Wynand Claasen led a superb Sth African team to NZ in '81 and they came damn close to winning the series. But he should never have been no. 8 in the tests as Burger Guldenhuys, Theuns Strofberg, Rob Louw and Eben Jansen were all far more suited to combating the ABs game and were the dynamic types needed. Louis Moolman could have been captain with Divan Serfontein as vice or the other way around.
What a legend...unlucky to never have scored a try against SA in his rugby career - maybe that's one of many reasons SA loved this guy!...Rest Easy Big Fella, you have certainly not been forgotten👍...much love & respect from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
Rob Louw ......he is a good person with a heart of gold and very good friend of Errol Tobias.thank you legend .what a humanbeing.may you have a long live
I'm very disappointed with the SARU players for excepting bok blazers, they were denied the opportunity to showcase their talents on the world stage,so why except a apartheid symbol, how many games did they played for the boks.
As a disabled rugby fan from Rhodesia Des you did us proud and our rugby under your coaching and leadership was absolutely great and produced some phenomenal rugby.
that didn't work out, can't chuck 18/19 year olds on different countries with different cultures, especially not when the french sides want immediate results
As a rugby enthusiast from Rhodesia I am very proud of Des especially when he captained South Africa against one of my ancestral countries in 1960. A true legend of Rhodesian and Springbok rugby. I am urgently looking for a 1960 South Africa v Scotland match day programme and used ticket in which Des scored a try for South Africa. If anybody can help with this much sought-after memorabilia for display in my Rugby Museum, they can contact me at the following address: Attention: Mr. F. J. van der Vyver Van's Rugby Museum, P. O.
