Jim Armstrong and channel background: The majority of videos in this channel involve detailed evaluations of outdoor products such as flashlights and headlamps. I perform Search and Rescue as a private contractor and my focus is wilderness night operations. Reviews focus on actual field use of each product from a Search and Rescue perspective. Many reviews are performed over the course of several months and more than one video; they feature extensive use of products in realistic settings.
I an ex-bodyguard and volunteered for the Carrollton, TX PD from 2014 to 2023. I also volunteer for the Denton Police Academy and the US Forest Service, specializing in the LBJ Grasslands in Alvord, TX. Much of my personal views on gear are from a LE and private Security perspective. I have trained with a Force Recon Marine in both executive protection and SAR Ops since 2014.
Very good review. Clear and the most interesting advantages are really well demonstrated, it makes me want to buy this lamp, thank you very much for this work.
Glad you found it helpful. My goal is to help people find the right products for their use cases, though, not directly sell anything :). Good luck to you!
That's a very interesting suggestion. If I took that one on, though, it would be most appropriate for the SAR Team - the private community on the channel. I don't think it would do all that well on the public section of the channel. Thanks again.
Nice video! I have an older version, the warrior x pro in camo color which with about 2,200 lumens and it a nice torch. It's all business with the modes and operation with no extras, but it does it well. I don't like the proprietary battery though.
I love my Ledlenser P7R Core. +It has the focus feature with optically clear field. Therefore you don't want to hit hard object with the adjustable head or the 7yr warranty is lost. +There are more available modes in the UI - I programmed mine to tactical flash, high, medium, strobe, low. +Basically I don't like to carry it -just in case but I love to use it. Best for after work endurance road cycling sessions -two clicks for boost mode, zoom out for zig-zag turns, focus for straight high speed ascends, strobe for lightened areas, spare battery for every possibility.
Do u feel like the flood spills out good enough, I have the 25 , and happy with that spill , I really want to like this like light , use mine for walking at night on a country road ,.thanks
Look at the field of view chapter in the video. Both the flood and spot have a very hard edge. There are significant dark areas by your feet and side to side while looking straight ahead. If you're just out walking at night, the HP35R is likely to be overkill. Keep a backup flashlight with you that has good throw to complement your existing headlamp that you already use an like. Hope that helps.
I think the flood should always be wider than the spot. I like the perimeter of the beam to reach close to my toes. A full flood or mule style light as they call it can do that. I like to use a Zebralight full flood light on my waist and a smooth spot on my head. The full flood lights have a short throw but have a huge spread and should always go along with a spot to cover everything.
@L5-SAR when I walk , I only use the flood on high on my 25 , seems good enough but the battery seems to be failing sortof quickly , I don't use the spot unless I wanna look in the field so u really feel like the flood has too many dark edges
Can you adjust the beam at all ans Make it a flood light, or is it always that super tight laser light throw? I prefer a tight throw But when you're looking at things a lot closer, you need more of a flood light.
I just purchased my TK16 V2 primarily for the Instant Strobe feature. I'm a Wildland Firefighter and we use strobe alot in coordinating our bucket drops with our Heli pilots. Strobe allows them so see us under the tree canopies. This is by far the most excellent review. I have learned alot about flashlights now compare to a moment ago. Thank you!
У вас отменной видео! Стерео видео!! Впервые вижу в ютубе видео такого высокого качества! Спокойное без дерганья и тряски, вдумчивое.И изображение объёмное! (9:00-10:00 у реки) Очень приятно! :)))
That's an excellent question. In terms of base performance, you'd likely get much longer run times at a comparable level of illumination with the Fenix, but the Nitecore offers a much better balance between downrange punch and side-to-side visibility. Two rather different types of lights - it just depends on your UI preferences and use cases. It might be worth a future comparison video to better differentiate the two lights. Thank you.
@L5-SAR I was thinking the same thing 🤔 I thing the Fenix is better in a since you have a separate flood and spot beam . The nitecore always going to have a hot spot in whatever ur looking at .
The flood is also high CRI if that is of use to you. I did a 4K HDR night videography video using that headlamp for the SAR Team (private community on the channel). The Nitecore has a neutral flood (aux light), but it does not have much reach. You can see that in the field test. Good luck to you.
I am not going to have time to film and produce the turbo burn down time lapse video. I have done additional testing in temps ranging from 86F to 98F. I get about 3-5 minutes of seemingly consistent output on Turbo Spot followed by an aggressive ramp-down. The steady state lasts over 1.5 hours after which I turned the light off. It seems very close to the High output level and is likely the steady state for several hours, consistent with the published burn-down chart. Next up is a summary of my nearly three years with the HP30R V2 followed by the detail comparison of the HP30RV2 and the HP35R. Thank you.
The 'best' is going to be dependent on an individual's specific use cases and how they feel about proprietary battery packs. For just downrange punch, the HP35R is clearly the winner.
The rain exposure and stress test (that killed the EDC35) were published to the SAR Team (private community). The 33 had the most water exposure, but less physical damage testing. It survived.
Top review, like to me this flashlight. I've many Fenix and Nitecore. Outdoor place in the night very good for the test. Hi by FRANCESCO VIVALDI Photo-Urbexer-Explorer (Italy)
Fenix, Nitecore, and Acebeam are probably the top three brands I use in night SAR at least as far as headlamps, long-throw, and free lights are concerned. If you are a photographer in Italy, please send me a link to some of your work. Thank you.
Thank you. I'm under a very bad time crunch right now with my mother who has Alzheimer's and Dementia. She is in rehab from a bad fall with cracked ribs and a fractured C2 vertebrae. At best, I'm hoping a couple public videos a month. I'm also producing content for the SAR Team, which is the private community on the channel. Thanks again.
I'm a paramedic and really like your review. I'm strongly considering this light to replace / carry in addition to my Archer 2A C. I work in a county with many rural areas, and I've had to search for patients in places with no lights. My current light works, and its cheap enough that if i lose it I'm not too upset but I really like the output and it's not too unaffordable
You may also want to look at the endurance test video on the channel. In later stress testing, however, the light failed. That video is available to SAR Team members (private community). I hope you find all this information helpful in making a final decision and thanks for your service!
Now, I only ran the light down to where I would no longer use it. That's different from running to complete battery depletion. And, it was during cold weather which often affect battery performance negatively. Which is, of course, why I run the field tests :)
I'm still kind of digging the Nitecore HC65 UHE - gives you kind of the best of both. Going to do a more extensive test of that one once I get past my current time crunch with my Mother's health issues. Thank you.
