I agree there is a difference in pickups. Personally, I'm not a fan of EMG. I do like how bone breaker sounds. Perhaps I get a new guitar with active pickups will keep these in mind.
I'm not a big fan of them iv been using them for a year in my kh3 the 81bb is ok just meh it's the 60a in the neck I dislike more I'm toying with the idea of putting a 81x and 60x in
Not sure what you’re getting on about his pickups, they sound loads better than the 81s in this video. Also do you have a fan on your hair?!? Really?!?
Maybe I'm just tone deaf but I can barely tell them apart. I wholeheartedly agree with you in regards to signature gear looking too obvious, (same with signature guitars) the original EMG design is in my opinion timeless and by far the best looking. I also don't understand why a fan of any musician would bother buying signature pickups when usually their best material was recorded with stock EMGs.
Way late to the party but super tasty playing and great tones. How did you have your Mark V dialed in, because I struggle to get my V90 to sound good with any pedals in front.
Thank you for the kind words! This was the clean channel of the V:25, I’m not sure of the exact settings as it’s been a while since this was recorded (and sadly the amp has long since gone to a new home) but if I find any pictures from the time I’ll reply to this comment and let you know what the settings were! Is your V90 a combo or head? Which speakers are you using with it?
@@jonroberts986 It's a head, running through an orange 2x12 with a Swamp Thang and a Fane F70. Pedals sound great through my Nomad 55 and my VHT Pitbull 50CL, just struggle with the Mark V's clean channel for fuzzes.
Intresting vid, just got a mii with 81s in it. My first set of active pick ups, pretty sick i must say. Nice explorer behind you, iv got a white one too
Have you tested Ernie Ball Stainless steel strings? I also have this problem that all my strings corrode after like one day so im also in the search for the best strings for me. So far the Elixir Nanowebs are the best.
I haven’t tried EB’s stainless strings before, but I have tried D’Addario’s and don’t really remember there being a difference in lifespan. The difference was more in the sound I think. I use Elixir Optiweb 11-49 on everything now, which is the closest thing to perfect that I can find!
I'm fans of EMG Zakk wylde set 81 & 85 I was ever to used it many times on all my guitars and play oldschool thrash/death metal styles more than 20 years passed. and so fucking love shape/more gain sound of it. Now I have plan to consider about buy EMG BB and your video is so very help me for choose it.
Kirks still has his shit together live..indeed..he's human and not a machine, so he makes mistakes just as anyone else...as each member has their share of fuckups...but Kirk still plays his solos great. In my opinion Lars has become the weaker link....still plays well, but he breaks time more often now.. since my band is strictly classic rock, I think the BBs will be fine, more versatile, and not so much IN YOUR FACE. I ordered the Purple Sparkle KH ESP ...can't wait to get my paws on it
Excellent video and great performance! I completely agree with you about the Elixir Nanoweb and the D’addario NYXL! I used NYXL for more than 3 years and I always didn’t like much the top end and that excess in treble or presence so I decided to try different strings. I tried so many brands but when I put the Elixir Nanoweb 10-46 in my guitar I knew it that was it!☺️ The full rounded smooth sound of the nanoweb was what I was looking for! Plus a long life tone and they stay really well in tuning!(the NYXL are amazing about staying in tune too). To me was a gift and I never looked back( I prefer Nanoweb or optiweb) and I don’t have problems with my hands about corrosion ir anything like that…. Also I think they work great with all around types of music…killer tones!
Man, I have dreamed of this guitar since I was a teenager. I actually wanted this exact one or maybe the mummy or quija. But this one is awesome. I just want to play it.
It’s a hell of an instrument! One of the fastest necks with the best upper fret access of any instrument I’ve ever played. It’s very, very good. Hope you get one for yourself soon!
Hiya dude really cool video ,how many of these guitars did you say were made like in total if there’s any of the exact same as this but different sort of runs?
Thanks! The initial run from 2001 was of 100. These are the KH ‘Relic’. A few years later they made it a standard custom shop model with no limit to how many have been made. These are the KH ‘Vintage’. You can tell them apart by the fact the Relic models have their number stamped on the back of the headstock instead of a serial number in that spot, while the Vintage models DO have serial numbers. The Vintage models also have an orangey tint to the neck, like they’ve been more artificially aged than the Relics. Recent Vintage models also have more and more aging on the bodies, to reflect how Kirk’s guitar looks in the present day. They’re both excellent guitars, but the Relics are a cut above!
I just want to know if you kept the bone breakers in your Jackson? Also, I did hear a difference. The bone breakers seemed to have a bassier tone in my opinion.
@@jonroberts986 thanks for the response. I'm also a huge fan of "the greatest band in the world" as I know you are. I love your videos man. Funny, but still serious enough to be enjoyable to watch. Love the opinion/breakdown on these.
Thx for the vid, I just got an old esp ex 50 and the Bone Breakers are a big possibility. I also appreciate your descriptions, you're filling in some gaps in my knowledge, I've built a few solid bodies and need to develop my ear and my lingo... i think i get everything you meat. lol. Nice work!!
I have an 81 / 60TW-R set and just got a KH602 with the BB and there is a very noticeable difference to my ears plugging back and forth. Was getting ready to order a 57/66 set for the MH but seriously considering just adding a BB set, the neck is VERY nice IMHO.
Awesome guitar and cover! I'd love to get a Snakebyte, they're so coool. Great hair man, can I ask how you did it ? It would be awesome to get a result like that, mine is going downhill :( Thanks Jon!
I was here out of curiosity. I play nickel-wound 9's, but got a set of pro-steel 8's once, by accident. Tried them, but the high-E string immediately snapped at the ball-end, (my LP bridge is a bit like a knife) and never got the chance to really put them through their paces. The only intriguing thing to me is that I heard the pro-steels are better-attracted to the pickups, I guess because steel is more magnetic. I am curious about the purported boost in sustain. But the truth is, I am sworn to the nickel, namely because I do a lot of bending and sliding up the neck, and I simply don't need additional abrasion, or sonic brightness, for that matter. It was cool checking in with you. And seeing how it's 7 years on, I'm a bit curious as to whether you finished your studies, and how your life turned out. You seem to be a pretty good player. Best of luck to you. Also, new subscriber.
Thank you! God it’s been a long time 😅 I finished my undergrad and got my masters too! I’d like to think I’m at least a tiny bit of a better player after all this time, but I guess that’s for others to judge 😂 thanks for subscribing too!
The pre amp is tweaked. They are not just a new package emg set. They just aren't. EMG have said their different. Why would they risk a law suit, and as if Kirk would do that to people. He wouldn't do that to people I don't reckon.
Not a dumb question at all! If you don’t need the other pot, just don’t wire it in. The guitar I used in this demo only had 2 volumes and no tone controls, so I just didn’t put those extra pots into the guitar and it worked exactly as it should. Hope that helps!
Did you can't say they supposed to last forever. When the guaranty is 90 days. They are supposed to last for 3 months are hard playing or at least 10 gigs are not forever. Ernie Ball has never claimed they last forever. At least not that I have heard or seen. They only claim compared to other strings they will last a lot longer making the price worth it. That is it.
'Forever' is clearly kind of playing it up for effect. Even the kinda clickbaity thumbnail says '90 days' rather than 'forever'.. 90 days is a long time for a set of strings to last, but I put these on the morning of recording that short demo piece, and by the end of that recording session (maybe 2 or 3 hours?) they'd already started to rust under my hands.
Excellent video ! I fell in love on this pedal... I think is maybe one of the best fuzz pedal of all time... The old noise endeavors alpha hunt seems pretty great too What do you think ? And guess what, i'll get my own unicorn soon !
