I've decided to order a D-15 based on the various 15 series instruments you have made demos of. Do you have any preference between the standard finish and the street master finish? Is one more popular in general than the other? I like both but wonder if I'll tire of the street master look over time. I know the standard model uses rosewood for their fingerboard and bridges and the street master uses Katalox. Do you have a preference here and is there a slight tonal difference? Someone told me Katalox is denser like ebony and transfers sound better. Lastly, does the 000-15SM have the power of the dreadnought model but just in a different body configuration Thanks, Bill
@@2628064379 Hi Bill, thanks for watching and your questions, glad if I can help you make decisions. The 15 series is great in my opinion, great look, sound and feel. I prefer and never get tired of the traditional standard finish rather than the Streetmaster, and I think over time it will keep its value better. A variety of woods are/have been used for the fingerboard and bridge on all the models. I think rosewood is only consistently used on custom 15 series anymore, such as the Gruhn 0000, which by the way is a great guitar that combines the best of 000 and D. But each is it's own thing and all sizes are great. The 12 fret 000-15sm does have more bass than the 14 fret 000, but still doesn't have the lush depth that the D has. But the 12 fret and 14 fret 000 have more mid range punch typically, and are more comfortable to hold. You can't go wrong with any of them, just a matter of preference of size and sound. Hope that helps, good luck in your search. Cheers! Todd
Beautiful ! Just had my first son named Kilian. This was the tune we played throughout the pregnancy the birth and drive home from hospital 🏥 Great sound, very rich! Great share 🙏🏼 I will need to look up the tuning and give it a shot. 😊
@@toddvossmusic7833 Thank you. I sold a D-15M year ago and am thinking about replacing it and possibly with the 000-15sm. My ears just hear a 14-fret connection punchier and more articulate on the Martin hogs but everybody seems to like the 000-15sm.
That's a personal choice. I sold the guitar, I think the new owner is putting a pickup in it. If you gig, a pickup makes sense, I generally prefer no pickup, but do put in some of my guitars. The right one would sound great in this.
Thanks for sharing this demo. I have a 2023 J45 Standard in vintage sunburst. I love it. I’m currently shopping around for a used Martin D28 or HD28. I can’t go wrong, whichever one I choose!
You bet. Keep in my a HD-28 is typically going to be more open and bassy than a D-28, which is more mid range focused. Either will be a nice compliment to your J-45.
Thanks. Keep in mind an HD-28 typically has a deeper bass and a bigger dynamic range and more open sounding due to the forward shifted scalloped braces, than a standard D-28, which tends to be more mid-range focused punchy.
Do you prefer one guitar over the other? I have a 00028 and am left handed, plus I live in an area where I have no opportunity to even try an OM28 unless I actually order one, so I am curious if you have a favourite? I really love my 00028, but am still curious about the OM28. Do I need both? LOL
Good question. I prefer the comfort of the little bit shorter and little bit easier fingering of the 000 short scale, but because I generally want the more volume and power of the longer scale I often lean towards that. So it just depends on the feel and sound you are after. Also it varies from guitar to guitar. Some 000's are more powerful than some OM's. Also you can compensate either to achieve what you want, by your choice of strings, for more or less punch etc. So I would say if you like your 000, no you don't need an OM. But if you are not getting what you want from it, or you are like me and just want to try everything 😁, then you might try an OM. I too live in an area with no access to a large selection of good guitars, so I buy and sell used on Reverb. Good luck, enjoy what you have, happy pickin'!
That guitar is so nice, sounds great, is it as expensive as Grand suzuki guitar? Thank you so much for sharing. Your are a great guitarist. Keep it up uncle.
I would choose the D-15m, I like the warmer mahogany tone, and the body is a little smaller and more comfortable. But if you want a brighter punchier sound the DSS would be a good choice.
Amazing I’d love to learn that but rarely know how to go about it. My D15 is in for a set up with a luthier but they have 8 to do before mine. But yours sounds amazing and I hope mine does to when it comes back plus I really should use my capo more often as I rarely use it
Thanks for your comments. Yeah, it is daunting to figure out how to play a new tune, particularly if it is above our skillset. Helps to break it down, for example just find the starting notes and pick out the simple melody. Then figure out what chords go with it (for example key of G uses G, C and D). Most of my instrumentals are just a combination of a simple melody with strumming of chords or partial chords. Bet your guitar will sound and play great. What pick you use makes a huge difference in the tone you get. I use fairly heavy stiff picks, which give a nice deep fat tone.
Congrats on the 000! For quite a while I have been using Elixir 12's, light gauge phosphor bronze w/ nanoweb coating. Sometimes will use Elixir HD light which is medium on top 3 strings, light on bottom 3.
Hey Rob, thanks for watching and your appreciation, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. My favorites? Well I am a fan of Martins in general. I like so many it's hard to pick favorites, but overall the 18's are at the top...000-18 and D-18, they can do anything, and just are the most pleasing to my ear. The 15 series all mahogany to me are warm friendly feel good guitars, so they are up there too. What are your favorites? -Todd
@@toddvossmusic7833 thanks for the reply! I think I agree with you. I got an OM-28 which is beautiful and sounds great too. But I enjoy the sound of my 000-18 better. I meant to sell the 18 when I got the 28, but I haven't been able to do it! Might have to just keep both.
@@robbycarrasco yes OM-28 is a great guitar, keep them both if you can. I have had a couple and would like to get one again. Beautiful looking and the dynamic range is great.
Love this guitar and your playing! Could you tell me what brand capo you are using? Sold on this guitar and going to make the plunge first chance I get for sure. Thanks for this awesome video.
I owned a 1961 M-20 Ghost label in mint condition. Gift from a relative who bought it new. wonderful guitar but useless. 1 5/8ths nut. I prefer adult nuts. Though better than an equivalent Martin.. impossible to play. Offed it.
@@toddvossmusic7833 The playability and tone on an M-20 is unmatched. They are special. Didi not know the new models had a 1 3/4 nut. Which, for me, is the minimum nut width. I prefer 1 13/16ths and 1 7/8ths. Tough to find except on 12 fret slot heads (my favorite) and most of these are pricey such as Santa Cruz and Collins.
Hello, I would go for the Martin, but I am a Martin fan, and not a Taylor guy so am biased. Lighter, more open and warmer sounding. Try em both in person if you can. Goid luck!
