You folks are awesome and I mean that, as I rarely use that ‘awesome’ word. PECs totally changed my son’s life. He was completely non-verbal & started verbalising sounds from 7+ and was unintelligible to outsiders until nearly 11. A decade of struggles. My word, your functional communication massively affected his previously self-harming behaviour. Today he is such an assured young man, confident and does not self-harm at all and he even speaks albeit no more than one sentence at a time. He no longer needs PECs nor its successor, Makaton. The PEC system was not designed to facilitate speaking. Yet, without using PECs so early (starting at age 2 or 3) we have no doubt, one tiny phase milestone at a time, until phase 6, he would not dare to try speaking at all.

@pecsglobal - I downloaded the PECSTalk Lite app today on my Android tablet and Android phone. There isn’t any voice output. Is it supposed to be that way? I know the description says “limited functionality”. I also read the description within the app but that’s vague too. Is there anywhere that goes into more detail about what will and won’t be available in the Lite version?
@@anneovercash1755 - In its current form the Lite version doesn’t have enough features to be able to actually try it out to know if it would be a good fit for an individual prior to recommending purchasing. Other AAC apps offer a time limited way to try an app with the voice output.

Initiation is key to communication! This is why we as therapists need to be careful to avoid prompting like "what do you want?", "Tell me", and using starter phrases "I want...". This is why PECS is sooooo important.
As a graduate student working special educator in a high school classroom for students with autism, I am grateful for your sharing of such great applicable, and timely information. I will definitely seek the PECS training as soon as possible.
This video makes so much sense why I wanted to make up my classroom with so many PECs and individualized folder PECs. Thanks again for providing informational content for children in the autism spectrum.
Better take photos of real objects and toys they are using and print it out laminate and use in PECS.most of the kids I worked have difficulty in generalizing this cartoon images with real items.
It’s not a good idea to start with photos. They really know their stuff, these PECs folks. Our son associated the photo with a particular park & no other green park. He was self-harming every day & 100% non-verbal, but now at 21, so happy and he is also verbal.

Hello Alicia - At this time, the only way to back up the app to an outside database in order to ensure that all data (user pictures, profiles, and books) is protected is to back-up your entire device using iCloud.
