Interdisciplinary. Inclusive. Collaborative. Global. Public.

The Humanities Research Center provides a forum for intellectual exchange across and beyond the humanities at VCU, traversing conventional disciplinary boundaries and encouraging collaboration and humanistic inquiry throughout the College of Humanities and Sciences as well as across the university as a whole and the local community.

Rob Roy Kelly was a nightmare to study under. In the eighties, he would only come to class to take roll, then hide in his office where he chain smoked all day. Students would have to hunt him down to get a critique on their work. If you were able to find him for feedback on your work, he would sit there with a cigarette dangling from his lips dropping ashes on your work, but giving you NO feedback. All of his students were basically "flying blind" because he never gave any instruction, only criticism. And his criticism was non-constructive and only critical. He also had other instructors (in the cult of Kelly) tell us he "was a gem!" and that we were "lucky to have him" and we should be "grateful." It was miserable! When he left the university, his filthy office was cleaned out and it was disgusting, walls were stained from smoke and it reeked. All in all, the years spent studying under this man were a waste of time and a miserable experience. I know I'm not alone in saying that I wish I had those years back and all my tuition dollars back. All Kelly did was rest on the laurels of that dang book to keep his professorships and it was his students who paid for it. Decades on, I want a refund!

You know what Danielle. Perhaps your original title "The Parenting Myth" might have attracted the attention of the buyers more than the present title "The Child Code". Especially the word "parenting" is a catchword. Anyway, I hope it will be a bestseller. If not now, I'm pretty confident it will be sometime in the future. 👍❤
