Hi friends! My name is Axel, I do my best to make educational content through the media we all love! I'll be talking about Anime, Manga, Comics, Cartoons, Movies and More as we look at History, How To Write Stories, and anything else that peaks my interest! I hope you enjoy your stay here!
I'm sorry, but this video is both extremely specific and way too broad, and it's worse when a character should fit a different protagonist type far more, a type you set the definition for yourself.
Love this video! I struggle with the complexity of characters within stories especially when I feel like I want to write my own. Thank you for breaking everything down in a clear and informative way. Best to you, Professor Axel XD and hope you are doing well doing whatever creative projects you are engaging in next.
Havent watched yet but first thoughts based on the thumbnail and and scrolling through the chapters is: I'm surprised by a lack of Tanjiro. I feel he's a great way to do a chosen one (especially with the subversion of Tanjiro not being THE chosen one but more of a chosen one) and an underdog at the same time. Edit: I must have missed him in the chapters unless you updated it. I didnt see it the first time. Looking at this character from the quintessential good guy lens is accurate but i feel its a bit surface level for his character. I look forward to watching the demon slayer deep dive.
I did discuss tanjiro, though in another section. I tried not to repeat characters - that said, i don't believe he is a chosen one character and I discussed that in my demon slayer deep dive video
@@AxelBeats ill check that video out later and see if you change my mind. I still think hes chosen in the sense that everyone puts him into that role except for the universe/plot itself. Edit after watching the chosen one segments I feel like alot of what you say about Deku is applicable to Tanjiro. Tanjiro is constantly pushing himself to be as good as "The Chosen One" and even has been given all the same tools. He has the earings, the black blade, the mark, sun breathing, inherited memories of being taught straight from the original chosen one, fights against a faux representation of the chosen one in order to get as good as him. His family has knowledge of the blue spider lily and his family has the ability to defeat the sun. Even Muzan chooses him in multiple different ways. There comes a point where the distinction is the only difference and I would argue that Tanjiro is a Chosen One in every way that matters except the one semantic that defines the title. Can't wait to see if you touch on this in the deep dive.
@@edgeelric4245 looking forward to your thoughts on it! Sorry in advanced for how long that video is aha if it helps, i think it's the best video i've made at least lol
I feel like Mashima gets way too much hate for doing stuff most authors do. He creates solid works and sure he relies alot on tropes but literally all shoneun rely on some trope.
I have always considered Angel Beats as my motivation to break through moments where I felt like a loss something important in my life. I want to continue to live my life so that those who live with regrets can realize that they can find the will to live on and find redemption based on the example of the life that they love for themselves. Thank you for sharing your experience with Angel Beats because it was similar to mine.
It’s more like a multi chapter fanfiction than anything. especially with Sesshomaru having children by Rin, them bringing back some random ass prophecy from the Shikon Jewel. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t mention Kagome being Kikyos reincarnation more.
Everytime I see topics like this I hope someone talks about Mitsuru Adachi, who isn't as popular, but has been doing this since way back, and I love it because he can show various character dynamics, that may not be possible in an specific set up, like two character archetypes being besties in one series and enemies in another, or having a peaceful life in one and big tragedies in another and seeing both versions on an interesting character is cool to me, I love it, this play on characters and interactions, sometime a story won't allow some characters to interact and I sometimes wish and wonder how two characters may interact if they could.
1:18:55 This video came out forever ago but I do find a problem with the statement that Sakura's personality is shown through her substitution jutsu and therefore she is not interesting because it's something that everyone already knows how to do. Mentioning the Yamanaka clan's mind control, the Nara clan's shadow possesion, and the Akimichi clan's expansion jutsu in comparison to Sakura's non-existent clan ability is just so dirty. As you yourself said she is just the simplelest character with no especial abilities, the closest one to compare to probably Rock Lee yet we ignore that Rock Lee has had at least one year under Might Guy who definitely favors him and trains him day and night for him to become as talented as he is. Sakura on the other hand has been with her new teacher for mere months and I could count on one hand the amount of jutsus and skills Kakashi has taught ANY of them besides morals. Kakashi is a shit teacher that only ever taught Sasuke the chidori and did a vague class on chakra control early on. OF COURSE the only thing she knows how to do is the basic skills taught to her at the academy. She doesn't have the chakra reserves, she doesn'y have the clan ability, and she sure as hell doesn't have a mentor (yet) to teach her anything else.
I was searching for the new one piece game, "one piece odyssey" and thjs came up for obvious reasons, i was pleasantly surprised, this is so well edited!
in the original series Inuyasha beats sesshomaru twice, once when Sesshomaru got off guard and lost his arm and again caught off guard with the wind scar, THATS it, any other time they fought he absolutely destroyed Inuyasha, what do you mean most of their fights? in their second fight Inuyasha was out and his sword just built a barrier around him so Sesshomaru could not finsih the job, When Sesshomaru got tokijin they took Inuyasha away and ran, then when Inuyasha was a demon sessh got him to stop moving so they can get his sword back to him, and on and on and on - i dont think they fought ever after Sesshomaru got his new sword or am i wrong?
Another thing that breaks the criticism of "mashima is lazy"/ "mashima plagairized from himself" is the fact that its the same artist working alone. Of course the style is going to be more or less consistent.
As a fellow necromancer myself, this is by far my most favorite anime of all time, ever. As far as his development goes, I'm not sorry that he becomes as powerful as he does. The world around him had its chance to be kind and forgiving when he was kind, caring, and creative. And that version of him essentially DIED, alone, in a dungeon. Nah this is earned. The world can deal with what is now a shadow monarch. I hope he rules the fricken world.
As an aspiring manga artist who's been working a ton on creating interesting characters lately, There is nothing lazy about Mashima Sensei's designs. Haru, Natsu and Shiki literally have completely distinct personalities and outfits specific to the fashion of the era their stories take place in. People really don't understand how difficult it is to accomplish that. Even though One Piece, My Hero and Black Clover sit above his works on my list, he is in my opinion undefeated when it comes to creating enjoyable protagonists and interesting costume designs that fit so well in the fictional worlds he builds. At best he's a genius at worst he has "Same Face Syndrome".
I think there's also something to be said about it being an intentional choice. This isn't someone who ran out of ideas and so he used old designs. It's someone who actively chose to make similar designs for a few main characters and then built the entire rest of the world with new and imaginative concepts
You forgot to put Robin aka Ms. All-Sunday and Sanji in Whole Cake Island Arc since you put Usopp on your tier list. Also what about Marine Lieutenant Commander Double Ironfist" Fullbody who a minor antagonist during the Baratie and Arabasta Arcs....... Spandam is a big threat and was the cause in Frankie and Iceburg tragic backstory framing Tom's Workers for a bombing attack on Water 7, by using Frankie's ships which caused Tom to take responsibility and be executed. For revenge Frankie disfigure his face... I don't know why you put Garp on the villains tier list when he clearly didn't do anything villainous😂 lol. To be honest Akainu is so evil and deadly he even killed his own man for not participating in the fight.
I don't think Junko was made to represent mental illness at all. I feel like the all her "craziness" is directly link to her boredom with life and people. Why would someone that hate rationality act consistant or "normal"? not only that but part of the act is her trying to inflict despair on herself as well (that's why she is seen repeatedly trying and succeeding at killing her sister, she loves her but is so bored with life that she is completely ready to experience despair herself). Honestly i don't think she's mentally ill per say, but rather she's a character so analytic and so bored that she is looking for entertainment no matter the cost. And let's not forget that in this universe, people LOVE her and also seek the enjoyment of feeling and watching despair to the point they willingly signe up for a virtual and filmed version of the killing game. She lives in a world that to some degree is just as crazy as she is (of course with a big part of it being due to her manipulating everyone)
Thank you for your video I'm actually a English learner your video so interesting and useful i learn a lot from your video My English so suck hope you guys can understand it
