) shirt given to me at the beginning of the 70s. In linen. Loved it and used it as much as possible for about 10 years. It got lost in a move. Longed for it since. Now I've decided to make 5 and never loose one again. :)
My local RCC (Resource and Crisis Center) thrift store! I recommend finding the small, church-operated thrift shops that get donations from an older crowd. They often have vintage fabric that families will donate when cleaning out Grandma’s house to move her to a care home or something
I had the exact same issue with my pirate shirt I made using Bernadette’s video! I made the armscye bigger so that part was fine, but I actually cut the shirt like 2 inches in from the side seam all the way up and I’m gonna put in a new center panel and collar with adjusted ruffles. I turned the original center bit into a tank top for sleeping
I'm now dreaming of making my own pirate core stuff...I want to make a jumper that I can wear everyday but still has the vibes (just add tricorn hat vibes 🙃)
I am very new in the whole historical clothing thing, but started out as a cosplayer and try to incorportate those two. I am now reworking the shift of Hiccup (from the first How to train your dragon movie) with all the techniques I picked up to make it a more authentic viking look. I used both Bernadette Banners and Morgan Donner's video's on respectively the pirate shirt and the shift 👌 I love that there are so many tutorials out there now, since if I do not understand a certain step, I can use multiple sources and examples 💙
@@littleleftie8891 oh my gosh, I love that film! A historically accurate interpretation would be really cool to see. Have you found Elin Abrahamsson yet? She is, I believe, Swedish and does loads of research to do historical garments from her own country, since of course, most tend to be English or French.
You really worked so hard at this & it paid off in the lovely fit ( I relate to the late nights trying to finish!) and great save with the ruffle, it looks so beautiful x
Your channel is absolutely amazing and I want you to know that! Thank you for bringing up valuable points about how we can make the world a better place and create a healthier life for everyone!
Not really a thrift find, but when I got into sewing, a coworker gave me her deceased mother's fabric, the local theater company cleaned out their storage and gave me fabric, and my boyfriend gave me A BOLT OF MUSLIN that he had for whatever reason! I still have a lot left!
Ommmggg!! I’m salivating over your plaid/tweed/wools!! That last one 😍 I said, “Wow. Gorgeous” out loud lol! Love love love! Can’t wait to see all your makes!
That looks like a great haul! I love it when you have those amazing thrifting moments. My most recent was when I got sent 80 POUNDS of vintage sewing patterns. It was absolutely a mind blowing moment.
