That's a myth. Birds have a very poor sense of smell, so picking up a bird and returning it to the nest or water is fine. Don't spread myths unless you know what your talking about.
HEY GUYS WOW LOOK AT NATURE!! _runs up to duck and its babies disrupting their path while they're also trying to look out for other predators_ HII DUCKY!! WOW!!! WOWWW!!!! NATURE IS SOOOO PRECIOUS!!! _predators catches duckling_ NO!! BAD NATURE!! BAD!! THAT IS NOT HOW I WANT IT TO GO!!
Sooooo the ducklings definitely aren’t much safer in the water, catfish, pike, bass, turtles, all would love to snatch a duckling.. And whoever told that guy that hawks won’t take anything off the water doesn’t know squawk about birds
Just so you know, mom won’t abandon them if they get your scent on them. That’s what your mom told you so you left little birds alone when you were little. It’s amazing how many people believe that lol.
When I was a kid, I used to live near a lake. The number of ducklings one would see with mothers would tend to decrease as the spring months wore one. There is a reason why, despite so many hatchlings, the world isn't filled with ducks.
The hawk is helpng the ducks get better by removing the slow ones. Could have gone for the faster, more muscley ones, but no, settles for the littler, slower straggly ones, just to help with the duck breeding program.
