Hello, how can I take care of the battery? Is it better to fully charge/discharge the battery or should I charge it when it reaches 60%, 50% or some other mark?
This STILL didnt answer my question, can we choose what percentage of charge we want and will the volt automatically STOP charging and drawing current when it reaches that level? I have heard charging to 100% every charge may be harmful for EV batteries. Does the same hold true for these smaller capacity batteries in the Volt? But most importantly, since I am planning to get the level 2 charger installed at my home, do I have to “babysit” it and unplug to stop the charging when it reaches capacity, or can I rest at night knowing it “auto” shut off and simply disconnect when I awake?
The Volt does not charge to 100%. It will charge to about 80% max when it's "fully" charged. It also doesn't deplete to 0%. The battery is "empty" around 20% charge. So fully charging or depleting will not harm the Volt thanks to the built in buffer. The manual also recommends keeping the Volt plugged in, even when fully charged. This helps the vault to regulate the high voltage battery temperature at all times prolonging its life.
If after 2016, it's based on GPS/memory if you set it multiple times when you are home. If between 2013-2015 there is no way to change the default. Gen1 pre 2013 models are physical switch on the charger itself.
If you want a car that is almost impossible to work on then a Lumina is the car for you. Mine is a '97 w/ side mounted v6. You can't even see the back 3 spark plugs, much less get to them. It has a "replace engine light" instead of an oil pressure gauge, and the battery which is buried beneath the windshield washer fluid tank, has side terminals. I've never seen so many bad designs in one car before.
