The name is Capt. Kojo Tsikata. Now we know the killings were senseless. The corruption of the Akuffo Addo government cannot be measured. All Ghana's national assets were privatise under JJ Rawlings s administration and since then Politicians and leaders have looted the assets of this once great nation to the ground. Rawlings and Tsikata killed these former national leaders and top brains for crimes they ended up committing as well. The Akyem Mafia on the other hand have taken corruption to a whole new level. In a nutshell, Rawlings and Tsikata s action was senseless and worthless to Ghana.

Rawlings said: "I hope you will be alive to read [my] book". Meaning: he was not writing any book, so even if the reporter lived forever, he would see no such book to read. General Ojukwu made a similar promise to us when he was alive, he even boasted that his book on Biafra was over 50% done, yet over a decade since his death, the truth is that he wrote no book. It is really disappointing because their legacies will remain shrouded in gossips, innuendos, rumors, and second guessing forever, even though they could have avoided such situations by writing their memoirs. Even if General Afrifa did what Rawlings ascribed to the unnamed dubious General, it didn't deserve recrimination from the government because the donated money was not state fund. But for Rawlings' naivety as a young man then, I would have considered his acquiescence to Afrifa's execution to cowardice and parochialism.
Let us never allow ourselves to forget those who ushered him in .. Harley Deku Kotoka...he outmaneuvered them ... that is all but they cannot be absolved from the original treachery of overthrowing a legitimate government
That was the same coward general who urged the troops to lay down their arms and allow Rawlings’ 79 coup to succeed. Either way I don’t believe this story is the entire truth. Rawlings knew what was happening at the very least in the case of Afrifa but was hesitant to stop it. So what about the rest of the Generals???? What about the Judges??? It was all personal. AVM Yaw Boakye for instance wanted to fire him but was unfortunately stopped. This guy was a ‘pass the buck’ specialist. Those who weren’t born at the time or whose families weren’t forced to flee think he’s a saint. Had he not tainted his hands with the blood of so many, he would’ve been seen as a great man by many more people.

Can we all look into whether he knew about the plan to kill Kotoka... ? I have a very personal disdain for both rawlings and afrifa so I shed no tear... It was excessive and to say the truth at that time Mobutu was the darling of the west receiving a lot of support and he was periodically cooking up plots and executing soldiers and rebels to help 'neuter' the Public. That's why Rawlings did this....I suspect! He simply borrowed a leaf!; all the had to tell the west was that these were secret Nkrumah-ists! All in All; the original sin was betraying Nkrumah; this was a plot by the West...so the west always wins by playing on our greed and what Rawlings here( in old age) calls 'naivety'.
It's really sad, they made Ghanaians to believe that General Afrifa and General Achempong were the baddest people just because they are Ashantis. The sad news is that it was General Achempong who brought Dr Kwame Nkrumah's dead body back to Ghana and General Afrifa was not even part of the 1966 coup but he was invited to join the NLC two days after the coup yet they create a scenario as if General Afrifa was the leader of the overthrow of Dr Kwame Nkrumah so that they'll blame the Ashantis. May God Almighty have pity on Ghanaians. Kudos to the Ashantis.

The soldiers of 1966 coup need to be punished. In America and in Europe, the soldiers will face the same capital punishment for betraying their own country to the worst enemies the CIA and European leaders of Ghana and Africa. So, I now understand that Rawlings did the right thing. Why should small number of soldiers and their families enjoy life for selling out Ghana and millions of people, children and families suffer hardship. The soldiers were very wrong and did it for their own personal Selfish interests Gains and not for the benefit of the millions of people in Ghana. What goes round comes round. He executed Afrifa, so what? Afrifa was one of the Enemies and Traitors of Ghana who sold out our beautiful country to America CIA and European leaders to remove our best and great noble first President Osagefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
