The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) works to advance the expertise of clinical laboratory professionals who, as integral members of interprofessional healthcare teams, deliver quality, consumer-focused, outcomes-oriented clinical laboratory services through all phases of the testing process to prevent, diagnose, monitor, and treat disease. The Society promotes high standards of practice by holding the profession accountable to a Code of Ethics, through dissemination of knowledge at educational programs, and through publications; maintains a supportive community to advocate on behalf of current and future laboratory professionals; and provides laboratory professionals a voice to legislators and regulators through collective, grassroots efforts.
Hi I am Golam Kobir. I Completed Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technologist. So I looking For a Job. If Any Vacancies You Can Contact Me. I am From India .
true Medical Lab technicians are very important healthcare workers yet still underpaid but work is extremely demanding long working hrs coz there are few of them since it's not informed very well in our youth but Pharmacy and Medicine and other health care proffessions are paid more and recognised 💔it is a fun n very crucial part of health but still under looked underoaid and not recognised as important as other health care proffession that is the bad thing in almost many countries 💔
this is an excellent discussion; the panel of lab professionals was very informative; Charnae Jones gave some very detailed and informative answers that seemed very progressive, and honest, especially about staffing; one of the concerns that seems to not be addressed well, is the visibility and staffing; recruiting to schools seems unrealistic, because many colleges have an issue trying to place students for clinical rotations; hospitals do not have enough staff to accommodate students or newly hired laboratorians where it concerns training; having enough staff that can dedicate time to training is essential to the profession; many labs try to shy away from the understaffing issue, but it is affecting many aspects of the lab profession;

Good morning, How will you secure a job in the US after getting your ASCPi exam? Second, do you need to write IELTS, for International MLS to get a job in the USA? THANKS.
Props to Kelsey for all of the wonderful info! You covered most of the questions that I've had. Curious as to why all of the other people were in the video?

With the permission of all the Practitioners that participated in the Chat; Let's do some analysis about the question of which Program is more "valuable"? I really believe that the difference lies more in the personal purposes of each person and the point where you are, professionally; In other words, where do I want to go now with my career and what opportunities does one program or another to offer to me? But, there are definitely limitations that are beyond our control, and that are related to your age, your financial conditions, the admission process for the DCLS itself, and I am going to make a separate analysis here, that I think is important to express. The admission process for the DCLS already begins, certainly discriminatory, with the requirement of the National Certification by ASCP.? Where are those of us who having a National Certification from another Agency? That point is highly contradictory. You can have all the certifications that you want to have from ASCP, but you will definitely not be able to stand next to a technologist with 20 years of experience (in any area) with a non-ASCP certification !!!!. If we add to the above, that this Technologist has Supervisory experience and it is a CAP Inspector; So let's stop the discussion here because it doesn't make any sense to continue (at least for me). The top of the discussion (without going into analyzing salaries and how you will be hired) comes with NO recognition by CLIA, to be a Laboratory Director, if you are not a PhD, Board Certified; or a Medical Doctor? And again we are talking about the recognition of the Profession in the area of the Clinical Laboratory (no wonder we have such a shortage nationwide). To supervise the use of tests, and to advocate for patients to be well treated and in a safe way, we don't need to spend that resources and years, in a DCLS. Thanks, RA
Thank you for this forum. Its great to hear your legislative actions as far as medical laboratory professional workforce shortage. Our National organization, the Philippine Association of Medical Laboratory Technoligists (PAMET-USA, Inc.) Is advocating for an action to address this critical issue. The Blood Bank tests the patient's blood for antibodies that would destroy incompatible blood units provided to the patient through transfusion. Chemistry tests the patient's liquid portion of the blood for proteins, lipids, and sugars that indicate the functionality of the patient's vital organs. Coagulation tests the liquid portion of the patient's blood for the quantity and quality of various proteins that enable a patient to heal by clotting. Hematology tests the patient's whole blood for the quantity and functionality of his or her blood cells thereby indicating the overall health of the patient. Microbiology isolates pathogens from patient samples and identifies the most effective medicine to give the patient. There are many other areas and specialties within the medical laboratory. Being part of the medical laboratory is exciting because you use science everyday to heal people! We are the first ones to know why the patient is ill and we get to provide that information to other healthcare teams members so the patient can receive the most effective and efficient care! Check out my RU-vid channel if you would like to see a behind the scenes look at the work we do and why it matters! Hope this helps!

What new career prospects and advancement opportunities are opening up for MLS in the US, especially with the DCLS degree? Popular opinion is that MLS pay is not comparable to other baccalaureate level health professions. How can this get better? Emmanuel Omoviye MLS, from Nigeria.
