@TravisBrady-wn8fr good luck with your polychromes - you may find the following playlists useful ru-vid.com/group/PLZEKvhMRGwDAEYedEbqbobzqxEkAp8jcX&si=_cyX6iW4tRV4zTJy. ru-vid.com/group/PLZEKvhMRGwDDAv2Q9lpBewU7sDLX0kE8i&si=iZz5nvQMWvQYPGJG
I found while using this medium my paints “dried” but did not cure for weeks, sometimes months. And even after a few years the paint films could be easily damaged. Please use caution when handling paintings using gamblin solvent free mediums.
Hi @vermeer4life966 thank you for the useful information - I have actually started to conduct tests on all the mediums I use - do you have any suggestions on non toxic mediums that don’t have this effect long term
@@SpectrumArtStudio I’ve had good luck using walnut oil mixed with lavender spike oil 10:1 and couple drops of M. Graham walnut alkyd medium(optional) to thin or soften my paint. Rublev’s valasques medium and their walnut oil gel work really well to extend and body paint as well as glaze.
Hi @kennethaquino8352 If you mean can you use different brand of water soluble oil paint in the same painting yes and sometimes I use 3 or 4 - purely because I prefer the quality or hue of a particular brand over the other !! ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
The video is so beautiful ❤️ i wish i saw it yesterday because yesterday i bought a faber castell polychromos ... I wanted to try them and see how they perform .. and i already have prismacolors and they perform nicely on paper .. as you said they have a problem with the pencil shape but after all the performance is the important part ... I didn't test the polychromos yet but i think they will do an amazing job ❤
Please support independent art supply stores. If you don't have one in your area, there are still ones that are happier to ship and making a purchase to a small business makes a bigger impact.
Hi @LisaH2472 I totally agree - I get my open stock Prismas and FCs from an independent trader and they do special deals - very reliable and great customer service 😀
I'm torn. I'm buying a full set of prismas and I want a full set of either polychromos or luminance to compliment them. Which if you could have only one would you recommend?
I would go for the polychromos because they are the polar opposite of the prismas ie so the way I use them together is I do my base blending layer with the prismas and the details with the polychromos. It may be worth buying some open stock before investing in a full set to try them Good luck with your choices 😀
Hi @TravisBrady-wn8fr Indeed - However you dont need to buy the whole set just the colors you need a few at a time - hope you enjoyed Have a good day ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
@SpectrumArtStudio I'm a graphite artist. Always been intimidated bu working in color. I have a old Berol Prismacolor set from 1983 but can't bring myself to use it. One of the few things I have from when I was a kid.
I grip my pen very differently for writing, so I have none of that muscle memory for the tripod grip and it feels very uncomfortable. Teachers tried to get me to draw with the more common tripod grip, but I refused and continued to do it my way. I have a very different way of holding the pencil, and it seems like a lot of these kinds of tutorials don't account for how some people might have developed a different technique. I wonder how common it is for people to deviate like I did, and what people like me should do when drawing. Should I really be trying to reverse decades of muscle memory to do it the 'correct' way?
Hi @Ironically-Sarcastic I would suggest that you DON'T reverse what you have learnt - in my opinion it would be like asking someone that is left handed to reverse their technique and try to write with their right hand and that would be tricky - there is no ' correct ' way as such just an easy way for beginners. - If you have a way that you are happy with and you have developed your style then that is your way😀✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
@@SpectrumArtStudio Thanks for replying! I recently learned to touch type properly with all fingers after using only 4 fingers, and it took me over a year to get back to my original typing speed, so I was getting flashbacks to that nightmare 😅 I'll keep going with my unusual grip as it feels very stable for me. The overhand grip is no problem though, and that seems to be helping a lot with my shading.
Hi @TravisBrady-wn8fr Of course - however, I felt that it would be useful to highlight the flaws that I found in this set especially with the set being so costly so that people can make a choice before spending out !!! ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
@SpectrumArtStudio you're right. I'm on the fence about getting the set. I quit drawing 20 yrs ago and now the itch has come back. I definitely don't want to get a fake set. I think I've found after a day of research a safe set to buy. Thank you for the valuable intel.
Hi @iuilewatercolors and welcome to the channel. Thank you for your kind words. I really enjoyed using this product and look forward to using more soon however, the availability isn't great in the UK so the range is limited - Hopefully more will be available over here soon. 🎨 👍🏻👩🏻🎨
Hi @Jurinich Yes it is but it is still quite a niche product. I may do a review in the future because I like to use natural products but I would always choose linen because of the smooth texture and hemp is usually quite a rough texture ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
Hey I used your link for my first order... I don't see any difference or any 15% discount. I have logged in another account in another device to check whether there's any difference there's nothing 😢
I have this gel......Not really love it 😏........I DO GUES that the original formules of oil painting mediums from 1400-1500 -1600 'es are REALLY GREAT ❤️
@@SpectrumArtStudio VENETIAN GEL Medium from LEFRANC BOURGEOIS.....It's good....very good ,but not perfect ☝️ ....I gues some touches of larice balsam would unritch it just fine
Hi @ivyfasko9699 I'm glad you enjoyed the clip and welsome to the channel - always use the finest grit possible and sand it lightly so you don't sand through the canvas the aim is to smooth the texture of the paint - hope that makes sense - Have a good day ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨

You have a great video. But I ask you to please keep in mind when you're picking your music certain music irritates us certain music is soothing to us please consider the background music. I have noticed that every commercial today that we get on TV is irritating and upsetting ourselves The powers that be know this frequency effects our selves and DNA please take this into consideration I have done much research on sound frequency and the cell of the human irritating frequencies make us want to turn the channels off thank you.
Hi @materialgirl338 Thank You for your feedback - it is very helpful and I made this clip a few years ago and usually use classical piano now so hopefully my video making technique is improving - I always appreciate feedback on how I can improve - hope to see you on the channel soon ✨👩🏻🎨✨🎨✨
Great tips. May I recommend the book by Kimberly Brooks, "The New Oil Painting". She proposes a routine that is entirely solvent free with no thinner? As a multi-respiratory allergy ridden hobbyist: "plant" & "natural" doesn't mean allergy/sensitizing free. Think, pollens. Some folks might tolerate better citrus-based solvents than lavender-based. I have been ysung Cobra paints for the last 3 months. Pretty satisfied with them but... could not resist trying less used pigments in traditional oil so, I'm working out a full K. Brooks routine. A bit cumbersome but can't get any safer (no irrutation, sinusitus, etc).
Thank you! I do save those canvas keys (didn’t know what they are were called), just wasn’t sure which way to insert them into the back. Your video is clear, precise and added those little reminders (using scissors to open on the back side of the canvas) we all need. Let’s face it, when tired or in a rush, we don’t always do things the way we should! Thanks again.
Hi @lisahamilton3483 and welcome to the channel. Thank you for your kind words and feedback. I hope to see you again on the channel soon. Good Luck with your painting !!! 🎨 👍🏻👩🏻🎨
Hi @wisdomite1971 and welcome to the channel. With water mixable oils there are 2 ways - one is by simply adding water and the second is by adding medium to increase the flow of the paint (for traditional oils you also need to do this with linseed oil for a top layer) as oil straight out of the tube is too thick - Hope this helps and have a Happy Painting WeeK !! 🎨 👍🏻👩🏻🎨
