Fucken awesome mate Gave me the confidence to do my trans too. What cam and stall have you got in that thing. The stall seems nice and loose. Its it still a 3.08 diff gear or did pareol cars have a lower one
I had no luck with those rotors they ended up warping like some other cheaper brands i tried. I have bendix ones now, and pads which I always use and they have been great. Only problem is the slotted bendix ones you can hear the slots sliding through the pads when you brake. Maybe if the pads had a full chamfer on them thatbwould eliminate the issue
My father bought a 1973 HQ GTS manaro 4 door brand new. I bought a SL torana that was a one owner and I was now the second owner. Both of the cars were bought from Leichardt Holden Sydney and it was known until I had taken my car to show my father. What they did in this dealership was put a big stamp underneath the bonnets of cars sold from their dealership. When I opened my bonnet my father didn’t notice the stamp at first but after taking him for a drive in it he couldn’t believe how good it ran and how fast it was for a 253 V8 3 speed automatic. When we got back we opened the bonnet again and realised it only had a small carby as well and then he noticed the stamp and told us that his HQ had the same stamp. My mate turned up at my fathers and said that we were going to change the carby and put his 350 Holley on it and after putting that on it was even quicker. I was beating 308 commodores and they couldn’t believe it but it wasn’t long and the banjo diff said no more and broke. After putting numerous centres in I decided to upgrade the running gear so I bought a worked 308 and a turbo 350 gearbox both had been in a torana that had a accident and I knew the guy so he approached me about purchasing them. I knew I would need a 9” to cope with the power I was going to have and unfortunately another friend that I used to cruise with had a accident in his torana and he had a custom 9” diff in his LX and asked me if I wanted to purchase it which I said yes but couldn’t get the money until the following Friday as I’m working away and he said he would wait until I got back to come pick it up. After purchasing the diff I had the motor and box in my car not running and the diff sitting beside my car all up the side of my dad’s girlfriend house. After getting her son a job with the company I was with and knowing I wouldn’t be back for two weeks she told my father to call me and to get my car out or she was going to call the scrap truck and tell them to come pick it up. So I had to advise it and what it has but not running atm and I sold it for $5k and told my father to get all the snap on tools out of the boot as they were worth $3k-$4k and he just left them in the boot so the guy that bought it would have been shocked when he opened the boot. To this day I’m shattered that I had to sell that car because it was the cleanest body car all my mates and I had seen and I was lucky enough to be the second owner
I really want to do this! I’ve got the exact same car down to the car 😂 I’ve just done a res delete on it and it done absolutely nothing! So now I wanna do this! But I guess it’s gonna sound even louder than this coz of the res 😅😅 Thankyou so much for the video!
@@GMH-Az I thought so. I missed your hatch on my first walk around and later in the day my son was telling me about his favourites and yours was his stand out. That is one super clean and well detailed hatch. We both loved everything you have done there. 👍👍👍
The trans might've cost about the same as a professionally rebuilt one, but you have upgraded components in it, and one built to that spec would've cost you probably a couple of grand more than what you spent on it, so for what you got, it was a good price. Nice job! Looking forward to when you can do the paint and panel work (after the Corvette). 👍🏻
5:45 What Ryan's doing is what I call "using your head" for reinstalling the bonnet... literally! Haha! I love it! 🤣 I have to admit to doing the same type of thing when working on cars and bikes and needing a third arm. Don't let the Po Po see you with the magnetic decals. 😉 The engine sounds absolutely lovely. It makes me want to get a V8. I have a VZ Acclaim with the "SludgeTec," err, I mean "Alloytec" engine. Though I have to admit I'm curious to see what the V6 would be like with some Total Seal gapless rings and a couple of small snails to help it to breathe a bit better. 🤔 What suspension gear did you go for? I'm part way through putting in KYB dampers with FE2 springs and some spacers to bring it back up to FE1 height for a stock look (I'm a sleeper type of guy). The rear went in five years ago, and I haven't got around to doing the front yet, but I need to replace the rack rods and tie rod ends, so I might as well finish the suspension while I'm at it. Hopefully I'll get it done when I have some time off work in a few weeks. Anyway, well done! It's nice to see the result putting a big smile on your dial! 😁
12:38 you need a two-post hoist, some stabilisation straps and a big trolley lift (I know: easy to say, but not many people have the headroom and money for all of that). When I worked at Holden, the engineering garage used to raise up cars on the hoists and drop the front sub-frame, engine and transmission out as a single unit. It made engine and transmission replacements really easy, but they also had the big bucks to get the lifting gear. I can't recall about VT-VZ, but for VE/VF, even the radiator and front suspension came out as part of the subframe assembly. It made it really easy to get to all the hard to get to nooks and crannies, and double-check most of the pipework. Of course, there were a few things that needed to be dealt with before dropping the subframe and after reinstalling it, but man, it made the job a lot easier for the technicians. Threading an engine and transmission in through the top has always looked like it's doing the job the hard way after seeing how the engineering techs do it. Anyway, great video, and congrats on getting your car back on the road! 👍🏻
I am desperate for a hoist, but my garage ceiling height is 2.7m and I don't think I will get enough height on the lift to work under the car adequately.
If you have a BBQ Oven put those calipers in @ 100 degrees for about an hour and it bakes them nicley. Take care and don't over cook them. I'm single so I use my house oven which has better heat control. I think you also learned to leave the nut on the BJ stud when under spring load.
Awesome! My indefinitely garaged VX Clubby needs some tlc. Also after decades of white Holden cop cars here in NZ this car would give me the shits if I saw it coming towards me. Great job. Cheers. 🍻
Great channel mate. I’m guessing you are on the same side of Melb as me…(Sth East). Just wondering where you got all your parts for the 4L60e build? I’m just pulling the auto out of my VY SS now
There are a couple of decent places in Melb for 4L60E parts. M J Products and Trade-Alley. Both sell direct, or via eBay. I bought my clutch pack and steels direct from the US though. I couldn't find anywhere local for those. I also bought a couple of parts (gear sets etc) from China
What was the Camcrow push rods part number used. I like the way your ex popo LS1 sounds, and drives So looking to replicate. 😉. Thanks for sharing the motor and transmission rebuilds very helpful.
PR802 from Mace Engineering. www.maceengineering.com.au/16-X-CROW-CAMS-SUPER-DUTY-PUSHROD-TO-SUIT-HOLDEN-CALAIS-VT-VF-LS1-L76-L77-L98-LS3-57L-60L-62L-V8
Magnificent...! Full credit for a great restoration. Even back in the day, LX SL/R's weren't exactly common. Thanks for not turning it into another SLR5000/A9X copy. Congratulations on superb work 😁👍
Hi mate , great content. Are you in Sydney? Do you want to help me rebuild my vf2 ls3? 😂I want to do it myself but matbe i will end up sending to the shop due to the lack of buddies to tag allong making sure i don't kill myself trying to remove the engine.
In the States, these cars are a dime a dozen, at least up until around 20 years ago. But I can see why you folks Down Under would gravitate toward them. Much like many of us would love to have a clean Holden Ute. Good luck with the build.
