Was there a recall or did Polaris change this design or correct it at all? I bought a used 05 about 3 years ago, only problem ive had has been the stator, but i wonder if my machine is eating the camshaft every time i start it
Thanks General. I've heard that polaris fixed this problem by the mid 2000's. Mines an '09 and has all the symptoms so maybe they didn't, so I'd like to look for after market cam and rockers. Anyone know of any?
Wow. How many mile on that? How old? Mine is 01 HO that's TWENTY YEARS OLD,and in great condition with about 5K on it. Amsoil lubricants since day one.
Great Video! I lined everything up, even found dots on the bottom wheel, in line with the line you are talking about. However, when I go to turn the motor over it stops about 3/4 of a turn. Take the rockers off and it spins fine. Is it possible that the cam shaft is in wrong? Valve stems are off? Any suggestions?
Thank you very much for this video. My Magnum 500 is doing just this so I might pull the rocker cover off and have a look! Good on you for posting this to help others. What I don’t understand is how Polaris could release such a defective product!
Note: Hey everyone, if you can get your hands on a Prius Water pump they are Weather Proof and 12V high temp Magnetic drive pumps no motor in traditional sense but will last for YEARS!!!!
Your loss is not completely in vain - thank you for the explanation and full description of the issue. Ordering a new cam kit shortly. Question - should I replace the timing chain as well? Are you aware of any oil flow issues to the center of the cam, or is it just cheap metal? THANKS for the post!
Hello, just wanted to say thank you for such an informative video! I have a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 that was having this problem. Unfortunately, we didn't see this video until after replacing the fuel pump and carburetor, and checking all kinds of things with the fuel. But after finding the video and already having a hunch that the camshaft was the problem, we took off the air filter and ran the quad, and there was indeed air and some liquid (not sure if it was gas or oil) coming out. I took a leap of faith and ordered the camshaft and rocker arms, and gasket set. We took everything apart and sure enough, the camshaft looked identical to the one in this video. There was barely any lobe left. It really was identical to the one presented in the video. If you plan on keeping your Sportsman for a while, you may want to look for a camshaft that is made of hardened steel. I will put links below to everything I bought, since i found one on Amazon. I hope this helps anyone looking into this in the future. Sorry I never got my motor fixed ended up getting it professional rebuilt. But if you get a pump that can handle pumping HOT FLUIDS (210° F) then you can just bypass the internal water pump. But you have to deal off the old pumps in/out ports so the counter balance gear stays oiled up!! And check the crank oil they do use 4 oz. Of oil Crank case!!!!
The compression seemed good! Why I couldn't figure out what was wrong! I did timing 5 times, voltage check on stator, compression check (I think around 90-105?) I replaced cylinder n piston (NEW) cleaned carb 3-4 times.... finally gave up got used motor.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was headed down the "bad carburetor" or "timing" path and your tip about the gas blowing out the intake really helped me diagnose the camshaft in my 02' Ranger 6x6. Without your video I'm sure I would have wasted some money on un-needed repairs. As it was $76 bought me a new cam, rockers, and gasket set off eBay (super deal). Wish I could paste a bad cam photo - it was toast - how did it run to half throttle I'll never know.
You got a great deal!! A lot of the parts now are dropping price like crazy!! I just wish I had known about the cam sooner too, I re-timed my motor 5 times cleaned carb 3 times checked stator output voltage wiring everything I could think of.... A simple fix and easy to do in the frame!!
At the beginning of it getting to the "round" shape it would run 1/2 throttle just find before sputtering. After it finally rounded off it would idle fine but as soon as you touched the throttle it spit gas in vapor form out the carbs back (in to air box) and would cut out and sputter and just die. What was happen was it sucked gas n air in couldn't get it out the exhaust and when it came around to pull gas air in the pressure of combusted gas (smoke) blew the new gas out the carbs first then sucked new gas in to burn. Lol. Like a in/out single valve motor. 😂
Camshaft and rockers can be done while engine is in frame, per service manual. Sure makes for a better video when it's on the bench and we can see what's going on. I'm afraid this is what I'm gonna find on mine, too
You can easily do it on frame but to pull motor off frame only took about 15 mins after all plastics and primary clutch was removed to unbolt the clutch cover from the motor.
Thanks, I'm sorry I never got more put up but after Torque went MIT I just lost interest as a lot of stuff started getting to be more of a hassle to get the newest fixes and such so I just burned out on Video game programming. The is a very good first person Tutor on the web site that shows you how to edit the GUI display, make your own counters to display, edit and make definitions for weapons and how to do basic terrain editing and player limitations they have when walking on it. Look up "First Person Shooter Tutorial" in the user section. I made it into a book and it's pretty big but really commented on each part so you know what everything does!!
Good video but make sure you check your antifreeze after a few months of running it this way because on a glycol heat system we had to reduce the pump speed because of coagulation or gelling up of the antifreeze.but that was on a boiler system to heat pipes for winter .I do have a 2 stroke 99 explorer with a blown head gasket/overheated water pump impeller.Seems this could work well.
I haven't got the motor rebuilt yet, but the guy who followed my mod a year ago when I first thought of it said his has done great and has never gotten even the little bit hot. I'll post more videos when I get it rebuilt and running, maybe some time though.
My 400l cools very well with factory pump. Even in tight woods and slower speeds, I really have to work to even get the fan on. I can think of many uses around the house for that pump! How did it go? Any updates?
Sorry, Got a question, The Sapling addon in Blender allows you to make tree's, But I can't ever get them to show up in torque, Have you ever messed with that addon, Is there something I should make sure I do before exporting? I'm able to get meshes with textures and all that to work.
Not for a whilre. I was thinking of doing one to explain better how to use the Torque pre defined animations. Basically you can get a list of the pre-defined player animations the Torque uses for your and NCP characters. then just name your animations the same as the normal Torque pre-defined animation sequences and it will save you lots of time in programming.
For more info on Creating Animated Models check out the Blender home page and watch some of the great free tutorials on modeling and animation! Loccated at "cgcookie.com/blender/" Hope this helps!
Frame rate can be changed but I'm not sure as the max frame rate, depends on program running the animation I would guess. The Garage Games web site has LOTS of info and Tutorials to using Torque and now under the new MIT licence you can get Torque 3D for FREE!!! Check it out.
Wow! So what is the absolute highest number of frames possible in Collada? Can the frames limit be increased by editing? Where can I get more information such as assigning hot keys to trigger animation in Torque, using scripting language to trigger animation by events in game, or making the animation loop endlessly?
You can replace the default player model, but it's kind of a hassle. you have to name all the animations to the same thing the default uses and edit alto of scripts. But this is a normal part of making a custom game. If you have a paid version check out the China Town demo. I would also recommend getting a copy of Torque for Teens and Torque for teens second edition as it help you learn some of the things to making your own game.
The Torque Engine can be slow if you are trying to do multiple things at once, Even on my Kick Ass system it runs great until I click over to the second monitor do work on a web page or Blender then it runs slower.... I'm not sure of the fix for it as I am a paid Licensed user so it's not the free demo that's doing it. Sorry but I haven't really checked on why it runs slow, Like I said it run great if I am playing a game or doing some editing in it on my Machine.
This engine is very nice one but the problem is it's is slow I have downloaded the demo one and its working slowly even I have udk editor and it is working perfectly
just like I show in the first 2 min of this video, but to use it you have to write scripts to make it a weapon or whatever it is so your players can pick it up and Mount it to them I.E. hold the gun to fire it. I can't tell you how as I never got to far into scripting myself, but the forums may have some tutorials that will show you how! Hope that helps you! Mike
yep cool thx for answering my questions. one last question. ok so i made a blender model of a revolver, as i already use blender, and i baked animations to it. then i exported it as a Collada '.DAE' file but now how do i import it into torque3D?
OH yeah, you can do anything you want and you can buy the Torque art packs and monsters, and all the stuff in the Torque store!! The Free version just doesn't give you the Source code, it has the Torque Logo screen in your games, and you can't sell them, other than that it's the same as the Paid version. Which I have cause access to the Members forums is worth it!
The Free version is full feature, make any kind of game you want it is NOT crippled in any way, you don't get the Source code, tech support or Members only areas of the Forums. You may NOT sell games made free version, but can give them to your friends. Free version will include Made with TORQUE logo on start up. You can put Your Logo with the Paid version, NO fees paid to Garage Games, UNLESS you make more than $100,000 in sells a year, then you have to go Commercial Licenses.
Thanks for the video! I have a problem, however. When I load in my mesh it doesn't show up. It's there, I can select it, but it's invisible and intangible. I tried changing the mesh settings, but nothing seems to be working. Any advice is appreciated.
Texturing 3D models is general done in the 3D application that made the model or one that can import the models format. I use Blender 2.62 as it supports a lot of different model formats and it's FREE! As for "skinning" the model the skins are made in a program like photo shop or Gimp (FREE!) and then imported into the 3D model program. Hope that helps, if your models are in Collada format then you can edit them, but most games do not give you access to the original models. Hope this helps!
