I watched this many times before getting it. Thank you Mel. I wondered if we could have the answers pls. Also, is this speed level 2 or 3? I'm curious as I think my skills are below par really. Great opportunity to improve receptive skills with these daily videos.
@@SurviveGrowInspire Hi, thank you very much for your kind comments. I would say it is level 2 and above. For the answers there are subtitles so hopefully you should be able to see them if you switch them on.
Hi Steve, thanks for your question. Just for an example if you wanted to sign 6 O Clock, just sign 6 twice by twisting the wrist quickly, otherwise it would become 66 and use the mouth pattern 0 Clock. Hope that’s clear.
@@bsllearningwithmel4459 ok, thanks! Thanks you so much for replying. It’s so cool - I didn’t expect a reply for a video this old. Thought it was a long shot to get a reply!
Hi! Im from Argentina, been studying Sign Language for a couple of months and now Im starting BSL. I love English! 💕 thanks a lot for your great videos! They help me very much.
Thank you so much for these Mel - I know it might have been boring for you, but these videos have been SOOO helpful. Really appreciate the time you put into them. Thank you again!
This is so helpful thank you! For broke how would i know which to use? Is it based on more how its broke eg bone brokw in half, toy broke from dropping it, vs more brokwn down tv, car, oven ect?
Hi thank you. With broke for example, broken arm you could point to your arm then sign broke, like something has snapped. With something like car etc…you use clawed hands and your right hand moves down. Hopefully that’s helpful.
Good morning Mel. I am loving these videos especially the daily ones for practicing finger spelling (which I’m not very quick at but getting better) I am learning BSL at the moment via zoom call with a girl called Adel and in between lessons I try and find videos that will help me improve at each lesson. I came across yours and I’m so grateful for them. I feel I’ll be more confident with the help of your videos alongside my 1:1 sessions. 🥰 I started learning in December but knew the basics from years ago.
I feel like I’ve discovered a treasure trove! Mel you’re an amazing teacher, so grateful for all the videos. just relearning BSL and feeling a bit overwhelmed at class but found your videos and I’m so happy! Thank you ❤
Omg this is so helpful for my level 3. I’m analysing everything - nmfs, directional verbs , finger spelling , placement , trying to write out parts to id glossing. Thank you so much , so helpful 😃
Finding this really helpful with my Level 1 BSL placements and just general receptive skills. I can rewind and and recap signing . Im grateful their is a transcript and you speak low volume otherwise it would be more difficult at this stage so thank you. Really appreciate and its given me ideas to practice. Amazing thank you x
I'd really appreciate it if you could answer a question I have. I'm a new BSL learner, and I still sometimes get confused with the grammar. I used to think in a sentence that the verb comes last unless there is a question word. But I saw a video where the sentence is "How do you arrive to work" and the order is "Arrive work how", with the verb "arrive" first in the sentence. Could you please explain why this is, please?
Hi Chloe, I’m not sure about the video you watched but you’re right the question does normally come at the end. Also sometimes a question is used to link two sentences together. It helps to look at sign order like a picture, like what part would you paint first. You’ll get there, it takes sometime to learn.
You're really good at getting concepts across in a way that a hearing person like myself can understand. At first I only thought of deafness in the small 'd' way, as just a physical characteristic. Thanks to videos like this though (and lots of BSL Zone), I'm starting to understand the big 'D' meaning too.
Thank you, I always find your videos so helpful. One thing I was wondering is how placement interacts with listing multiple things on your fingers. To use the same example as the video, allocating Mary to the first finger, and Jane to the second. Are there certain situations when placement or listing is preferable, or does it just come down to the choice of the person signing? (Sorry if that's a confusing way to describe it.)
hi thank you. I understand you clearly. Listing on hand, enumeration, is often good when listing people, children, bro, sisters, food etc...because you can go back to the finger without having to repeat the name. Also it's clear. Placement is often good when you're describing something in relation to something else. For easy example-Jane [placement] Mary [placement] first time met. So basically you would bring the right and left index finger in towards each other. Placement is also good when you're signing about topographical information. Hope that's a little bit helpful.🤗
Ah, that makes perfect sense, thanks! It helps my understanding of when to use each method, and it's good to learn the term 'enumeration' too. Answering a question on an old video so quickly, and in detail is really dedicated. @@bsllearningwithmel4459
Hi, they are there, just press the CC, if not sometimes there are three vertical dots on the right of the screen and you can get the subtitles up like that.
These type of videos are so interesting to learn from, and I feel that because it is in short bursts (of examples) that I can follow long enough to understand! Thanks for taking the time :)
Hi Mel, hope all is going well with the VNS and that it is making a difference for you. Pleased to see you back helping so many people with BSL, including myself!
Hi Nigel, thank you. I've just been to hospital today and had my vns switched up again. Still have lots of seizures but it's early days yet, so I really hope so. Thank you for your support.
It’s very similar to king. Your right hand is a claw shape. Put it on the side of your head, then just lift it up slightly keeping the claw shape. It’s a bit like a crown. Hope that makes sense.
