One thing I think is worth mentioning is that there are (if I'm remembering right) eleven spirits, but you get the quest to take Stella and Daffodil to the Everdoor after eight spirits pass through it. I remember my first time playing this game, I wanted to make sure *everything* was in order before I took Stella and Daffodil. Almost like I wasn't ready to accept it. But that quest was always there, looming over me. Inevitable, like death itself. It's a very subtle way to get the message across that death is a part of us. That it's not something you can avoid. At least, not forever. So once I got all my quests done, I made sure I had no more tasks being done (like in the mill or food being cooked), gave all my memories one last hug, asked Buck to take care of the boat, and bawled my eyes out when Stella and Daffodil finally allowed themselves to rest. It still gets me bawling every time. I do struggle with the concept of death, but this game has helped with that a lot. I know it won't get easier for a while, since I'm still in my 20s, but I think I'm better equipped for it later in life because of this game. Thank you for the fantastic video on this beautiful piece of art!
Just finished streaming this game yesterday and I swear I was connecting dots after dots the whole way through and it felt amazing! I was just uncovering truths and mysteries back to back, game had me hooked until the end… the ending was insane, I didn’t know how to process it so I’m watching iceberg explanations of the game 😂
im not convinced this is all there is to see at a recent game showcase thing, there was a slight teaser viewed which was clearly outer wilds. i don't know if its anything, or pointing to another dlc, or a sequel. but its something and i can't wait to hear more
I never put it together that the first death was BECAUSE of the stowaway! I thought it was a genuine accident. Appart from the two crew mates in a bitter cold, all the deaths are from either human greed, ignorance, or vengeance. No I stand corrected, poor guy who got shocked by lightning.
Elizabeth is not a construct, she was born. If we accept that by the end of "infinite" the timeline aplit was prevented, but a "god" Elizabeth remained, living outside of time, then we must accept that she was born. Therefor, there has to be a Booker, or a Comstock. In fact, to avoid another split, Elizabeth must loose her goddly status and die, or better, never had existed. Burial at sea, to me, is just the philosopical real close for the loop. Neither Comstock, nor Elizabeth nor Booker can exist.
Played all 3 as a kid and played them again, the remaster versions, this year and Bioshock 2 is infinitely more playable imo. The mechanics are worlds better plus the action has topped the 1st as well. Now the B1 was great as it was new and discovering the world of Rapture was fantastic, but as a shooter B2 is so much better. The DLC Minerva's Den is a lot of fun too in the remastered version...with a great story. I find myself playing B2 for shits and giggles or to burn some downtime which I don't with the other two games. I suggest playing it again if you have not I think it might grow on you. Solid vid btw.
Interesting. I have never seen anyone take the one and the other as purely metaphorical. To me they are very literal. There is no Marissa. At least not anymore. The one has eaten her, quite literally.
Generally a pretty good synopsis but I have couple of bones to pick. You start out saying the characters have no depth or background, but this simply isn't true. In the memories and dialogs you can certainly make out relationships and traits. For instance, the friendship of the three midshipmen, or the bold sacrifices of many of the crew, such as the carperters, or moments of cowardice, such as the second mate, Nichols. These moments most definitely give personality and depth to these characters. Some background can also be deduced, but I generally agree little background is given. Another thing is that you claim Brennan and his crew have 'no real reason' for mutiny, which I don't agree with. Many of the group are exposed to the dangers of the shells, such as them seeing or hearing about the shells driving Filiph Dahl mad. They also think that the Captain opted to keep them rather than throwing overboard. This would be a valid reason for mutiny, as to them, the Captain is valuing the shells over the ship, which many know are valuable due to the whole Nichols situation. Lastly, I know this is super nitpicky, but despite all the Formosans being lables as royalty, I believe that only Bun-Lan Lim, and maybe It-Beng Sia, are the only actual royalty. The other two are simply guards.
Hi great video which I enjoyed. Just to say re: player choice. There are some minor in-game consequences for opting to throw the baseball at Fink instead of the couple. If you attempt to throw at Fink the couple will appear later after Battleship Bay right before the Duke & Dimwit arcade to thank you, and leave a piece of gear. In addition, if you spare Slate he will show up in one of the cells in Finkton. Also was surprised you didn’t touch on the Duke (Comstock) & Dimwit (DeWitt) parrallels - both pairs of puppets pulled around on strings with no real agency- reenacting the same show over and over again…multiple arcade machines/ multiple universes, puppet strings/strings of fate and another tease for the ending reveal “I’m both” etc Anyway going to check out your video on Bioshock 2 my favourite on the series . Hope you’re kind!
I remember seeing so many videos of people calling the strangers "owlks" or other owl + elk names... and I've only recently questioned why we name them in opposition to all other names in the game. Names in the game are given in terms of who they are... the Hearthians are a communal rustic people who gather around the hearth to share stories and findings. The Nomai are a nomadic collection of scientists driven from star to star to find new discoveries. The strangers are a religious and ambitious people who go on a pilgrimage to the eye of the universe, leaving nothing behind. I'd call the strangers something like, Pilgimites, the Refuse, or indeed the strangers... as that is what they make themselves when they become disillusioned, they astrange themselves from the rest of the system. Even the Nomai in their scattering make themselves at home in this system.
Wait the nomai are a nomadic scientific tribe so the whole species wasn’t wiped out but just the species in the outer wilds right? Or did I misunderstand the writings when I played?
First off, shave the moustache it looks stupid, stop doing the cringy teacher RP, stop stammering your words you're reading from a script and lastly get a haircut
You arrested klassje on the *second* day? You move quick. That being said, your channel deserves to be far larger. This video was tremendous, lad, well done.
I'll say this a buddy of mine tried to get me to play this game, and 1 hour in, I felt like the game was an overly pretentious psych student ego project. I have had to watch so many video essays and read so many reviews to try and understand it. I respect this game so much more now, but like so many art projects I just dont have the patience to engage with it the right way. Thank you for this it allows people like me to enjoy this masterpiece so much more.
game sucked for me the first time around. changed my character to be giga action idiot with a heart of gold and the game had me smiling the whole time through. Try changing your build to something more interesting. And don’t be afraid to skip things you aren’t interested in so you can pay attention dialogue you ARE interested in
@shadowgaleshale9218 Problem is that's over half the game and I feel like I'm punished for playing that way. I think it's definitely a me thing because I have a similar issue woth baldurs gate 3 despite loving d&d. To be honest the only crpgs I've finished are shadowrun and rougetrader. I might try you suggestion, but I'll wait for the game to go on sale had to get a new steam account due to technical issues.
I can definitely see how frustrating it would be of the ship didnt store the slide reels. Im lucky enough to be playing the game years after it came out so i can benefit from all the small updates the devs have done to the game
thank you for this, because I loved the base game but i am a verbal person I guess. because i spent 15+ hours on this dlc and could barely understand anything at all
what would've made the video so much better, if you were somehow able to cut it down to exactly 22 minutes (jk, this video is a hidden gem, i just completed the game yesterday, and holy shit is it good)
i wrote an entire academic paper on this game a few semesters ago about its portrayal of trauma in the design, story and dialogue and a lot of the sentiments you shared in this video really resonated with me! amazing watch
Everything about this game was masterpiece quality. Only, it was very difficult. Too difficult that I gave up. A part of me torns apart after watching this video because I can never experience the story firsthand again, ever. But At least I know what happened. If only this game was a little bit easy. But, Such is life. Apart from difficulty, it's a masterpiece.
Thanks for this great video! ❤ I just finished outer wilds for the first time because my boyfriend recommended it. And it was such a huge an awesome experience 🥹 I cried so hard when it ended. 😭 Your video helped to answer some questions I still had after finishing it. Hitting now for the dlc ✨
